(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Metabolism
Applications are invited to a 3-year post-doctoral position to study the role of fructose in people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in Professor William Alazawi’s Hepatology Research Group. The aims of the project are i) to understand fructose metabolism in primary hepatocytes, liver macrophages, stellate cells and adipose cells sampled simultaneously from patients undergoing bariatric surgery and ii) to determine the effect of fructose on human whole body and cellular metabolism and inflammation in a prospective cross-over study of high-fructose feeding in people with NAFLD. The cross-over study will be conducted in collaboration with Professor Kevin Whelan, Professor of Dietetics at Kings College London.

We are looking for a self-motivated and independent-thinking bioinformatician to undertake projects researching the genetic causes of endocrine disease. We are seeking a postdoctoral research assistant to join the group of Prof. Pedro R. Cutillas in the Centre for Genomics and Computational Biology, to work in a CRUK funded project in collaboration with Dr Helfrid Hochegger (University of Sussex). This project aims to use proteomics and phosphoproteomics techniques to provide insights into a new cell cycle control pathway with relevance for cancer therapy. The PDRA will perform proteomic and phosphoproteomic experiments and will analyze the data using computational methods for inferring signaling pathway activation from phosphoproteomics data developed in the Cutillas lab (Hijazi, M., et al (2020). The successful candidate will seek to develop the chemistry for iterative chain extension of polyethylene glycols (PEGs), purifying the growing polymers by organic solvent nano-filtration. This involves growing the polymers on a soluble hub molecule, to which two or more growing polymers are attached. The Associate will synthesise hub molecules through repeated coupling, deprotections reactions and membrane separations on 1-10 g scale.
