(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology – Weiss Lab

We invite applications for a post-doctoral position, funded by the NIH and Helmsley Charitable Trust, focusing on cryo-EM studies of how insulin analogs bind to the insulin receptor. Analogs include ultra-stable and glucose-responsive insulin variants of clinical interest. The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) has an EM Core with 200 kEV Glacios cryo-EM system and shared access to a 300 kEV Titan Krios, located at Purdue University as part of a regional consortium. The post-doctoral fellow will be part of a multidisciplinary team including synthetic peptide chemists and cell biologists engaged in insulin research with translational application to the improved treatment of diabetes mellitus. A PhD in structural biology or computation protein chemistry is required. 1. Analysis of coronary artery plaque, myocardium and heart valves with software based techniques. This will include establishing a cardiac imaging research registry with retrospective and prospective data collection of patients who have undergone cardiac CTA for coronary disease and valvular heart disease.
2. Assessment of perturbations in atherosclerosis, myocardial perfusion, skeletal muscle perfusion and energetics in patients with malignancy with focus on prostate cancer and pancreatic cancer. The research studies will integrate CT, MR and molecular PET imaging approaches along with biomarker discovery and metabolomics.

This is a NIH-funded position to study the molecular mechanism and physiological function of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling in the context of diabetes and obesity research. The newly formed Adolescent Behavioral Health Research Program at the Indiana University School of Medicine is currently seeking applications from highly motivated, team-oriented candidates for a research postdoctoral fellowship in neuroimaging. The full-time position spread over 2-3 years will focus on honing expertise and research acumen in neuroimaging risky decisions in youth at particularly high risk for the development of substance use disorders and risky sexual behaviors. Candidates should have an interest in applying functional and structural neuroimaging techniques to various aspects of pediatric behavioral health. The fellow will actively participate in data analysis, and dissemination of findings (manuscripts, presentations) from multiple funded laboratory studies. Additional opportunities exist to contribute to other clinical studies that could benefit from the addition of neuroimaging. The fellow will receive mentorship from faculty investigators toward the development of an independent program of research. Training will be provided in project design, data analysis, child and adolescent behavioral health concepts, grant writing, and research ethics. Fellows may have the opportunity to gain clinical hours toward licensure through the delivery of clinic- and telehealth-based assessment and treatment services.
