The position is research-only and classified as Level B Research Fellow, (equivalent to a tenure track Assistant Professor position in North America). This position is for an applied economist in the area of health economics or labour economics, with the successful candidate expected to demonstrate strong applied (empirical) econometric skills. The position is being offered on a continuing (tenure-track) basis contingent upon research funding. Confirmation of continuing status (granting of tenure) is to occur within five years of initial appointment.

This Research Fellow will be expected to work closely with A/Prof Diarmuid Crowley and Dr Johannes Nordström (University of Bath), on the Australian Research Council (ARC) funded research program on Topology in Seven Dimensions through its Discovery Project scheme. While the research program is guided by a set of research questions, there will be considerable scope for this Research Fellow to develop their own ideas within a broader research agenda.

Working collaboratively with a team of leading academics, researchers and students, the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will conduct research in support of an NIH Project on “Risk and resilience: Evaluating the multigenerational effect of a psychosocial maternal depression intervention against COVID-19-related stressors” along with developing their own research career. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is expected to contribute to the overall research environment in the Department of Economics at the University of Melbourne. Applications are sought from individuals with backgrounds and interests in applied microeconomics, health economics, development economics, mental health, and child development.

This is an opportunity to join our talented health economics team and work on high impact projects on the Economics of Genomic Medicine. The post(s) will provide an exciting opportunity to specialise in health economic evaluation and preference-elicitation methodologies in the context of genomics and precision medicine, and to inform national health policy working alongside Australian Genomics.

We are seeking a research assistant / research fellow to join our group to work on variety of projects that include preparing health technology assessments. The work program will involve evaluation of new health technologies including research projects from Federal and/or State Governments and health technology assessment (HTA) panels. There will be some scope for undertaking additional complementary research. Examples of other projects could include economic evaluation alongside clinical studies and registries in areas such as paediatrics, global health, genomics, neonatal intensive care, orthopaedic surgery and cancer, systematic review, meta-analysis or model-based evaluations of interventions targeting infectious diseases.

The Control and Signal Processing (CSP) research group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering comprises many internationally recognised researchers, including Fellows of learned Academies and the IEEE.  The CSP group seeks to appoint a postdoctoral research fellow to work on a multidisciplinary project on navigation and localisation in autonomous robots. This project is funded by the Australian government via an AUSMURI grant. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original theoretical and computer-based research on this theme, and then help to implement the resulting algorithms on a robotic testbed. It is anticipated that there will be opportunities to visit and collaborate with partner institutions in Boston, USA and in Australia.

The Animal Neuroimaging Research Fellow will work closely with the MNC scientific director, other Program Grant investigators and key collaborators to collect and analyse animal (mouse) neuroimaging data obtained as part of the Program Grant initiative. The incumbent will be expected to contribute scientific knowledge and expertise, establish PhD scholarships in this area, and to actively engage in the wider scientific community through conference presentations and peer reviewed publications.

The Ngarrngga Project Postdoctoral Fellowship is an opportunity to support a signature initiative of the University of Melbourne which aims to empower educators to teach Australian students about the depth and wealth of First Nations peoples’ histories and contributions to Australia.  This is a three-year postdoctoral Fellowship for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidate with excellent records and evidence of outstanding potential as an academic researcher and leader.

The Research Fellow in Global Influenza Dynamics will undertake an integrated program of research in the mathematical sciences to study the global circulation of influenza viruses, with the aim to understand the emergence and impact of different strains in time and space. The role of antigenic drift, multi-strain dynamics, immune development and cross-protection will be considered and their potential roles in shaping global influenza dynamics will be investigated.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will assist with supporting research initiatives within the Melbourne Centre for Behaviour Change within the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences.

The successful applicant will need excellent skills in epidemiology; a large and critical part of the position is appraising existing studies, selecting the best studies to parameterize effect sizes (e.g. what is the rate ratio of asthma incidence versus asthma severity for varying severity of mould in the house). You will need to enjoy conceptualizing causal networks and have the ability to posit plausible effect sizes (and their uncertainty) for many moving parts in a simulation model – even when the evidence is not perfect. 

The Education research fellow will report to and work with the Deputy Head of the Department of Paediatrics to develop a strategic approach to Health Professional Education (HPE) research on the Melbourne Children’s Campus. They will support other staff members to engage in education research and enable a more cohesive approach to the HPE research on Campus.

This Research Fellow will be expected to work closely with Dr. Jack Hall, on the Australian Research Council (ARC) funded research program on derived categories and algebraic stacks through its Future Fellowship scheme. While the research program is guided by a set of research questions, there will be considerable scope for this Research Fellow to develop their own ideas within a broader research agenda.

The successful applicant will work on a project funded by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning of Victoria (DELWP), intended to study current and future Metocean climate of Port Phillip Bay (PPB) and surrounding maritime areas. This exciting multidisciplinary research aims at validating the models and simulating wave climate in PPB, with the purpose of its statistical descriptions, and exploring connections of the Metocean climate to sediment transport, biogeochemistry and other processes in the Bay.

A research fellow with neuroimaging expertise is sought to contribute to the research capacity of the Melbourne Brain Centre at Department of Medicine (Royal Melbourne Hospital) on stroke neuroimaging studies in conjunction with the Department of Radiology at the University of Melbourne. The role will perform independent imaging analysis with assistance and supervision from senior imaging scientists including perfusion MRI, diffusion weighted imaging and functional MRI and QSM on MRI brain imaging of stroke patients.
