Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in computational biophysics
The division of Biophysics is located at Science for Life Laboratory, where the team develops some of the world’s most used tools for modelling biological systems with particular applications to membrane proteins and techniques for drug design. As part of a pilot project within the EuroHPC infrastructure we seek a postdoctoral scholar to work on porting and optimizing the molecular dynamics simulation code GROMACS for new computer architectures based on RISC-V. The duties involve algorithms development and programming both for accelerators and new traditional CPU-architectures, as well as parallelization and optimization of algorithms such as FFTs to enable large-scale simulations e.g. of membrane proteins. The work will include collaboration and conference travel, in particular in Europe.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in applied sensor and control systems
Do you have a background within mechatronic, biomedical, mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering profiles and research interests in mechatronic real-time systems, this could be a position for you. You will lead the design of a real-time hybrid-mock circulation loop that allows for interaction of an artificial heart with a computational model of the cardiovascular system. You will also adopt the computational model to simulate a representative cohort of patients with heart failure. The artificial heart shall be integrated with the hybrid mock loop for testing and improving its bi-ventricular control algorithm. You are also expected to publish in scientific journals in an independent way. You will also support the coordination of the research group and supervision of students.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Machine learning for Brain-Computer Interfaces
We seek to create the body-centric operating system (BOS), a cross-platform and modular software toolkit for developing body computing applications. BOS employs sensors and actuators in and on humans and computing platforms outside of human bodies. It facilitates the development tasks of application domain experts in medical sciences, smart health, and social sciences, allowing them to focus on application goals rather than low-level system issues. Our goal is to advance sciences related to the study of human bodies using information technologies. We will exploit wearable technologies such as smartwatches and fitness trackers, implanted devices including muscle stimulators, and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) to detect, analyze, and transmit information concerning body signals to provide immediate biofeedback to the person.

Industrial robots usually operate within a “safety cage” to ensure that workers are not harmed by a robot in operation. We also need the same type of security, which is simple and explainable, for networks. Novel mechanisms that can be embedded in the network through hardware-accelerated programmable networks or kernel extensions are the enabling technology for this type of security at the network level. However, current security architectures are not built for this.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in surface molecular spectroscopy of ion specific effects
The aim of the project is to obtain systematic molecular evidence of the interactions of selected ions with model aqueous interfaces of biophysical, geophysical, and electrochemical relevance. A particular effort will be made to understand the properties of surface hydrated protons (Nat Commun 11, 493, 2020). The experimental results will play a key role in endorsing, disproving, or extending emerging new theories on ion-specific effects, which understanding is considered in physical chemistry to be “as important in the scheme of things as Mendel’s work to genetics”. [Chem. Rev. 2012,112, 2286]. The surface molecular information will be obtained using mainly the non-linear surface-sensitive technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS or VSFG), currently available in our state of the art facilities. The project will involve collaboration with different research partners both in Sweden and abroad. The candidate will also be expected to participate in the collaborative writing of high-impact papers and project deliverables.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Engineer within development of motion-based driving simulator
Subjective assessments of driving dynamics of road vehicles are usually performed with physical vehicles that are evaluated on a test track. These tests are often time and resource consuming, costly, weather dependent and can also pose safety risks. By using a model-based vehicle dynamics development where virtual vehicle models can be evaluated in motion-based driving simulators, the need for physical tests with prototype vehicles can be significantly reduced. At the same time, factors such as weather conditions can be controlled and it is possible to test more scenarios in less time in a safe environment. The aim of this project is to develop a motion-based driving simulator and objectively evaluate its ability to recreate realistic vehicle dynamic motion perceptions, with the overall goal of improving the efficiency and quality in vehicle dynamics development.

Energisystemet är i förändring, och behovet av elektricitet och andra miljövänliga energiformer kommer att öka i Sverige och i resten av Europa. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Robust Learning of Probabilistic Deep Dynamic Models
The goal of this project is to develop new principles and methods for dynamical systems modeling, based on neural networks. Deep neural networks can help to model complex probability distributions (e. g., variational autoencoders, generative adversarial models) that are explicit in nature, allowing us to compute the likelihood of data as well as sample distributions efficiently. The use of explicit distributions will also allow us to exploit Bayesian learning principles. Such dynamical systems can provide efficient detection / estimation / processing of the underlying signal of interest. In addition, the processing and learning will be robust to noise. To learn robust low-dimensional structures from dynamic data, we will consider deep networks that most discriminate between dynamic models. Information-theoretic measures and concepts borrowed from causal inference will help us further to improve such dynamic models. Principles and methods developed in this project will be advantageous for several applications. Examples include time-series of patient data that can help to predict infections, autonomous vehicle video data that can be used to forecast the intention of neighboring vehicles, and sports video data that can be analyzed to determine player location and action. In addition, we will explore additional applications in collaboration with other researchers at KTH and industry.

Driven by the environment concern and sustainable requirement, electric vehicles (EVs) have attracted global attention as they provide more environmentally friendly transportation. However, the large-scale utilization of EVs will greatly increase the electricity consumption in the grid. If charging of EVs are not managed, it will pose significant impact on grid and require expensive grid reinforcement.
