This postdoctoral position would focus on studying the properties of different Graphical Modellings (such as GANS, VAEs, and Diffusion Models) within the context of health information fusion for disease onset prediction that build upon our laboratory’s past and ongoing work. As the team lead for this exciting project, you will have the opportunity to work with a group of sensing, clinical, and social researchers to investigate graphical modelling for healthcare decision support.

You will be responsible for the multi-modal longitudinal data analysis and the creation of sparse models that can be mapped to known standards of functioning ability. More concretely, as Post-doctoral researcher, you will be responsible for researching methods of digital twining for patients in chronic conditions for studying digital socio-psychological-biomarkers applicable in rehabilitation and daily life monitoring in SCI and elderly populations. With the goal of subsequent implementation of preventive treatment in different comorbidities. e.g., pressure injuries, infections, cardiovascular disease and sleep disorders.
Moreover, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to support the development of new machine learning lectures in the field of healthcare.

This collaborative project aims to produce and evaluate potential nutritional and health benefits in meat substitutes. It is planned as a nucleus for a bigger initiative on this interdisciplinary topic.

The project objectives are two-fold: (i) to produce nutritious hybrid meat substitutes from diverse plant-based raw materials and based on nutritional needs and (ii) to quantify nutritional and health impacts of hybrid meat substitutes in vitro (human cellular systems) in a broader scope, and to link these in vitro results to targeted in vivo analyses.

The whole research is strongly aligned with Novel Protein Flagship initiative of the ETH World Food System Center and existing collaborations with several international partners, such as the Singapore ETH Centre SEC food lab.

The primary responsibility of the Postdoctoral researcher is to lead the research agenda outlined in their proposal within the two-year fellowship. The fellow is expected to provide a short annual report of the progress of their research project to Design++ (in the respective 12th and 22nd month of employment). As a fellow, you are also expected to actively participate and support the planning of industry exchanges to promote knowledge transfer in the AEC industry. Other obligations such as teaching, defined by the fellow’s hosting professors should also be fulfilled. 

Together with other Design++ affiliated researchers and staff, you are expected to join and support scientific exchanges, social events and participate in other Design++ activities such as workshops, summer/winter schools, conferences, etc. 

Within the module, you will work on the development of a Building Information Modelling extension that integrates workflows for existing building-scale circularity assessment methods into a BIM environment (using IFC standards, integrated in Revit).

This extension will be the design evaluation tool for the `Circular Economy Potential’ (CEP) model, a framework to estimate recovery reuse rates based on a building’s configurational characteristics (e.g. how spaces are connected, how walls are assembled, how services are laid out). This framework combines existing assessment methods for design goals related to reuse and recovery (e.g. design for disassembly, building adaptation, maintainability). The CEP evaluation tool is intended to be used by built environment professionals that want to assess the reuse and recovery potentials of buildings and building designs.

You are expected to conduct research toward a net-zero economy, with a focus on strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, or policy in the context of carbon technologies and carbon markets. Your work is scientifically rigorous and at the same time relevant to industry and policymakers. Your empirical work could focus on energy or heavy industry but could also be sector-overarching if it relates to relevant mitigation pathways such as carbon dioxide removal (CDR). An integral part of your work consists of advising PhD and master students. By supporting some of the group’s diverse teaching activities, you are directly contributing to SusTec’s innovative approach to sustainability and helping bridge research and learning. Further, you will have the opportunity to contribute to shaping the group’s strategy, involve yourself in funding proposals and gain experience in leading research projects and teams.

The candidate will hold one of three senior positions, contributing actively to the research and educational development as well as the organization of the Chair, including:

• Active participation in research activities of the Chair, including support for the acquisition of new research projects, as well the development of an individual research trajectory
• Contribution to teaching the core courses of the Chair (Bachelor and Master), with an emphasis on the relation between theory and practice
• Participation in the organizational and administrative tasks of the Chair
• Support in the culture of the Chair, through involvement in reading groups, mentoring of doctoral candidates, the organization of workshops, etc

Creating realistic computational models of biological neural networks is among the most difficult challenges of neuroscience. However, such models could be extremely useful both in uderstanding how the brain processes and stores information, and also for reducing the vast parameter space of experimental efforts.

At LBB, we have the technology to build well-defined, in vitro networks of living neurons, and interact with them using microelectrode arrays. This provides us with a large amount of highly reproducible data that can be used to validate computational models.

• Development of theoretical concepts for tools leveraging digital technologies for circular construction, facilitating circular processes along the value chain (identification and categorization of reusable materials, design with reused elements, etc.) in the construction sector
• Exploration of implementation possibilities for automated workflows and digital technologies in new and existing construction projects
• Use immersive technologies to enhance construction processes and training
• Active participation in research activities, including publishing scientific papers and presenting findings at conferences and workshops
• Supervision of Master, and/or Bachelor students, as well as teaching

This postdoctoral position would focus on studying shape parametrization, learning gait optimization functions for mechanism design and using different machine learning embeddings (such as GANS, VAEs, and Diffusion Models) for developing a new full pipeline in design.

As a postdoc in this role, you will be at the forefront of quantum science and quantum technologies. Your responsibilities will include setting up laser systems for coherent Rydberg state manipulation, designing optical and electronic systems for precise control, and calibrating the dynamical process with the appearence of Rydberg interactions. Scientific objectives include searching for optimal Rybderg pair interactions for facilitating exchange dynamics, identifying experimental parameters for establishing realiable quantum interfaces, and demonstrating quantum optical links between remote atom-array-based processors. 

We are looking for a highly-motivated researcher who is interested in working on the intersection between Chemistry and Physics in a small interdisciplinary team. The position will require independence, perseverance, and the willingness to acquaint yourself with new topics and methods.

• Compilation of existing, large data sets across Europe
• Identification of forest resistance and resilience to deposition and climate extremes
• Linking tree level (dendrometer and sapflow data) with forest level (eddy covariance fluxes) functioning for 20+ forest sites in Europe using different approaches
