Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Fellow – Department of Psychology
A postdoctoral position is available in the Dilks Lab in the Department of Psychology at Emory University. This position is for an NIH-funded research projects concerned with understanding the neural mechanisms involved in our critical ability to recognize places, faces, and objects, from childhood to adulthood. The postdoc may be interested in development only, adult only, or both. The techniques that are currently used in the lab include psychophysics, eye tracking, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in typical children, adults, and individuals with developmental disorders (i.e., Williams syndrome), as well as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in typical adults. We are seeking highly qualified individuals with a recent Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Science, Math) and shared interests in the core research area. Experience with fMRI is highly desirable, but not required; experience with other techniques such as TMS is also welcome. Proficiency in programming is necessary (e.g., Matlab or Python).

The Postdoctoral Fellow/Scientist will work in the field of disease diagnosis, prognosisand management using novel computerized image analysis tools on a range of clinical imagesincluding radiographic and pathological images and the associated clinical outcome and demographics. Diseases areas of investigation will include a variety of cancer types including prostate, breast, lung, brain, rectal, head and neck, oral, skin, bladder and blood-based cancers, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and ophthalmology. Research projects will involve dealing with large scale data sets and developing algorithms and computing technologies to process, extract features and analyze these digitized histology images using machine learning and deep learning methods. The postdoc/scientist will possess expertise in programming languages used to develop and implement machine learning and deep learning based algorithms and interfaces towards image analysis especially in medicine involving diverse datasets including pathology, radiology images, high throughput generic data as well as medical information.

The department of Neurology is looking for a highly-motivated and well-trained post-doctoral trainee who has recently completed a PhD in Neuroscience or Immunology. The position is funded via an NIH R01 grant which will investigate the role of signaling pathways (ERK) occurring within neurons and microglia in the context of aging, neurodegeneration and APOE genetic risk.
