We are seeking a highly motivated postdoc to work on disease modeling and therapeutics using human induced pluripotent stem cells. A doctoral degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics or other relevant fields is required. Our research focuses on using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to model central nervous system (CNS) development and disease. Specifically, by differentiating and genetically manipulating iPSCs with cutting edge genome editing tools such as CRISPR-mediated gene targeting, we are trying to dissect the developmental pathways and the corresponding pathogenesis in the glial lineage. My long-term goal is to identify therapeutic targets for the treatment of CNS injury and neurodegenerative diseases.

A full-time employment opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Earth and Environment.  This position will be conducting hydrogeological studies in the Florida Everglades in the laboratory of Dr. René Price (https://environment.fiu.edu/facilities-research-groups/research-groups/price-lab).  The successful candidate will work with Dr. Price in a number of research projects including: the National Science Foundation-funded Florida Coastal Everglades-Long Term Ecological Research (FCE-LTER) project, and South Florida Water Management District and Environmental Protection Agency projects related to Everglades restoration.  The candidate will be expected to use modern statistical techniques to quantitatively analyze long-term data of water levels and water chemistry to discern the impacts of sea level rise, climate change and restoration efforts on the hydrological conditions of the Everglades, and to summarize these data and analyses in papers for publication in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.  The candidate will be expected to collect new data and visit existing field stations in the Everglades on about a quarterly basis via truck, powerboat and/or airboat.  Boating skills are not necessary but would be a plus.  The candidate will also analyze water samples in a laboratory for major ions using an Ion Chromatograph, for alkalinity using an autotitrator and for the stable isotopes of oxygen and hydrogen using a Los Gatos liquid water analyzer.  The candidate would be expected to prepare a manuscript suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.  A Ph.D. in hydrogeology or related discipline is required.  The candidate must have strong quantitative, verbal and written communication skills and a valid driver’s license. The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University is currently seeking a full-time, non-tenure, Postdoctoral Associate position within the Department of Immunology and Nanomedicine. Research in the laboratory focuses on identifying molecular mechanisms regulating HIV latency in the CNS and lung with a goal of eradicating viral reservoirs in these target organs. The successful candidate will work on Project iCREATE (investigating Career & Research Experience Access Through Evidence), a newly funded NIH project that implements and tests innovative interventions; as well as investigating the effect of high-impact practices on students’ career goals, career strategies, and key student career intent and action outcomes. We are developing a multi-channel charged fusion product diagnostic based on Silicon as well as Diamond surface barrier detectors with good (~ 1ms) time  and energy resolution. The successful candidate is expected to regularly travel to MAST-U and serve as the liaison between FIU and MAST-U to support the installation and commissioning of the new instrument. The post-doctoral associate will be leading the data acquisition effort during MAST-U operation, play a leading role in carrying out our research program together with our local collaborators, supervise FIU students who are visiting MAST-U and have the opportunity to present new results in publications and conferences. The Center for Children and Families at Florida International University (FIU) is recruiting a full-time, Post-doctoral Research Associate in the ADHD Research Group for two-year appointments with the possibility of extending to three years (or longer as a research assistant professor). The Infant Development Lab (PI: Lorraine Bahrick; infantlab.fiu.edu) in the Department of Psychology at Florida International University invites applications for a 2-3 year NIH-funded postdoc in infant/child perceptual/cognitive/social development to start as soon as possible or by January 2023. We seek an applicant with strong technical, methodological, and statistical skills with an interest in early development. The post-doc will work with the P.I., Dr. Lorraine Bahrick, and her lab team, to coordinate and participate in 2 NIH-funded research projects. One is a multisite project assessing individual differences in attention and intersensory processing and relations with social and language outcomes. Findings are designed to serve as a basis for identifying typical developmental trajectories with implications for identifying atypical trajectories. The project will result in a large aggregate database generated by and shared across 13 research labs via Databrary. The other is a longitudinal study assessing attention and intersensory processing as predictors of language, social, and school readiness outcomes across 3 months through 6 years of age. The current project involves a supportive multi-disciplinary team with substantial expertise in clinical and developmental psychology, public health, quantitative methods and bioinformatics, and epigenetics. The CCF is one of six University-Designated Preeminent Programs and currently has 44 affiliated faculty associates and more than 100 trainees in masters, doctoral, and professional programs who study child and adolescent mental health. The CCF currently has $64.5m of research funding mostly NIH and IES, and has extensive relationships with Miami-Dade Public Schools, the fourth largest school district in the U.S. The CCF faculty have a strong record of funded research (currently nearly 50 funded grants).  Opportunities may exist for additional collaboration and for grant writing and transition into a permanent faculty position.

Neuroinflammation and Alzheimer’s disease: A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated candidates with background in cellular and molecular biology, neuroscience, microglia biology, or Alzheimer’s disease animal models to investigate the role of Translocator Protein 18kDA (TSPO) in the neuroinflammation associated with Alzheimer’s disease. TSPO, previously named peripheral benzodiazepine receptor, is a glial stress response protein that has been validated as a biomarker of neuroinflammation and is widely used in preclinical and clinical studies. Our laboratory has a long history of studying TSPO as a biomarker of neuroinflammation and we have recently discovered that TSPO interacts with NADPH Oxidase-2 in microglia. We are examining the molecular, cellular, and functional aspects of this interaction in Alzheimer’s disease animal models.

An opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Adel Nefzi at the Florida International University, Port Saint Lucie, Florida. The projects will involve medicinal chemistry, development of structure activity relationships and assessment of activity in a range of assays. Candidates should have a Ph.D. with less than two years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrated experience in synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry with emphasis on peptide chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, and an ability to work independently. A background in medicinal or biological chemistry and drug discovery with experience of parallel synthesis and purification methods is required. Some experience in molecular modeling and/or protein-inhibitor visualization is a plus. The incumbent must be able to synthesize, purify, crystallize, optically resolve, identify, characterize and analyze new compounds (HRMS, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, HPLC, optical rotation) and search the chemical literature under the supervision of senior staff”.

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in Dr. Cristina Palacios’ Lab at Florida International University. The postdoc will participate in a diverse array of research pursuits mainly within the MetA-Bone Trial (http://metabone.fiu.edu), an NIH funded study that seeks to determine the effects of a prebiotic fiber on bone mass in children. These include project related activities, manuscript preparation, data analysis, collaborating on other ongoing projects, and grant writing. The postdoc will be mentored directly by Dr. Palacios and will have the opportunity to collaborate with others within the Dietetics and Nutrition Department and the Stempel College at FIU. Dr. Palacios has over 20 years of experience in designing, implementing and evaluating nutrition clinical trials to test various nutritional interventions in infants, children, and pregnant women. Central to her program of research is the use of technology and nutritional supplements in body composition.
