31 Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Two postdoctoral researchers will be hired as part of this project for a period of 1,5 years. One postdoctoral researcher (postdoc on Russia) will focus on the study of the evolution of Russian narratives of IL through the prism of the regionalization of IL, whereas another postdoctoral researcher (postdoc on China) will carry out a similar theoretical inquiry with respect to China. The project will be anchored at the Faculty’s Centre for European and Comparative Legal Studies (CECS) within the research pillar of ‘Challenges to International Legal Order and Global Governance’.

We have a number of promising research projects presently on offer to postdoctoral researchers. These include characterizing novel binding mechanisms of transcription factors, investigating the role of acidic IDPs in the extracellular matrix, or deconstructing the role of disorder for cytokine receptor signaling. The candidate(s) will have an influence on the exact directions of the projects, which will approached by combining methods in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology.

Applicants should have pursued a PhD degree in Psychology, Management, or a related field. It is desired that applicants have already gained experiences in one of the following research areas: human resource management, staffing, recruitment, and topics of diversity in this context. Candidates with strong research interests in these areas and methodological interests and skills are encouraged to apply. Specifically, it is advantageous if applicants have gained experiences in setting up online experiments, in analyzing data spanning several thousands of participants, and in multi-level analyses. It is expected that applicants have publication experience in internationally recognized scientific journals, and that the chosen candidate will contribute with collaboration skills to the interdisciplinary research team. High proficiency in spoken and written English is a requirement. It is not a requirement to speak Danish or German, but – given the task of working with Danish and German job ad data – an advantage to have some proficiency in Danish or German.

The Natural Language Processing Section provides a strong, international and diverse environment for research within core as well as emerging topics in natural language processing, natural language understanding, computational linguistics and multi-modal language processing. It is housed within the main Science Campus, which is centrally located in Copenhagen. The section came into effect on 1 January 2021 as a spin-off from the Machine Learning section, to which it still maintains close ties. The group is part of the Center for Models of Life (https://nbi.ku.dk/english/research/biocomplexity/cmol/) in the Biocomplexity section at the Niels Bohr Institute. We conduct research on the science of complex phenomena in physics and biology. We also has close collaborations with researchers in the biology department in University of Copenhagen. The postdoc also has a chance of interacting with master and PhD students to develop supervision and teaching experiences.

We are looking for an outstanding and passionate scientist who has a strong background in human pluripotent stem cell biology. This post-doctoral project aims at understanding how changes in lipid metabolism associated with genetic risk factors for Parkinson’s Disease, can lead to the deposition of toxic protein aggregates in patients’ neuronal cells. Your task will involve the isolation and characterization of protein and lipids from patients’ iPSC-derived neuronal cells. The stem cells from the healthy controls and patients with Parkinson’s Disease are available and banked in our laboratory.

Your research project must cover the early translational stages T₀ (Disease modelling, Omics studies, Basic Research) -T₁ (Biomarker discovery, Target development, Preclinical development) and should bridge a basic biomedical research environment and a clinical research environment, making the research project interdisciplinary in its nature. 

We are looking for individuals interested in exploring alpha cell biology. As a postdoctoral researcher you will participate in a project where we will investigate kinase signaling in alpha cells. The aim of the project is to integrate the mechanisms that regulate glucagon secretion. As part of the project, you will directly work with the generation of viral constructs and use live cell FRET imaging to understand paracrine signaling in alpha cells. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the maintenance of several colonies of genetically modified mice and design and perform in vivo experiments to follow up on observations made in isolated islets.

Our group works in the broad area of proteomics, genomics, and cell signaling. In the envisioned projects, we aim to use quantitative proteomics to further uncover the proteome-wide scope, dynamics, and enzymatic regulation of lysine acetylation and ubiquitylation. We are also interested in combining CRISPR-based genome editing with NGS-based approaches (i.e. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq) and cell biological approaches to uncover new regulatory pathways and decipher underlying mechanisms.

The position will be in the group of Associate Professor Rasmus Heller (RH). RHs group works on using population genetic methods to infer evolutionary processes in wildlife species, including how evolutionary processes interact with geography, climate and humans. Current focal research directions include speciation genomics, the genomic landscape of population divergence and introgression, and conservation genomics. The research group consists of two PhD. students and four post docs. In addition, the hosting group has a strong national and international network of collaborators.

Most cells in our body contain antenna-like structures on their surface called primary cilia, which are important for regulating cell-cell communication and thereby the development and function of our organs. Defects in cilia can lead to severe human diseases called ciliopathies, which often affect the kidneys. The aim of this project is to investigate how two pH-regulatory ion transporters, NBCn1 and NHE1, are targeted to the primary cilium of mammalian kidney cells, and how they regulate pH within the cilium. NBCn1 and NHE1 regulate essential processes in our cells and organs and their dysfunction is linked to diseases like cancer and hypertension, but it is not clear how they get localized to and function at cilia. Likewise, intraciliary pH and its possible effect on ciliary function are unknown. The results will provide new insight into fundamental cellular trafficking mechanisms, the regulation and subcellular functions of NBCn1 and NHE1, and into how pH may affect cilia-mediated signaling.

1) Identify and quantify the molecular characteristics, functional properties and nutritional parameters of legume grass protein fractions.2) Establish the applicability of legume grass protein fractions as food ingredient to produce healthy and sustainable food products.3) Further development of product prototypes with legume grass protein ingredients.The positions will be part of the research group Food Design and Sustainability performing research within innovative food science and technology solutions integrated with research-based sustainability assessment delivering business and policy-decision support for regenerative circular food system designs.The postdoc’s duties will include research within the project “Development of high quality grass-protein foods” as well as teaching. The post may also include performance of other duties.

The postdoc will be mainly looking into environmental engagement and activism and how framing and activism in digital spaces trigger environmental behavioral change among media users. The postdoc conducts long-term fieldwork in Indonesia (including social media usage and research) and collaborates closely with the project’s PI, Associate Professor Birgit Bräuchler, on designing and coordinating field research, organising project workshops in Copenhagen, Indonesia and Singapore, writing conference papers and project publications.

The project will address transmission of chromatin organization trough DNA replication and how this is linked to genome/epigenome stability, including the interplay with replication timing. The interplay of histone dynamics and chromatin replication with epigenome and genome stability remain poorly understood. Our recent discovery that new histones control repair pathway choice and the identification histone recycling mechanisms are new entry points to these questions (Becker et al., 2021 Nature; Nakamura et al., 2019 Nat Cell Biol; Petryk et al., 2018 Science, Saredi et al., 2016 Nature). You will take an multi-disciplinary approach to address this interplay, using our custom functional genomics tools (ChOR-seq, Repli-ATAC, SCAR-seq), replication fork proteomics (NCC / iPOND), advanced imaging technologies, and genome-editing. You will be part of a highly collaborative group and we expect that you will join other ongoing projects and contribute actively to develop new technologies and supervise students.

As our new postdoc, your job would be to generate a new, immune-competent blood-brain barrier organoid model to investigate the immune responses elicited by ICAM-1 binding Plasmodium falciparum infected red blood cells and how this impacts blood-brain barrier dysfunction, peripheral immune cell migration, and the immunological responses these interactions generate. Your tasks would include, malaria parasite cell culture, mammalian (human) cell culture, flow cytometry, and confocal microscopy. Supervision of BSc/MSc students where applicable.

The research field is microbiology. Published expertise with Gram-negative bacteria is required. Experience with cloning, DNA/RNA extraction, 16S microbiome analysis, quorum sensing, crystal violet staining, ultracentrifugation gradients, RNA-seq, qRT-PCR, western blotting, flow cytometry, fluorescence- and electron microscopy, and fluorescence reporter assays is required. The candidate must be fluent in R, including performing differential expression analysis, read mapping, genome analysis, alignments, phylogeny, and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. Excellent written and spoken English is required.

The candidate must have obtained a PhD degree in epidemiology, psychology,public health, psychiatry or a related field, and must have experience with quantitative analyses of large data sets. Experience with register data management and analyses is an asset, but not a prerequisite. The candidate must be able to work independently under supervision. Collaborative skills and team spirit is in high regards. Strong English skills as well as scientific writing skills are necessary. For the right candidate, there will be ample possibilities to influence the project and develop new project ideas within the project frame.

The aim of this project is to investigate the spatio-genetic patterning in large bacterial colonies. To achieve this, you will do basic bacteriology (e.g., cell culturing and plasmid transformations) and use various imaging modalities (e.g., confocal scanning, time-lapse and light-sheet) and advanced image analysis. You will have the possibility to be involved in close collaborations with modelers and experimentalists within related fields and to partake in understanding bacterial growth, motility, and resistance in relation to understanding biofilm propagation. It will be expected that you have a drive for experimental work and an interest in bacterial ecology and/or evolution.

The project aims at developing imaging method to achieve multichannel super-resolution imaging with conventional fluorescence microscopy. Recently, we have achieved a breakthrough by developing the brightest full-organic fluorescent nanoparticles based on a molecular self-assembly approach, called: Small‐Molecule Ionic Isolation Lattices (SMILES)*. Besides their unsurpassed brightness, we also have the full control of the fluorescence emission color (from blue to near infrared) and fluorescence lifetime (from nanosecond to microsecond). In this project, we will extend the number of simultaneous detection channels and develop multiplex microscopy by combining the “normal” color channels with fluorescence lifetime channels imaging. We will use the developed multiplexed imaging method to tackle the key question about protein translation at the subcellular level.

TransEuroWorkS (Transforming European Work and Social Protection – A New Proactive Welfare State Fit for The Future World of Work) will provide novel, integrative understandings of how fundamental changes to the labour market and in a European context can be managed proactively through national and European Union (EU) level social protection policies. At the centre of this research are three structural labour market transformations, i.e., green transition and decarbonisation, technological change (automation and digitalization), and the internationalisation of the workforce (through intra-European mobility and immigration). The appointed post-doctoral researcher will have the opportunity to work on these key transformations and their socio-political and economic consequences with a special focus on non-standard workers and their access to social protection.

The postdoc position covers structural cell biology and will be based in the Plant Cellulose Synthesis research group in a highly cross-disciplinary team that includes the full range of computational structural biology, microscopy, molecular biology and biochemistry (> 20 people). This postdoc will prepare single cell cultures (protoplasts) derived from plant tissue of transgenic marker lines (A. thaliana and/or Nicotiana tabacum BY-2) and localize the CSC complex in vivo using correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM) through the group’s access to microscope facilities e.g. Center for Advanced Bioimaging (CAB) and Core Facility for Integrated Microscopy (CFIM) both located at the University of Copenhagen. A substantial part of the postdoc will be carried out at Biozentrum, University of Basel in the group of Prof. Benjamin Engel, which are international experts in preparing suitable cryo-frozen samples for cryo-electron microscopy/tomography (EM/ET) including novel focused ion beam (FIB) milling lift-out approaches.

You will take part in the design and execution of experiments and measurements in laboratories and in the field. Incubation experiments on the growth of phytoplankton and the impact on the carbonate system are both carried out in laboratories in Copenhagen and in field work, either at lab facilities on land or on board a research vessel. Field work is planned to coastal areas in Greenland in the summer 2023 and a cruise in the North Atlantic in 2024. Water samples from the field and incubation experiments in the lab will be analysed for carbonate components in the carbonate system, nutrient concentrations, trace metals, photosynthetic activity and environmental DNA.

GPCRs relay signals from the outside to the inside of the cell by coupling to G proteins and other intracellular mediators. GPCRs are the targets of around 30% of approved drugs and development of new and improved therapies is a major focus of academic groups and companies worldwide.Chemokines drive cell migration through interactions with chemokine receptors, thereby controlling the immune system, development and other functions. Chemokine receptors and other GPCRs are dynamic proteins and regulated by a number of cellular factors including membrane lipids. We have identified specific lipids with different functional effects on chemokine receptors. The project aims to characterize the molecular mechanisms of lipid regulation using a combination of structural and functional experiments in cells and reconstituted systems. Your tasks will include expression, purification and reconstitution of receptors and characterization of receptor structure, dynamics and function.
