Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Position: Quantum mechanical descriptors for pharmaceutical molecular property prediction
The applicant will investigate how to effectively incorporate quantum-mechanical properties into machine learning models to enrich the quality of molecular property predictions. The respective prediction goals can be so-called ADMET properties, i.e., absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity of drugs and other organic molecules. The work is situated in the following two domains: On the one hand, the work concentrates on the application of molecular and quantum mechanical methods for the exploration of 3D structures (conformers) and electronic properties of them (e.g. dipole moment and polarizability). The successful candidate will primarily contribute to the large EU research project Lux4QCI – Luxembourg Experimental Network for Quantum Communication Infrastructure). The project is part of the Digital Europe Program (DIGITAL) and aims to deliver the first experimental quantum communication infrastructure (QCI) network in Luxembourg. A distinctive feature is the by-design integration between the terrestrial and the satellite segment. Lux4QCI envisions making Luxembourg a QCI front-runner and a hub for secure key distribution across the EU. To achieve those goals, Lux4QCI will identify use cases of interest for application scenarios of quantum key-distribution (QKD)-enhanced secure communications. The intended QCI will be nationally deployed through multiple terrestrial optical fibres running hundreds of kilometers and interconnecting at least 5 points of presence. The network will rely on a hybrid configuration combining multiple QKD technologies over a range of multihop topologies (e.g. star, serial, and tree). The intended architecture contains an orchestrator collocated with a node. The orchestrator consists of a network manager with SDN/network-function virtualisation (NFV) algorithms for flow management/routing, a quantum key-distribution network (QKDN) controller, which performs routing control of key relay, and a QKDN manager, which monitors the status of the QKDN and assists the key management system (KMS) for key-management operations.

GNSS Reflectometry (GNSS-R) is an innovative remote sensing method exploiting signals of GNSS after reflection from the Earth’s surface. The postdoctoral project investigates spaceborne GNSS-R for soil moisture, sea ice classification and altimetry. In this context, the successful candidate will improve and develop new retrievals of Essential Climate Variables (ECV) and other valuable remotely sensed products from a constellation of Earth-observing nanosatellites. The successful candidate will develop algorithms that will allow us to better understand present day soil moisture variability for more accurately modelling the water cycle. In this project, the effects of variable soil moisture on theoretical ground reflections in both perfect conditions as well as under realistic noise will be simulated. The multi-constellation space-borne GNSS-R data will be used then to understand the sensitivity of the hydrological measurements to surface roughness, vegetation, and other parameters such as incidence angle. Additionally, reflected signals at grazing angle will be investigated for sea ice detection and classification. The post-doc researcher will be a member of the Geophysics Laboratory working on the development and implementation of innovative deep learning techniques for the space-borne GNSS-R studies. The Management Group within the Department of Economics and Management is looking for a Research Scientist in Innovation and Entrepreneurship who will conduct impactful research leading to publication in leading business and management journals, deliver strong teaching and student experience in business education and contribute to program development, and finally acquire external research funding through active engagement with Industry and funding agencies. An intermediate position between a postdoctoral fellowship and an assistant professorship, the Research Scientist offers more academic independence than a traditional postdoctoral position, while assuming some greater responsibilities.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Scientists in Finance
The goal of the Research Scientist is to contribute to our teaching offerings and to build up/maintain a bridge between academic excellence and industry relevance.
You will engage in the teaching activities of the department, both in Bachelor/Master programs and in life-long learning activities. You are expected to teach a broad range of finance topics with a specific focus on Asset Management, Financial institutions, or Data science. You will also contribute to the development of new programs that cater to the needs of the students and the financial industry in Luxembourg
You will be the content oriented link between the academic finance profession and the financial industry, financial regulators, and national and supranational institutions. You will boost scientific knowledge dissemination and diffusion related to academic research and teaching through organizing academia-meets-industry events, life-long learning activities, and social media. You can also conduct your own research in Asset Management and/or Sustainable Finance, and identify, apply for, and manage research funding.
