Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-Doctoral Clinical Genomic Scientist
The Undiagnosed and Rare Disease Clinic (URDC) was launched in January 2020. The URDC program combines the strengths of IU Health clinical care specialists and IU School of Medicine researchers. From the clinical side, specialists look through each patients’ records, review the list of symptoms, and evaluate each patient when they arrive at the clinic. From the research side, specialists can reevaluate the raw data from a patient’s whole exome sequencing test, which involves looking at exons, which are the pieces of an individual’s DNA that provide instructions for making proteins. Researchers may also suggest whole genome sequencing to get a better understanding of genetic changes that may lead to health problems. This program is focused mainly on pediatrics, but URDC patients may be any age, from newborns to those with adult-onset disorders, who have likely been seen by multiple providers and had extensive testing done, but still haven’t received conclusive results about their condition.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Pediatrics
A postdoctoral fellowship position is immediately available to study the molecular mechanisms that modulate cardiogenesis. The lab is interested in understating the gene regulatory networks that modulate the cell specification and differentiation that are responsible for the morphological patterning of the developing mammalian heart. We employ mouse model systems and are particularly interested in how basic Helix-loop-Helix transcription factors regulate heart formation and their roles in congenital heart diseases. Evaluating gene regulatory networks within myocardium, endocardium, epicardium, and the neural crest cells that compose the heart allows us to start unraveling how these diverse cell types coordinate with each other to define functional contraction, conduction, outflow tract, and chamber patency. The position offers a unique opportunity for a talented scientist to work in a dynamic and innovative environment. The lab is well funded and postdoctoral career development to independence is a primary goal of this position.
