Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate – Full Stack Developer
Funded by Cisco Systems, Heriot-Watt University is collaborating with SafetyNet Technologies Ltd. (SNTech) to develop a novel system for monitoring the health of the oceans and optimising fisheries to reduce their impact. The project involves a diverse array of disciplines: fisheries scientists, engineers, business and data scientists. The project now needs you – a full stack developer – to create an online infrastructure and front end to join all the dots. You will be embedded into a technology team within SafetyNet Technologies, whilst working with engineering and fisheries science researchers at Heriot-Watt University in a project that will culminate in a real-world deployment on fishing vessels in Orkney.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Solid-State Quantum Photonics
The Quantum Photonics Laboratory seeks a talented and highly motivated scientist to undertake research on quantum information communication technologies using III-V quantum dots as solid-state spin-photon interfaces. Significant goals include developing applications in quantum optics and quantum communication protocols using indistinguishable single photon sources at telecom wavelengths, investigating dephasing mechanisms and engineering extended coherence for spin-photon interfaces, generating entanglement between similar or disparate quantum systems.
Deadline : 09/27/2021
(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate/ Assistant in NanoSat engineering model comprising optoelectronic components
The successful candidate will work with the University research team and a number of space-sector industrial collaborators to create an engineering model of a quantum key distribution transmitter composed of optoelectronic components. A lab-based system is currently being constructed within the University to demonstrate the requirements
Deadline : 09/27/2021
(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Laser Development
The successful candidate will work on laser development research for the EPSRC (Part of the UK national research council) project EP/V01269X/1 “Ultra-short pulsed laser welding – an industrially-relevant manufacturing tool for bonding IR and visible optical materials “. This novel process allows for the direct welding of glass and crystals to metals removing the need for adhesive. This capability is extremely attractive in an enormous array of applications from aerospace to medical device manufacturing. This exciting new project aims to build on our expertise in the bonding of “standard” optics and allow for more exotic near infra-red materials. It therefore requires the focussed development of a 2 µm wavelength ultra-short-pulse laser-amplifier system to enable the materials processing research.
Deadline : 10/01/2021
(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Downstream Processing
IBioIC are seeking to appoint a full-time Senior Downstream Processing (DSP) Scientist (Research Associate) with the aim to increase the in-house expertise and capacity of the DSP team.
Deadline : 09/27/2021
(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow – Conversational Systems and Human-Robot Interaction
Heriot-Watt University is looking for an experienced Research Fellow to lead a body of work looking at trust and how it manifests in language and interaction. This work will be part of the UKRI Trustworthy Autonomous Systems Node on Trust, with collaborators the University of Manchester and Imperial College London, researching into how trust can form between robots and humans through interaction
Deadline : 09/17/2021
(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

About Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom – Official Website
Heriot-Watt University (Scottish Gaelic: Oilthigh Heriot-Watt) is a public research university based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was established in 1821 as the School of Arts of Edinburgh, the world’s first mechanics’ institute, and subsequently granted university status by royal charter in 1966. It is the eighth oldest higher education institute in UK. The name Heriot-Watt was taken from Scottish inventor James Watt and Scottish philanthropist and goldsmith George Heriot.
Known for its focus on science and engineering, it is one of the 39 old universities in the UK comprising the second cluster of elite universities after Oxbridge.
Heriot-Watt was established as the School of Arts of Edinburgh by Scottish businessman Leonard Horner on 16 October 1821. Having been inspired by Anderson’s College in Glasgow, Horner established the School to provide practical knowledge of science and technology to Edinburgh’s working men. The institution was initially of modest size, giving lectures two nights a week in rented rooms and boasting a small library of around 500 technical works. It was also oversubscribed, with admissions soon closing despite the cost of 15 shillings for a year’s access to lectures and the library.
The School was managed by a board of eighteen directors and primarily funded by sponsors from the middle and upper classes including Robert Stevenson and Walter Scott. It first became associated with the inventor and engineer James Watt in 1824, as a means of raising funds to secure permanent accommodation. Justifying the association, School Director Lord Cockburn said:
