(02) Postdoctoral Position
Postdoctoral position summary/title: The Early Childhood Behavior Laboratory (http://www.ecbl.fiu.edu) is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to help direct a recently funded R01 from NICHD to evaluate the efficacy of a brief remote parenting intervention to improve behavior and regulation in infants from high-risk families and prevent the need for later, more intensive treatment. Additionally, this position will provide the fellow with an opportunity to develop his or her independent program of research, including support and mentorship in submitting manuscripts for publication and federal grant applications for funding. Candidates with experience working with young children and with implementing behavioral parenting interventions are particularly encouraged to apply.

The primary objective of the Postdoctoral Associate will be to oversee the operations of the CREST-Center for Aquatic Chemistry and Environment (CAChE) organic analytical facility at the Biscayne bay Campus develop new analytical methods in the area of organic and inorganic mass spectrometry with specific emphasis on emerging contaminants and non-target analysis (NTA) and contribute to the training and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students in traditional and novel analytical techniques for environmental applications.

The position is part of an NSF-Funded collaborative project with Dr. Paul Fine’s lab at UC Berkeley and Dr. Kabir Peay’s lab at Stanford University. The research aims to understand the role of plant secondary chemistry and root microbiota on the patterns of abundance of Amazonian tree species. (05) Postdoctoral Position
Postdoctoral position summary/title: A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in Dr. Cristina Palacios’ Lab at Florida International University. The postdoc will participate in a diverse array of research pursuits mainly within the MetA-Bone Trial (http://metabone.fiu.edu), an NIH funded study that seeks to determine the effects of a prebiotic fiber on bone mass in children. These include project related activities, manuscript preparation, data analysis, collaborating on other ongoing projects, and grant writing. The postdoc will be mentored directly by Dr. Palacios and will have the opportunity to collaborate with others within the Dietetics and Nutrition Department and the Stempel College at FIU. Dr. Palacios has over 20 years of experience in designing, implementing and evaluating nutrition clinical trials to test various nutritional interventions in infants, children, and pregnant women. Central to her program of research is the use of technology and nutritional supplements in body composition.

(06) Postdoctoral Position
Postdoctoral position summary/title: A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Malone Disturbance Ecology Lab under supervision of Dr. Sparkle L. Malone at Florida International University. The postdoc will conduct research in the Florida Everglades to evaluate the development of low productivity zones in coastal ecosystems by studying the expansion and retraction of the Everglades white zone. This work builds on long-term eddy covariance study sites, which include 11 years of CO2 and 5 years of CH4 data in a freshwater marl prairie and 3 years of data from a mangrove scrub. The candidate will also collaborate on Florida Coastal Everglades Long-term Ecological Research projects. Candidates with a strong background in eddy covariance are encouraged to apply for this position.

(07) Postdoctoral Position
Postdoctoral position summary/title: Dr. Jason Mitchell, Associate Professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, is currently seeking to hire one post-doctoral research associate. The postdoctoral research associate will provide support on coordinating, managing and conducting highly specialized health disparities research, focusing on LGBTQ health. The postdoc will participate in a diverse array of research pursuits, including project related activities, manuscript preparation, data analysis and collaborating on ongoing projects and grant writing. The postdoc will be mentored directly by Dr. Mitchell and will have the opportunity to collaborate with others within the HPDP department and FIU Research Center in Minority Institutions. Dr. Mitchell has over 15 years of experience in designing, implementing and evaluating HIV/STI prevention projects with sexual minority male couples and men, and has established a cohort study with LGBTQ couples. Central to his program of research is the use of technology and relationship science to improve health outcomes for HIV/STI prevention, substance use, and other health domains areas of critical Public Health importance where stark disparities continue to exist among sexual and gender minority populations, including couples.

(08) Postdoctoral Position
Postdoctoral position summary/title: A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Tropical Root Ecology and Evolution (TREE) Lab of Dr. Oscar Valverde-Barrantes at Florida International University. The post doc will assist with various projects focused on the evolution and ecology of root systems of vascular plants in tropical ecosystems. These projects include a collaborative work focused on the description of fine root systems in tropical and subtropical plants, and their associated microbial communities. Moreover, the researcher will help to design, execute and analyze in situ and greenhouse experiments to determine how function of root systems with different morphologies may influence soil carbon dynamics. The researcher will work closely with a highly skilled, interdisciplinary team of ecologists encompassing multiple institutions across the globe. Projects of interest include the study of root dynamics in Amazonian tropical forests (Amazon Face Project), interactions between mycorrhizal and pathogen fungi in temperate forests (MycoPath Project) and the study of endophyte root communities in mangrove forests from South Florida and Central America (UCR-FIU partnership).

(10) Postdoctoral Position
Postdoctoral position summary/title: The Department of Humanities, Health and Society in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a doctoral training fellowship opportunity in community-based participatory research. The fellowship will provide training in grant writing and will allow for the development of writing and analysis skills.
