(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Post-doc computational fluid dynamic modelling from leaf to canopy

The project rationale is that a well-growing crop consumes so much CO2 that the low rate of CO2 diffusion in the surrounding layer of still air compared to the consumption rate of leaves can limit photosynthesis. Until now, air CO2 enrichment in the greenhouse has been the main solution to increase the CO2 available for photosynthesis. However, efforts to have CO2-neutral greenhouses in 2040 require an alternative approach. Increasing our knowledge on how forced air circulation within a plant canopy can maintain high and homogeneous CO2 levels near the plant will help improve photosynthesis and allow high yield with less supply of CO2. Your work will focus on using CFD modelling to find solutions that improve microclimate and positively influence plant growth and development. You will work closely with other PhD candidates and a post-doc who focuses on experimental approaches addressing the same questions, which will provide you with targeted high-quality data for model development and validation.

Deadline : 27 December 2023

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc Modelling Reactive Nitrogen

The Meteorology and Air Quality group of Wageningen University & Research in cooperation with the Centre of Environmental Quality within the National Institute for Public Health (RIVM) is looking for a Postdoc researcher to contribute to the assessment of reactive nitrogen deposition. As a Postdoc, you will be mainly working at RIVM to reduce uncertainties in the calculations of the deposition of reactive nitrogen. You will work with the Operationele Prioritaire Stoffen (OPS) model that is used in policy assessment. You will investigate the main uncertainties in the model and how additional information from other models or new measurements, like from satellites, may help to reduce these uncertainties. You will also advise on how the existing measurement network can be optimised or extended in a cost-effective way.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Water Risk Governance

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who wants to advance research on the governance of drinking water risks by helping answer the following questions: How can innovative governance arrangements be designed to address and mitigate increasing environmental, financial, operational, social and political risks around water services? How should risks and responsibilities be divided between state, market and civil society actors, and how could this division be evaluated? What is the role of the state in promoting safe and sustainable water services? Researching these questions will contribute to advancing concepts in water risk governance and practices in the governance of sustainability transformations. You will combine quantitative and qualitative research methods in advancing an understanding of the relationship between risk and institutional innovation in water governance at a time when more and more service providers face the risk of their taps running dry and progress towards the water SDG is becoming increasingly urgent. This will involve conducting surveys capturing the main environmental, operational and financial risks of water service providers as well as their core design principles.
