Eligible candidate may Apply as soon as possible.

(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Ecosystems

The project aims to develop theoretical and computational models of these ecosystems – in particular aiming to address the design and effects of synthetic biology-based interventions to mitigate the impacts of desertification caused by global warming.  The research will require a multi-scale approach to ecosystem organization with particular emphasis on understanding the impact of modified strains in both soil microbiome dynamics and vegetation cover patterns in space and time. The project will benefit from both ongoing designs of microcosm and mesocosm facilities at EMBL and massive available data sets from drylands. The latter include diverse kinds of information, from co-occurrence microbial networks to remote sensing maps. Modelling efforts should help to address the analysis of these experimental designs, the definition of microbiome-related warning signals and the scalability of the terraformation strategies.

Deadline : 28 November 2023

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Organic Chemistry

The Deo group in Heidelberg is seeking a post-doctoral fellow with a strong background in synthetic chemistry. We are a dynamic and interdisciplinary group, working at the interface of chemistry and biology, working on the development molecular tools tailored for biological imaging. More information on the group can be found here: https://www.embl.org/groups/deoThis full-time postdoctoral position is funded as part of the IMAGINE consortium (https://www.embl.org/abo /info/imagine/), aiming at develop imaging technologies for biology across scales. As part of this large collaborative and interdisciplinary project, our group focuses on the development of new molecular tools. The post-doctoral fellow will primarily synthesize and characterize new fluorophores, and is expected to work in close collaboration with other groups at EMBL to test and characterize them in microscopy assays.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctoral fellow

We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the principles of energy-driven chromatin organization through in situ structural biophysics. The new position is located at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany in the groups of Thomas Quail and Sebastian Eustermann. EMBL is Europe’s life sciences laboratory – an intergovernmental organisation with more than 110 independent research groups and service teams covering the spectrum of molecular biology. It operates across six sites in Heidelberg (headquarters), Barcelona, Cambridge, Grenoble, Hamburg and Rome. Our mission is to perform basic research in molecular biology; train scientists, students and visitors at all levels; offer vital services to scientists in the public and private sectors within the member states; develop new instruments and methods; and engage actively in technology transfer.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow – Integrative structural biology of sarcomeric cytoskeleton

EMBL Grenoble specializes in fundamental research in structural biology, and in developing state-of-the art instrumentation, methods and services. The site is located on the dynamic European Photon and Neutron science campus (EPN campus), together with other international and French research institutions. We are recruiting a highly motivated a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Scientist to join our team at EMBL Grenoble, interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying the architecture and assembly of muscle sarcomeres, particular Z-discs. We use a multidisciplinary approach to tackle complex biological problems by combining complementary structural biology techniques, computational modelling, and other biochemical and biophysical methods. The main focus of this position will be integrative structural studies of reconstituted assemblies.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow

The Pathogen Informatics and Modelling group at EMBL-EBI aims to develop innovative approaches to help apply the power of sequencing to controlling pathogen threats. We are interested both in producing methods, and generating biological insights by applying these methods to data from various sources. Biologically, we are primarily interested in understanding how pathogens transmit, both from the host and pathogen’s perspectives. Understanding this process better will help us design and implement more effective interventions (such as next generation vaccines) to interrupt this process. From a methodological perspective, current approaches are struggling to handle the speed and scale at which sequence data is now being generated. This limits our analysis power, the responsiveness of inference to new data, and ultimately our ambitions for the purposes for which genomes can be used. We also see that not all researchers have the same access to these methods – we aim to lower the barrier to entry and research ways to make methods useful for a range of different purposes (public health, medical microbiology, basic sciences).

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position to investigate the unique mechanics of nuclei in epithelial morphodynamics. Our goal is to understand how nuclear movements interact with tissue curvature during epithelial folding, addressing questions about the active contributions of nuclei to morphodynamics and their potential as mechanical actuators. This research takes a multidisciplinary approach, and involves an international collaboration with the Laboratory of Epithelial Morphognesis in Kobe, Japan. It’s a unique opportunity for physicists to apply their expertise to a challenging biological problem and uncover new physics in living systems.
