PhD position summary/title: PHD POSITION ON BIOMEDICAL OPTICS
In this project, we will develop a multi-color scanning laser ophthalmoscope (mcSLO)-based oximeter. The mcSLO will be a versatile research tool that provides different imaging wavelengths, and different implementations of light delivery and collection to and from the retina. For the image analysis, we will develop novel oximetry algorithms. We will test the system and algorithms on model eyes, where we control the controlled flow velocity and oxygen saturation of the blood. We will perform clinical pilot studies of patients and healthy volunteers, to show variations in retinal oxygenation.
Deadline : February 18, 2022

(05) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: PHD POSITION IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP
The PhD position is a full-time position for a period of four years. During these four years, you will follow PhD-level coursework (if needed), plan and conduct your PhD research, and teach.
The research ideas will be defined by the student together with the supervisory group, and should fit with the larger project that this position is a part of. The project involves coaching small business owners, and our role is to use the information those entrepreneurs provide in the process as data for academic research. The project allows us to have rich quantitative information about the hard and soft aspects of entrepreneurship in a setting that resembles a field experiment. Your role involves choosing some of those aspects, developing theory about them, testing that theory using the data, and writing papers about those efforts. For example, we already have published a paper about emotion regulation skills making entrepreneurs happy in their work and personal life

PhD position summary/title: PHD POSITION IN DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS
The Department of Mathematics of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam welcomes applications for a fully-funded, 4-year PhD position in Dynamical Systems. In this project you will work on computer-assisted proofs of periodic solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for fluid flows under the supervision of Jan Bouwe van den Berg. The field of dynamical systems is developing rapidly, and more and more we see that analysis needs to go hand in hand with computer-assistance to obtain proofs for interesting solutions, such as periodic and connecting orbits. In this project you will thus combine dynamical systems theory and partial differential equations with innovative computer-assisted proof techniques.

About The Vrije University Amsterdam, Netherlands –Official Website
The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is a public research university in Amsterdam, Netherlands, founded in 1880, and consistently ranks among the top 150 universities in the world by major ranking tables. The VU is one of two large, publicly funded research universities in the city, the other being the University of Amsterdam (UvA). The literal translation of the Dutch name Vrije Universiteit is “Free University”. “Free” refers to independence of the university from both the State and the Dutch Reformed Church. Both within and outside the university, the institution is commonly referred to as “the VU”. Although founded as a private institution, the VU has received government funding on a parity basis with public universities since 1970. The university is located on a compact urban campus in the southern Buitenveldert neighbourhood of Amsterdam and adjacent to the modern Zuidas business district.
In 2014, the VU had 23,656 registered students, most of whom were full-time students. That year, the university had 2,263 faculty members and researchers, and 1,410 administrative, clerical and technical employees, based on FTE units. The university’s annual endowment for 2014 was circa €480 million. About three quarters of this endowment is government funding; the remainder is made up of tuition fees, research grants, and private funding.
The official university seal is entitled The Virgin in the Garden. Personally chosen by Abraham Kuyper, the Reformed-Protestant leader and founder of the university, it depicts a virgin living in freedom in a garden while pointing towards God, referring to the Protestant Reformation in the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th century. In 1990, the university adopted the mythical griffin as its common emblem.
