08 Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Surrey, England

The Research Fellow will work with the R&D  team from Ceres Power, a leading developer of clean energy technology based on solid oxide cells for energy generation and hydrogen production, currently with over 600 employees. Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in catalysis for hydrogen and ammonia. The Research Fellow will be associated with a significant five-year research programme in hydrogen and alternative liquid fuels, and will be working with a number of UK academic and industry partners.  We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with solid research experience in catalysis including synthesis of solid-state inorganic catalysts, characterising catalytic activities, and testing the catalyst performances. We expect the candidates would be interested in working with hydrogen and ammonia. 

Applications are invited for an MRC-funded Research Fellow based in the herpesvirus research group run by Prof. Gill Elliott in the Section of Virology, School of Biosciences and Medicine, University of Surrey.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a comprehensive research programme into the biology of herpes simplex virus, with particular focus on the role of the virion host shutoff (vhs) protein in RNA metabolism during infection. The successful candidate will explore the localisation of mRNA transcripts targeted by vhs, and the downstream effect on the infected cell translatome and secretome.

We have recently invested heavily to recruit staff whose innovative work is having a large impact on international research agendas, as also evidenced by being ranked 10th in the UK in the most recent research assessment exercise (REF2021). Surrey Energy Economics Centre (SEEC) in the School of Economics has a long-standing tradition of energy economics research, and has gone through many phases often consistent with the changing energy landscape.

The Research Fellow’s role will be to undertake the majority of the experimental work (in collaboration with the University technical staff). This includes the use of vacuum equipment and VUV lamps to simulate the ageing effects of space on the polymeric components of the CFRP, and to carry out the subsequent analysis, including surface roughness, mechanical testing, and surface chemistry (XPS + ToF-SIMS, ATR-FTIR). The Research Fellow will also assist in reporting to the sponsor, and disseminate the results at conferences and in academic journals.

We are looking for applicants that demonstrate strong research and analytical skills, have excellent communication and enthusiasm for developing their own research ideas.  

Applicants should have a strong mathematical background and knowledge of how to reason about systems. This must be evidenced by high-quality research publications or artifacts in security, formal verification, distributed systems, programming languages, or computer architecture. Understanding of modern proof tools, including, but not exclusive to Isabelle/HOL, Coq, Lean, PVS, Dafny, and familiarity with model checkers and SMT solvers is highly desirable

The Cancer Care group in the School of Health Sciences is excited to be advertising for a Research Fellow to work on a project aimed at improving earlier diagnosis of breast cancer. The project is funded by Breast Cancer Now and will involve analysing a large dataset to explore inequalities in the early diagnosis of breast cancer.  

We are looking for a researcher with excellent project management and quantitative research skills, together with excellent verbal and written communication skills, who can work well independently, as well as within a team. The successful candidate will be required to conduct/ lead statistical analysis for this project, as well as liaise with patients, charities and other stakeholders to conduct the research and contribute to dissemination.
