(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow (KTP Associate) Formulation and process development scientist

This role is an exciting opportunity for candidates holding a PhD in Pharmaceutics or a related discipline. The candidate should have a strong understanding of pharmaceutical formulations and process development. Experience in characterisation of excipients, formulation of particulate systems, analytical method development, in-vitro cell line permeability assessment, manufacturing processes such as mixing and freeze drying, process design and optimisation would be an advantage.

The objective of this KTP project is to develop a formulation roadmap and integrated manufacturing process for the Zydis technology platform and to define how processing parameters influence the formulation of different drugs with poor bioavailability characteristics..

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Research Assistant

Applications are invited to join our growing multidisciplinary and collaborative translational epilepsy research group. We are looking to appoint an outstanding research scientist with expertise in in vivo and/or in vitro electrophysiology to work alongside Professor Gavin Woodhall (PI) on an MRC grant funded project investigating synaptic and network mechanisms underlying temporal lobe epilepsy. This cutting edge, translational research will aim to develop world-first epilepsy models and explore novel treatments. This approach directly addresses the unmet clinical need for rapid intervention in these epilepsies to improve long-term patient outcomes.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate: Indirect Land Use Change

The Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute leads the national Supergen Bioenergy Impact Hub and an opportunity has arisen for a researcher to support sustainable bioenergy deployment. The successful candidate will carry out analysis of the global evidence for indirect land-use change to formulate projections on the potential impact and management options for sustainable bioenergy development in the U.K.

You will work with a team of national researchers to gather and analyse data related to land-use change globally, identifying appropriate metrics and reporting relevant trends. You will provide definitive reports on land use trends and develop insights into recommendations and guidance for policy and sustainable supply chain management. You will work with industrial and policy partners to develop and disseminate findings and recommendations in a range of outputs.

The School of Biosciences is seeking to appoint two Teaching Fellows on a fixed term basis to provide maternity cover to contribute to teaching and assessment in Biosciences and Biomedical Science at Aston University.  

You may be in the early stages of their academic career but must be able to demonstrate an established background in Biosciences or Biomedical Science appropriate for their stage. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability to deliver teaching in Biosciences or Biomedical Science, either in a Higher Education or professional clinical setting. Experience of teaching in microbiology or clinical sciences would be advantageous.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow

You are invited for a highly motivated senior postdoctoral research scientist to join the vibrant, supportive team of Professor Roslyn Bill at Aston University, working with Dr Kevin Frankowski of the University of North Carolina. This is a full-time, fixed-term position with a proposed start date of 1st February 2024 for 25 months. 

The focus of your work will be to contribute to, develop and lead research activities as part of the collaborative project between Aston University and the University of North Carolina. Working within the School of Biosciences at Aston, you will focus on designing and testing direct aquaporin-4 binders in a new approach for the treatment of stroke and CNS injuries.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate

You are invited to join the vibrant, supportive team of Professor Roslyn Bill at Aston University as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. You will also work with Dr Mootaz Salman at the University of Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position with a proposed start date of 1st February 2024 for 12 months that will be based primarily in Oxford. The focus of your work will be to build a controlled microenvironment in the form of a gliovascular interface on a chip in order to make detailed measurements of glymphatic regulation.

The project will be funded by Professor Bill and Dr Salman’s BBSRC Pioneer Award. You will investigate how the subcellular relocalization of the water channel aquaporin 4, dynamically regulates glymphatic clearance. When glymphatic clearance is impaired, toxic waste products can accumulate within brain tissue leading to conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
