PhD position summary/title: PhD position in Neuropharmacology

The Neuropharmacology research group at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences seeks applications for an open PhD position. The Neuropharmacology group, led by Prof. Linda Simmler, investigates the mode of action of psychoactive substances pre-clinically. The research focus is on allucinogenic compounds that are under evaluation for clinical use in psychiatric disorders. We aim to understand their effects on neuronal circuits and synapses, and link to behavior and disease models. The successful candidate will investigate acute psilocybin effects in mice, using behavioral testing, immunohistochemistry and techniques requiring stereotactic surgeries.

(05) PhD Degree – Fully Funded

PhD position summary/title: PhD position in circuits neuroscience

The focus of our research is to understand mechanisms that gate plasticity to reshape cortical circuits through experience and learning, while maintaining normal brain function. To investigate plasticity in cortical circuits, we use methods including two-photon imaging, widefield imaging, electrophysiology, optogenetics in targeted cortical neurons and pathways, and behavioral training of mice. Based on these experiments, we aim to develop strategies for targeted interventions that enhance plasticity.

(06) PhD Degree – Fully Funded

PhD position summary/title: PhD Student Position to study the Virology and the Immunology of Polyomavirus Infections

BK polyomavirus infect >90% of the world’s population typically during childhood and without specific symptoms or known illness. In immunocompromised persons, however, BK polyomavirus causes three clinical manifestations: Allograft nephropathy in 1%-15% after kidney transplantation; hemorrhagic cystitis in 5%-25% after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation; and urothelial cancer in 0.1% – 1% as a late complication after either of the former two. There are no effective antiviral drugs or vaccines, and overcoming the diseases depends on virus-specific immune recovery. Research of the TCV group is focused on tackling these unmet clinical needs. You will be part of an interdisciplinary research team dedicated to closing these gaps.
