PhD position summary/title: PhD Student Position in Modelling of Photoelectrochemical Devices
The hired candidate will perform state-of-the-art first-principles many-body calculations/simulations to model and design a new generation of photoelectrochemical devices in the framework of a joint research project with experimental colleagues from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) and University of Salzburg.
This project requires technical expertise in materials simulations and an understanding of surface science and catalysis, as well as creative thinking and programming. The main tasks are modelling of solid structures and solid-liquid interfaces, to perform static and dynamic first-principles calculations for an atomistic descriptions and characterization, and to simulate chemical reactions with static calculations and forefront enhanced sampling methods as well as further development of computational approaches used

PhD position summary/title: PhD Student Position: Understanding Water Splitting Catalysts
We are interested in informed materials design on different levels:
- Catalyst design. We cover a wide range of noble metal-free catalysts, from single atom catalysts to coordination polymers. The new PhD Student position will include the development of low-cost heterogeneous (photo-)electrocatalysts. We offer a wide range of synthetic facilities (e.g. ceramic, hydrothermal and microwave-assisted methods), and in house analytical techniques with rapid access.
- Formation and catalytic mechanisms. Understanding the widely unknown (trans)formation mechanisms of many catalytic materials, such as oxo clusters or diverse nanomaterials, is crucial to enhance their performance. To gain new insight into the reaction pathways of catalysts you will have access to manifold spectroscopic and other methods (AFM-Raman, fluorescence spectroscopy, EPR, XPS…), as well as to our in-house X-ray absorption spectroscopy instrument, which will be complemented with in situ/operando XAS experiments at synchrotron facilities.

PhD position summary/title: PhD position
A doctoral position is available in the NumRisk project of the university research focus (URSP) AdaBD. The project is carried out under the co-leadership and supervision of Christian Ruff, Karin Kucian and Silvia Brem at various institutes and clinics of the University of Zurich.
The project investigates the brain mechanisms of behavioral problems in people with dyscalculia, a congenital disorder of learning mathematical and numerical skills. With a combination of behavioral testing, computational modeling, and measurements of brain activity, we want to find out to what extent basic perceptual processes, the corresponding neuronal calculations and brain activity in the parietal cortex are altered in dyscalculia and how this affects risk-taking behavior in everyday decisions.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral candidate Subject area: Legal registration of artificial intelligence (AI)
The Center for Information Technology, Society and Law (ITSL) at the University of Zurich is looking for a doctoral candidate with immediate effect or by appointment. The workload is generally 50%, but can be reduced or increased by agreement.
The ITSL is the competence center of the University of Zurich for interdisciplinary research on the interaction of information technology, society and law. At the ITSL, doctoral students, post-docs and international guest researchers are investigating under the direction of Prof. Dr. Florent Thouvenin and Prof. Dr. Rolf H. Weber, how technical and social developments challenge today’s legal system and how it needs to evolve in order to meet these challenges. An ongoing project is the legal registration of artificial intelligence (AI).
