The Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University invites applications for a two year postdoctoral position with possible extension to a third year subject to availability of funding. The expected start date is August 16, 2024. This opening is in computational topology and/or harmonic analysis, aligning with research interests of Prof. Eric Weber. Topics of interest include persistent homology, simplicial complexes, time-frequency analysis, and sparse decompositions.  

This opening is in Control Theory and Quantum Physics aligning with research interests of Prof. Domenico D’Alessandro. This includes geometric optimal control with applications to quantum systems, dynamical analysis of quantum systems, quantum information with emphasis with quantum error correction, Lie algebraic and representation theory methods in quantum information. The position has a 2-1 teaching load which can be decreased based on availability of funds.

This opening is in Discrete Mathematics aligning with research interests of Prof. Steve Butler, Prof. Shira Zerbib, or Prof. Bernard Lidicky. This includes combinatorial matrix theory, graph and hypergraph theory, spectral graph theory, discrete geometry, topological combinatorics, and extremal combinatorics. The position has a 2-1 teaching load and a requirement to be involved with mentoring undergraduate students in research through the Iowa State Math Research Teams (ISMaRT, https://sites.google.com/view/ismart-iastate).  

The TrAC Postdoctoral Fellowship Program provides a unique opportunity to Postdoctoral researchers working with TrAC affiliated faculty members at Iowa State in AI+X areas, i.e., interdisciplinary research that integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) with other high-impact domain areas. The TrAC Postdoc fellows will have the opportunity to (i) collaborate broadly with TrAC researchers as well as develop independent research ideas; (ii) build a strong curriculum development, teaching and mentoring track record; and (iii) network with a wide range of industry partners interested in AI+X. This opening is in scientific machine learning and/or numerical PDEs, aligning with research interests of Prof. Hailiang Liu. Topics of interest include data-driven modeling, optimal control with deep neural networks, optimization, numerical analysis, and numerical PDEs.

The Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University invites applications for one or more Research Training Group Postdoctoral Scholar positions, with an expected start date of August 16th, 2024. These positions are supported by an NSF Research Training Group grant focused on discrete mathematics, https://sites.google.com/view/rtgisu/. These three-year appointments have duties that include conducting research, participating in the activities of the discrete mathematics group, such as taking an active part in seminars and research related events of the group, teaching load of one course per semester, and leading a research group with graduate and undergraduate students annually. This position is subject to availability of funding.  

The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with Professor Jake Simon and join a dynamic group of researchers studying how planets and planetary systems are born. More specifically, the researcher will work on numerical and/or theoretical studies in the general area of planet formation and will also have the opportunity to collaborate directly with observers to test specific aspects of planet formation theory. There may also be opportunities to co-advise graduate and/or undergraduate students.  

The Postdoc will work with a multi-institution team on hydrogen gas sensing and hydrogen safety.

The successful candidate will use existing databases and models to advance our understanding of agroecosystem carbon, nitrogen, and water dynamics. In addition, the candidate will work with other personnel to collect key field data that are important for model validation and calibration. We have particular focus on predicting how interactions between environment and management affect greenhouse gas emissions and we seek to develop new management strategies that minimize trade-offs between productivity and environmental performance.

The Office of Biotechnology in the Office of the Vice President for Research in collaboration with the US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service are seeking outstanding applicants for a postdoctoral position in the Genome Informatics Facility working on joint projects with the National Animal Disease Center and will be supervised by Andrew Severin (at ISU) and Crystal Loving (at USDA). The position is expected to be filled as soon as possible with a start date of January 8th, 2024. The project involves interrogating genomes, performing gene expression analysis, and/or protein analysis of bacterial and animal derived samples to identify modes of action of animal treatment or colonization with food-borne pathogens. There will be several projects involving single-cell and single-nuclei RNA-Seq data analysis.  

This postdoctoral position will complete a project focused on the study of protein-protein interactions localized in plant Golgi. This includes: growing and maintaining transgenic plants, and preparation of the protoplasts from their leaves and roots. Performing various transfections of prepared protoplasts with a set of different plasmids available to this project, and performing live imaging of the proteins using a super-resolution confocal microscope for FLIM/FRET studies using protoplasts transfected and leaves. In addition, it will be required to perform protein extraction from transfected protoplasts or leaves and perform the immunoprecipitation assays and run SDS-PAGE and Western analyses of proteins.
