PhD position summary/title: 1 PhD position at the Faculty of Law (3 or 4 years)

The project is interdisciplinary, connecting information and computer science, learning sciences, social sciences and law. The project will develop new knowledge about a trustworthy use of AI in the educational sector where transparent and fair AI systems must be based on trust and high degree of acceptance in society. The research contribution from the Faculty of Law will be within EU/EEA rules on privacy and data protection and the relation between data protection and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is a requirement that the person appointed has experience in these legal areas. The position is a fixed-term contract. The term of employment for the position is 3 years, which can be extended to 4 years if the applicant is qualified to teach in compulsory courses at the Master’s program at the Faculty of Law. Starting date is 15. January 2024 at the latest, or earlier by agreement.

PhD position summary/title: PhD-position at Centre for Elderly and Nursing Home Medicine (SEFAS)

The position is funded by a grant from the the Research Council of Norway “Virtual darkness and digital phenotyping in specialized and municipal dementia care: The DARK.DEM randomized controlled trial”. In this project, we will explore if virtual darkness, that is, light without blue wavelengths, can improve treatment of behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, such as agitation, anxiety, depression and psychosis. We will conduct a randomized controlled trial at NKS Olaviken gerontopsychiatric hospital, Askøy, in which patients with agitation and dementia will be allocated to either standard treatment or add-on treatment with virtual darkness. We will also utilize data from wearable sensors to evaluate behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia. Read more about the project here. DARK.DEM is part of an innovative, active and multidisciplinary research group in elderly medicine at SEFAS, which have several ongoing quantitative and qualitative studies in which sensor data are used to monitor symptoms, intervention effects and disease course in elderly persons and people with dementia. Professor Bettina Husebø is the head of SEFAS, the centre has approximately 15 employees, and a large network both nationally (Neuro-Sys-Med, Haraldsplass Deaconess Hospital, Bergen municipality, Ageing and Health, VID specialized university) and internationally (Kings College, Yale and Harvard University). SEFAS is part Alrek Health Cluster in Årstadveien.

The University Museum in Bergen has research, collection management and communication as its core tasks. The museum covers several disciplines: Anthropology, Archaeology, Art and Cultural history, Botany, Geology and Zoology. The museum is also responsible for the archaeological excavations in accordance to regulations of the Cultural Heritage Act, as well as for the Arboretum and two botanical gardens.
