Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Materials Chemistry

The aim of the overall project has two facets: to develop new, fast, and energy-efficient sorbents for carbon dioxide capture from air and to develop materials that can be used in water purification. The funding comes from the MistraTerraClean foundation and a company partner. The postdoctoral fellow will focus on synthesizing and characterizing aminated materials for CO2 capture and materials suitible for the removal of for example Zn2+ from water. We envisage studies which, in addition to the studies of the synthesis of the materials also studies of the uptake and release of CO2 and metal ions.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in Marine Molecular Ecotoxicology (temporary employment)

The position will be associated with the project PROMISE (Improved Ecological Risk Assessment of contaminated sediments in Sweden), funded by the Swedish Environmental Agency. The aim is to improve our current methods for ecological risk assessment (ERA) of contaminated sediments. The main objective is to conduct a site-specific ecological risk assessment of the Oskarshamn harbor, on the SE Baltic Sea. The harbor sediment contains high amounts of various industrial pollutants. The inner harbor has recently been remediated through dredging. The outer harbor, however, still poses a risk of spreading contaminants (dioxins and metals) to the Baltic Sea. In the project we are running laboratory studies in order to compare and evaluate which ecotoxicological endpoints are most relevant for conducting an ERA.

Deadline : 31 August 2022.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in Rangeland vegetation under pressure

East African protected areas face many pressures with encroaching human prescence, changes in park management, invasive species and climatic changes. To-date the pressure on protected areas has focused on animal populations. This project will utilise a unique collated herbaceous species dataset for an East African rangeland within the Serengeti ecosystem, Tanzania, including areas of different protection status. The aim of the project is to determine species-level responses to climatic and human land management drivers. Modelling approaches will be applied to draw out individual species distribution predictions to these drivers.

Deadline : 4 July 2022

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in the rEUsilience Project

The position as a postdoc is connected to the comparative social policy research carried out at SOFI (www.sofi.su.se/english/research/three-research-units/socpol-social-policy) and part of the project rEUsilience: Risks, Resources and Inequalities: Increasing Resilience in European Families, funded by Horizon Europe. Taken as a whole, the project’s research aim is to identify the level of risk and socio-economic insecurity faced by families across Europe and the capacity of different family types to absorb socio-economic shocks by adjusting behaviours and structural arrangements. The postdoc position provides an excellent opportunity to perform country-comparative research to critically examine the role of policy. The work takes place in an outstanding international consortium with partners in 6 countries (Belgium, Spain, Croatia, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom), and will comprise both pan-European analyses of existing data (on policy and practice) and new focus group research.

Deadline : 31 July 2022.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Psychology

The position will be associated with a research project designated to investigate the neurodevelopmental dynamic of threat learning and regulation and how these processes are influenced by individual differences in exposure to early-life stress. The project involves using a variety of methods including neuroimaging, behavioral, and psychophysiological methods. The project is led by Associate Professor Armita Golkar and will be conducted in close collaboration with researchers at the Research platform CHANGE at Leiden University in the Netherlands, where the data is collected. The research is supported by the Swedish Research Council and Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (Wallenberg Academy Fellow grant).

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position on brain evolution and animal behaviour

A postdoctoral research position focused on brain morphology evolution and behaviour is available in Niclas Kolm’s research group in the Department of Zoology at Stockholm University. The aim of the project is to investigate the evolutionary associations between brain morphology variation and behavioural variation at the individual level. To do this, the project will use three already established guppy (Poecilia reticulata) artificial selection lines with i) different brain size, ii) different shoaling behaviour and iii) different telencephalon size. Additional selection experiments are also possible depending on interest. Substantial infrastructures in the Department of Zoology allows multiple assays of cognitive abilities, mate choice, predator interactions, collective motion, physiology and brain and body morphology (the project has access to x-ray microscopy via a Zeiss versa 520) within the project.

(15) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in numerical ice-sheet modelling

Sea-level rise caused by global warming is a serious threat to society and vital economic infrastructures concentrated along the coastlines. Melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet is currently the single largest contributor to observed global sea-level rise, and its contribution is expected to increase. The northern sector of the Greenland Ice Sheet holds over one meter of global sea level; if its outlets glaciers lose their buttressing ice tongues they can begin to flow as rapidly as their more southerly counterparts of the Ice Sheet, and discharge ice formerly grounded on land to the ocean where it contributes to accelerating sea-level rise. This two-year post-doctoral project is aimed to carry out a detailed investigation of the development of the North Greenland Ice Sheet and its contribution to global sea-level rise until year 2300 under a range of IPCC’s climate scenarios. The goal is to provide lower and upper limits of the potential contribution by the North Greenland Ice Sheet to global sea-level rise, considering different ice–ocean–atmosphere feedback mechanisms, using a state-of-the-art numerical ice-sheet and sea-level system model.

Deadline : 1 July 2022.
