PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Structural Biology by NMR 100%
The project studies the fundamental mechanism of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) signaling by applying and developing unique cutting-edge NMR technology. Further biophysical methods (cryo-EM, ITC) are integrated in the workflow. A key part of this project will be the development of novel paramagnetic NMR methods and effective isotope labeling methods.
The research will dive into the atomic level to investigate the conformational dynamics of GPCRs. Such in-depth information will explain the functions of natural ligands or synthetic drugs in GPCR signaling and pharmacology. Based on the functional understanding, opportunities for new drug design will emerge.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student position – Infection Biology
The Department of Biomedicine is a joint effort between the University of Basel and the University Hospitals Basel. It unites basic and clinical scientists to advance our understanding of health and disease and to develop pioneering therapies benefiting the lives of patients in areas of unmet need.
With more than 70 research groups and 800 employees, the Department of Biomedicine is the largest department at the University. We are located in the heart of Basel at 6 different locations. Be part of our future.
The Boeck lab at the Department of Biomedicine is seeking a highly motivated and driven PhD student with a strong interest in infection biology to tackle pulmonary Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections using genomic and large-scale wet lab technologies.
We are a young and dynamic team, dedicated to understand the mechanisms underlying antibiotic treatment failure of life-threatening lung infections. We have developed strategies to assess bacterial behaviour and drug susceptibility at single-cell resolution and unmet scale (e.g., assessing several 100,000 drug combinations). By combining bacterial phenotyping with CRISPR-based mutagenesis or phenogenomic analyses, we strive to reveal mechanisms driving antibiotic action and promoting bacterial clearance in patients.

PhD position summary/title: Ph.D. POSITION IN NUMERICAL ANALYSIS 100%
Space-time adaptive methods are essential for the efficient simulation of wave phenomena in the presence of complex geometry or material interfaces. Locally refined finite element meshes, however, hamper any explicit time-marching scheme as the global time-step will be dictated by a few tiny elements. By taking smaller steps in smaller and larger steps in larger elements, local time-stepping (LTS) methods overcome that severe bottleneck without sacrificing the inherent explicitness or parallelism.
