The tasks within the project include the computation of higher order QCD corrections to collider observabales and operator anomalous dimensions as well as phenomenology applications with an eye on the Large Hadron Collider LHC and the forth-coming Electron Ion Collider EIC.

In the period from as soon as possible until 31.12.2025, research associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate’s own academic work.

In the period from 01.01.2026 for the remaining time duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

This research associate position is for the project “Large-scale entanglement in a cryogenic ytterbium tweezer array“ in the working group of Prof. Peter Schauss (http://ultracold.phys.virginia.edu). The goal is to develop a next-generation tweezer platform for ytterbium atoms in a cryogenic environment to suppress losses, increase coherence times and improve fidelity of entanglement operations for future neutral atom quantum computers. There may be the opportunity for a research stay of a few months at the University of Virginia to learn experimental techniques, to gain international experience and to explore Virginia (virginia.org).

We are looking for a candidate with a keen interest in these topics and the high redshift Universe.

The prospective candidate will work on questions related to the formation of supermassive black holes in the context of one of the largest James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) treasury programs (COSMOS-3D). As part of a larger collaboration, they will be involved in all aspects of the project, from data reduction to final analysis.

You intend to pursue a PhD project in Social and Cultural Anthropology that deals with the plurality of normative orders, for example in the field of legal anthropology, political anthropology or the anthropology of religion. The general focus of the Signal Processing (SP) research group is on developing novel methods for processing speech and audio signals, with applications in speech communication devices such as hearing aids, mobile telephony, and voice-controlled assistants. Modern machine learning and generative AI methods, such as diffusion models, have revolutionized the performance of these devices, for instance in acoustically challenging environments.

Excellent knowledge in statistical signal processing and machine learning is required, along with good programming skills in Python, experience with modern machine learning libraries, and experience with speech processing and audio processing. Fluent English, both spoken and written, and good communication skills are mandatory. Knowledge of German is helpful; for non-native German speakers, we expect the willingness to learn German.

The ideal candidate will have a research focus on comparative politics or comparative political economy in the context of the ongoing crises and challenges in political decision-making, especially gender, diversity, or climate issues. A track record in these fields is therefore expected, alongside proven skills and competencies in the fields of quantitative data analysis, including causal identification methods and social data science (e.g., machine learning /AI or natural language processing).

With this research focus, the candidate will contribute to the chair’s work on gender and climate politics. Involvement in the further development of the research program in the Cluster of Excellence CliCCS (Climate, Earth, Environment) and the research area “Grounds, Norms, Decisions”, especially the doctoral program in “Collective Decision-Making” is also encouraged.

With regard to teaching, the candidate should strengthen the areas of comparative politics and data science and contribute to faculty and university-wide initiatives to strengthen data and digital literacy, data analytics, and data science.

A PhD in a relevant field or a strong record in scientific work equivalent to a PhD degree (having passed the oral defence at least).

• a PhD in oceanography, geoscience, environmental sciences, or a related field is required for this position
• compelling understanding of ocean biogeochemical dynamics, in particular regarding its role in Earth’s climate
• experience with ocean carbon cycle models, skill in model development
• strong programming skills in Fortran, post-processing and visualization software (e.g., python, CDO), as well as experience in handling large data sets
• strong communication and organizational skills and an ability to effectively communicate results of scientific research to project members and international colleagues

A university Master of Science degree in calculating the noise transfer in gravitational wave detectors, calculating noise spectral densities, and interferometer input-output formalisms.

Successful candidates are expected to pursue a PhD in Physics at the University of Hamburg. The regular duration of a PhD at the Department of Physics is three years.
