Dr. Alex P. Miller, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, is currently seeking applications from highly motivated candidates for a research postdoctoral fellowship. The full-time research position will primarily focus on the study of genetic and neurobiological influences on the progression of substance use, substance use disorders, and related traits and disorders across the lifespan with a particular focus on the developmental span extending from childhood through young adulthood. Ongoing projects in Dr. Miller’s lab include (1) utilizing integrative data analysis to harmonize phenotypic data across a number of large, genetically-informed longitudinal study samples with the goal of characterizing the longitudinal interplay between impulsive personality traits and alcohol involvement from childhood to middle adulthood and their relation to genetic and neurobiological sources of vulnerability; (2) evaluating genetic influences on substance use and related traits and disorders in a pediatric and young adult sample of participants from the Indiana Biobank; and (3) continued collaborations in large-scale genomic analyses as part of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium Substance Use Disorders Working Group and related research with other faculty in the Departments of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Biostatistics and Health Data Science, and Medical and Molecular Genetics.
Candidates with interests spanning statistical genetics, neuroimaging data analysis and developmental neuroscience, and the study of etiological heterogeneity in the developmental progression of substance use and substance use disorders are encouraged to apply. The fellow will actively participate in the execution, data analysis, and dissemination of findings (manuscripts, presentations) from NIH studies and receive mentorship from faculty investigators toward the development of an independent program of research. (09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Inner-Ear Biology

We are looking for a motivated and creative post-doctoral fellow to join our group at the Indiana School of Medicine. Our NIH funded lab studies pathophysiology of the inner ear using multiple genetic mouse models and a novel human stem cell-derived 3D inner ear organoid model. We study genetically-mediated hair cell and neuronal degeneration in these model system to determine cellular networks that lead to cell death and to establish molecules that can prevent degeneration.
Experimental approaches being used in the lab include inner ear drug delivery, CRISPR/Cas9, single cell RNA-seq, cell culture with live cell imaging, immunohistochemistry with confocal microscopy, Ca2+ imaging, coimmunoprecipitation and proteomics.

(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Stem Biology (Otolaryngology Dept)

A post-doctoral fellow position is available immediately to join the Hashino Stem Cell Research Lab at Indiana University School of Medicine, and study normal and pathological development of the human inner ear using stem cell-derived organoids as a model system (Koehler et al., Nature Biotechnology 2017; Nie et al., Nature Communications 2022; Moore et al., Cell Stem Cell 2023). We recently developed a human cochlear organoid system that recapitulates many aspects of hair cell and spiral ganglion neuron development. Using this novel model system, we aim to elucidate the mechanisms underlying hair cell differentiation and identify means to promote hair cell regeneration in the human cochlea. We are also developing a human cochlea–hindbrain assembloid system to study auditory neural circuity development. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in biomedical sciences. The starting date is flexible.

A post-doctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Makram Obeid. The postdoctoral fellow will test research hypotheses in rodent seizure models and cell cultures, primarily utilizing molecular and cell biology techniques. The Obeid lab investigates the mechanisms of seizure emergence and their effects on cognitive and behavioral neurodevelopment in rodent seizure models. Our primary goal is to identify molecular targets for novel treatment strategies. The laboratory employs a variety of molecular techniques, longterm continuous EEG monitoring in rodents, and neurobehavioral testing panels. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to independently plan and conduct experiments under the guidance of the PI, using molecular and cellular biology techniques that include, but are not limited to, cell culture, western blotting, PCR, gene knockdown and overexpression, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. Laboratory work will involve animal handling and the potential participation in neurobehavioral testing. Work may also involve electrode implantation surgery and EEG recording in rodents (initially semi-independently under the PI’s supervision). The postdoctoral fellow is expected to collect and analyze data, summarize findings, and participate/assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and possibly grants. The duties also include training lab personal, participating in laboratory and equipment maintenance, ordering supplies as needed, performing literature review, updating research protocols and design, and potentially developing new ideas that serve the research goals set by the PI.

Dr. Dong’s lab is funded by the National Institutes of Health. The current lab research is focused on the pathogenesis and molecular mechanism of diabetes and obesity, fatty liver disease, and cancer using both cell systems and animal models.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Pediatrics

Dr. Lauren A. Magee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Children’s Health Services Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She is a criminologist and health services researcher, with an interdisciplinary research agenda focused on preventing firearm injuries, reducing health disparities within communities, and identifying opportunities for intervention among people impacted by firearm violence.

Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is currently seeking applications from highly motivated, team-oriented candidates for a research postdoctoral fellowship. The full-time position will focus on honing expertise and research acumen in the areas of adolescent firearm injuries and death, mental health, traumatic stress, and defining trauma networks to identify children and young adults exposed to firearm injury and estimate prevalence rates of mental health outcomes, firearm injury, and mortality among network members to identify future opportunities for interventions.
Candidates with interests in social network analysis, data informatics, and developing, and implementing applied research projects aimed at improving reach and effectiveness of behavioral health services for young people are encouraged to apply. The fellow will actively participate in implementation, data analysis, and dissemination of findings (manuscripts, presentations) from NIH studies. Dr. Matthew Aalsma, Vice Chair of Health Services Research and Director of the Adolescent Behavioral Health Research Program in the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is currently seeking applications from highly motivated, team-oriented candidates for a research postdoctoral fellowship. The full-time position will focus on honing expertise and research acumen in the areas of adolescent substance use, mental health, traumatic stress, and behavioral interventions for youth and families.

Candidates with interests in developing and implementing applied research projects aimed at improving reach and effectiveness of behavioral health services for young people are encouraged to apply. The fellow will actively participate in implementation, data analysis, and dissemination of findings(manuscripts, presentations) from multiple NIH-funded clinical trials and studies. Additional opportunities include contributing to studies on youth-participatory and community-engaged research as well as behavioral health informatics. The fellow will receive mentorship from faculty investigators toward the development of an independent program of research. Training will be provided in project design, grant writing, and research ethics. Fellows may have the opportunity to gain clinical hours toward licensure through the delivery of clinic- and telehealth-based assessment and treatment services.
