(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in joint sensing and underwater communication

The Department of Communication Systems conducts research in wireless communication, including challenging environments where traditional radio does not work. One such environment is underwater, where communication relies on acoustics and where bandwidth, delay, and noise impose strict limits.

Within the EU project ASTERION, we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to explore new approaches to underwater communication systems. The focus is on developing integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) methods that enable acoustic communication signals to serve a dual purpose: transmitting information while simultaneously serving as sonar pulses. This requires addressing fundamental trade-offs between data rate, sensing performance, and robustness to multipath propagation.

The position includes theoretical modeling and analysis, algorithm development, and experimental validation. There are opportunities to participate in sea trials and evaluate developed methods in realistic underwater conditions.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doc in Techno-Economic System Modelling of Energy Communities

To support the integration of energy communities and virtual energy sharing in Sweden, technically robust and economically viable solutions are required under evolving regulatory and grid conditions. This postdoctoral position at KTH focuses on developing advanced modelling frameworks and techno-economic analyses within two national research projects addressing virtual energy sharing and large-scale energy community deployment. The researcher will lead activities related to time-resolved energy systems modelling, optimisation, and digital twin development for pilot sites, including scenario-based evaluation of virtual sharing configurations, assessment of metering and system integration requirements, and quantitative analysis of economic, regulatory, and grid impacts. The role involves developing and implementing numerical models, calibrating them with real measurement data, conducting sensitivity and scalability analyses, and comparing energy community investments with conventional grid reinforcement strategies. The position includes collaboration with housing associations, distribution system operators, electricity suppliers, and academic partners, as well as contributions to policy-relevant recommendations and scientific publications. Candidates must have a strong background in energy systems modelling, optimisation, and quantitative techno-economic analysis.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doc in techno-economic modelling of hybrid renewable power plants.

Next generation power plants for industrial-scale heat and power supply must rely on the optimum combination and operation of technologies that maximize the use of renewable energy sources and provide flexibility for both the networks and end-users. These plants will likely integrate power-to-x and energy storage technologies, as well as leverage from existing infrastructure with state-of-the-art thermal power blocks, but also more innovative renewable technologies both on-site and virtually. In doing so the traditional energy-supply business models will also evolve, as these plants will be able to stack additional revenues from their flexibility and capacity to perform sector coupling where applicable. The present post-doc position will contribute and lead research in relation to the development and validation of techno-economic performance models for the design and operation of these plants. The post-doc is expected to build upon existing in-house tools and, where applicable, enhance them by means of AI (machine learning) and data-driven methods. These models are aimed to support decision making of plant developers, network operators, technology developers, policymakers, and end-users. International cooperation with industrial and academic partners in the sector is planned. It is also expected that the post-doc ill support in the management of on-going research projects, for which previous experience is highly valuable. Co-supervision of PhD students is also foreseen.
