The positions are associated with Research Council of Finland projects Commutators, compactness, and application; Finnish Centre of Excellence in Randomness and Structures; and Geometric analysis, stochastics and partial differential equations, interactions and applications.
The starting date is flexible, preferably no later than September 2026. The positions are for a period of 1–2 years with a possible one-year extension. Considering different life situations, applications for a longer or a shorter contract with us are equally welcome.
Deadline : April 30, 2026
(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in quantum optomechanics with polaritons
The project aims to unlock quantum regime of optomechanics with polaritons by utilizing GaAs/AlAs-based microcavities with embedded quantum wells. These unconventional optomechanical systems exhibit a unique “magic coincidence” of their phonon and polariton properties allowing for the simultaneous trapping of light and sound within the same high-Q cavity, and resulting in extremely high optomechanical interaction for the polaritons and mechanical modes in GHz range. The project is carried out in close collaboration with leading experts in semiconductor cavity optomechanics in Berlin, providing access to complementary expertise and device know-how.
We aim to cool mechanical degrees of freedom deeply into their quantum ground state and observe sideband asymmetry, using dilution refrigerator with optical access and free space interferometry. Beyond ground state cooling, the project targets bi-partite quantum states preparation and coherent control of phonons and polaritons. The successful candidate will join the MQO-QNOF team at Aalto University and build a state-of-the-art cryogenic optical experiment combining advanced interferometry, quantum optics techniques, and unique semiconductor cavity structures unavailable elsewhere.
Deadline :April 1, 2026

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Artificial Intelligence Research Software Engineer
Are you more of a programmer than your researcher colleagues? Are you more of a researcher than commercial developers? Do you want a career that involves research and science but isn’t the academic tenure track? The Academic Research Software Engineer position is your next step on that path.
This position will be similar to a postdoc, but with an emphasis on research infrastructure, HPC,and engineering rather than preparation for an academic career path. You will be involved in research, but more focused on learning and improving how computing, workflows, and data are used in research than finding your own novel research results and publishing them.
You will work with research groups and be affiliated with Aalto Scientific Computing (ASC). You’ll serve as an intermediary between the two. Compared to the staff of ASC, you will be directly working within research groups, much more involved in day-to-day research, follow projects for a much longer period, and more involved in publications. Compared to a typical academic position, you will have a joint affiliation with ASC and get extra training in research engineering. There will be less emphasis on novel results for the sake of novelty, and more on applying and developing best practices in the way the research is done.
Deadline : 31.3.2026
(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: HIIT: Postdoctoral Fellow positions in Computer Science
The Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT) is seeking Postdoctoral Fellows to join the Helsinki region information technology research community. The position is intended support early-career researchers on their road towards being independent researchers, in collaboration with one or more supervisors in HIIT Faculty. The position gives the fellows excellent opportunities for high-quality and high-impact research and for creating research networks supporting their careers.
Deadline : March 22nd, 2026
(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher Position in AI/DFT/DMFT Computational Materials Discovery – Aalto University
The research will focus on developing and using machine learning algorithms to discover novel materials and to build generative models capable of breakthroughs. The research will mix state of the art numerical skills with analytic understanding. Your task is to predict new classes of materials that have not been considered before, beyond substitutional frameworks, and target desirable properties such as high critical temperature. The work is done in close collaboration with experimentalists: the most promising materials will be synthesized, providing direct feedback on theory analysis and further predictions. The goal is to develop a theoretical and computational approach that has strong predictive power for finding completely new types of materials.
We are searching for a Postdoctoral Researcher with excellent numerical skills and a deep understanding of condensed-matter physics concepts. Experience in machine learning, DFT, symmetry aware learning, material science, and group theory is required.
Andrei Bernevig is a leading scientist in the research of quantum materials and has, for example, predicted topological materials and developed a systematic approach to identify thousands of new topological materials. Päivi Törmä has pioneered the idea that quantum geometry allows supercurrent and superconductivity in flat bands where non-interacting particles are localized. For recent research outputs of the PIs, please see Andrei Bernevig’s entry at Google Scholar, and Päivi Törmä’s at Google Scholar.

About Aalto University, Finland –Official Website
Aalto University is a university located in Espoo, Finland. It was established in 2010 as a merger of three major Finnish universities: the Helsinki University of Technology (established 1849), the Helsinki School of Economics (established 1904), and the University of Art and Design Helsinki (established 1871). The close collaboration between the scientific, business and arts communities is intended to foster multi-disciplinary education and research. The Finnish government, in 2010, set out to create a university that fosters innovation, merging the three institutions into one.
The university is composed of six schools with close to 17,500 students and 4,000 staff members, making it Finland’s second largest university. The main campus of Aalto University is located in Otaniemi, Espoo. Aalto University Executive Education operates in the district of Töölö, Helsinki. In addition to the Greater Helsinki area, the university also operates its Bachelor’s Programme in International Business in Mikkeli and the Metsähovi Radio Observatory in Kirkkonummi.
Aalto University’s operations showcase Finland’s experiment in higher education. The Aalto Design Factory, Aalto Ventures Program and Aalto Entrepreneurship Society (Aaltoes), among others, drive the university’s mission for a radical shift towards multidisciplinary learning and have contributed substantially to the emergence of Helsinki as a hotbed for startups.Aaltoes is Europe’s largest and most active student run entrepreneurship community that has founded major concepts such as the Startup Sauna accelerator program and the Slush startup event.
