(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: 2 two-year postdocs on children’s political socialization at Aarhus University

Political marginalization, understood as the systematic underrepresentation of social groups in political office, is a major democratic problem. To understand its entrenched, structural nature, the YOPOW project will examine how societal norms take root already early in life and give rise to beliefs about who is fit for power.

The project is organized around three work packages. Work package I examines the messages children and youth receive about political power in school materials, children’s news media, and politicians’ social media. Work package II studies their beliefs about political power. Finally, work package III zooms in on the early experiences of politically interested youth and how these experiences teach them lessons about their own fit in politically powerful positions. The two positions advertised in this call focus primarily on the second work package.

The YOPOW research project runs for five years from August 2025 until July 2030 and is carried out by a team of three postdocs, two research assistants, and Associate Professor Kristina Bakkær Simonsen as the project leader. The two postdocs advertised in this call will be responsible for developing the qualitative design for story-telling interviews to be conducted among 12–15-year-old children to examine their beliefs about political power. The project is funded by an ERC Starting Grant, the flagship funding program of the European Union, which supports frontier, cutting-edge research. Read more about the project here in an interview with Kristina Bakkær Simonsen and check out the project homepage.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in method development in human statistical genetics, with a focus on classification of complex diseases

Applications are invited for a postdoc position at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics, Aarhus University, starting from 1st October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be for two years.

The postdoc will be supervised by Professor Doug Speed, and based at the Department of Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) at Aarhus University. Dr Speed’s research involves developing statistical methods for better analysing data from genome-wide association studies (GWAS), with a particular focus on improving our understanding of human complex traits. Dr Speed has developed the software package LDAK (www.ldak.org).

The position will be mainly funded by an ERC consolidator grant, aimed at finding novels ways to classify complex diseases based on genetic data:

“Many common diseases are highly heterogeneous, meaning that two individuals can be diagnosed with the same disease but have very different progressions or respond very differently to the same medication. These heterogeneous diseases affect a sizeable proportion of the population. For example, approximately one in four people will develop a heterogeneous brain disorder (e.g., a neurological condition such as epilepsy or Parkinson’s Disease, or a psychiatric condition such as depression or schizophrenia)

To effectively treat a patient with a heterogeneous disease, it is necessary to quickly and accurately identify their subtype. At present, patient subtypes are decided using only clinical observations, and the process is highly suboptimal. For example, the available subtypes are often incomplete or poorly-defined, meaning that many patients are wrongly classified or can not be classified at all.

(34) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in image-based analysis of neurovascular and neurocognitive changes after radiotherapy of childhood brain tumours

The research project of this postdoc will be based on follow-up data from a cohort of survivors after radiotherapy of childhood brain tumours. The project will examine with which frequency and at what degree neurovascular changes develop after treatment. The survivors will undergo a clinical examination, they will complete several questionnaires regarding key parameters in quality of life, they will undergo psychoneurological (cognitive) testing, they will be subject to MRI scans with vascular sequences and finally serological markers linked to neurovascular function from blood samples will be analysed. Two clinical (pediatric/radiation oncology) PhD projects closely connected with the present medical physics postdoc position are currently starting. The role of the postdoc will be to study radiation treatment plans in relation to substructures in the brain, to build models to better understand the relation between radiation doses and neurovascular effects and to develop proton therapy planning strategies to mitigate these effects.  The project will be performed in a close multidisciplinary teamwork of pediatric oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, neuropsychologists, neurovascular radiologists, neurologists and radiobiologists.

(35) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in learning theory problems at the Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University

This is a full-time (37 hours/week) on-site role located in Aarhus, Denmark for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Computer Science, Aarhus University.
This position is for 2 years (24 months) but can be renewed for (up to) an additional year. The start date is May 15th, 2026 – or soon thereafter.

The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research on learning theory problems related to algorithms with actionable performance guarantees. More specifically, the research will revolve around the following theme:

High probability convergence in stochastic optimization under heavy-tailed noise. Going beyond the canonical sub-Gaussian noise models, the objective is to prove tight convergence rates for first-order or zeroth-order methods when the noise is heavy tailed. This allows us to reliably use the algorithms in practice, when little to no assumptions can be made on the data.
