Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position – Decolonisation and the legacies of blockade
This postdoc position, part of the ERC-Synergy sponsored BLOCKADE project, seeks to understand the long legacies of blockades on the post-war order. Specifically, it questions how the blockades of the era of the total war influenced or inspired the key tools of the post-1945 liberal international order, namely inter- and supranational forms of credit, finance, and resource control under United Nations management. Specifically, it questions whether these blockade-mediated institutions facilitate or hinder the transition from dependence to independence and the subsequent integration of new African member states into the United Nations-backed global order. We are looking for someone with advanced skills in ‘decolonising’ international history to answer these questions! Case studies you will look must include one former French possession (e.g. Mali, Morocco, Tunisia) and one former British possession (e.g. Ghana, Sudan). The source base includes digitised UN Economic Commission for Africa records, as well as national financial and foreign office archives.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doc Position in Applied Polymer Research
In the face of climate change, there is a need to use more biobased feedstocks to produce the materials in and around our buildings. There are promising uses for polymers based on vegetable drying oils, which spontaneously oxidize to form complex polymer networks. These are already applied in, for example, linoleum flooring and alkyd paints, but they also form the binder in historical oil paintings. In all these applications, a common challenge is to accurately control the properties of these sensitive polymer systems. The goal of this project is to study how surface characteristics (efflorescence/deposition of material on the surface, acidity, polarity, surface roughness, etc.) of complex drying oil polymer networks change under influence of environmental conditions like humidity, temperature and air flow. The research will support both industrial process development as well as paintings conservation efforts.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in Cognition in Stressful Environments
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of cognition in stressful environments. This position is part of a research project named “Cognition in stressful environments: An integrative approach” (CONTENTMATTERS), funded by an NWO Vici grant.
The postdoc position will be embedded in the Developmental Evolutionary Ecological Psychology (DEEP) lab (PI: Willem Frankenhuis) at the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands). The postdoc will collaborate with stakeholders in educational measurement and testing. The postdoc will develop experimental research on human cognition, as described next.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc for Research Programme Ab-initio Biowaste Loop (ABEL)
ABEL, a large interdisciplinary consortium will tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time: transforming low-value waste streams into high-value, sustainable materials and closing material loops in the Dutch bioeconomy. Under the supervision of Professor Joyeeta Gupta, you will contribute to cutting-edge, societally relevant research at the interface of science, policy, and sustainability transitions. To close material loops in the Dutch bioeconomy, ABEL brings together a large multidisciplinary consortium from industry, academia, policymakers, and societal partners to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time: making high-value, sustainable, and circular biomaterials from low-value waste streams that can compete and even outperform traditional alternatives. The target sectors for this project are the agriculture sector, construction sector, asphalt paving sector, aviation sector, and household sector.
In particular, you will try to understand what the theoretical and actual policy bottlenecks are at local, national and EU level that stand in the way of a sustainability transition in closing material loops and what steps (research, workshops, policy briefs, lobbying) are needed to enable such a transition. This requires also a good understanding of the technologies being developed within the project; at the same time the post doc will also contribute to the development of such technologies by promoting knowledge of the policy principles that govern such a transition. In other words, the post doc will also ensure that the transition does not create new problems.
