This is an opportunity to be involved in a research team, led by Dr Christopher Chen, to work on the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (FLF) project “Exploring New Regions of Space: Fundamentals and Impacts of Astrophysical Plasma Turbulence”. This is a highly collaborative team effort, with interlinking (and flexible) projects, to understand both fundamental space/astrophysical/experimental plasma process and applied space weather research – including the fundamentals of turbulence, the role it plays in controlling heliospheric/astrophysical dynamics, and its largely unexplored role in space weather. The project involves cutting-edge observational data analysis, lab plasma experiments, theory, numerical simulation, and space weather modelling, so applicants with expertise in any of these areas (and interest in getting involved in the others) are encouraged. The FLF offers extensive dedicated career support for all team members.

The School of Physical and Chemical Sciences includes the Department of Physics and Astronomy which hosts world-class research centres across a range of areas in modern physics: Astronomy, Experimental Particle Physics, Theoretical Physics, and Condensed Matter & Materials Science. It has 53 academic staff, 45 research staff, 85 PhD students, and runs successful undergraduate/postgraduate teaching programmes with ~400 students. We invite applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) in the School of Mathematical Sciences for the project “Universality in Topological Data Analysis”, funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Omer Bobrowski and Dr. Primoz Skraba, on developing the theory required to prove a series of conjectures on the universality properties of topological descriptors. A second goal is a fundamental challenge in Topological Data Analysis (TDA) – assessing the statistical significance of topological structures detected in data. The position comes with opportunities for attending workshops and conferences as well as establishing additional collaborations. The successful applicant will have, or soon obtain, a PhD degree in mathematics, or equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience, in a field closely related to probability theory and/or applied topology, plus experience in writing high quality research papers.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join a team to study the role of centrosome amplification in cancer, with a focus on tumour microenvironment. Our laboratory uses various approaches, 2-/3-D cultures and mouse models, cutting-edge quantitative proteomics and imaging to understand how centrosome alterations impact cell physiology and cancer progression. The candidate will join a vibrant multidisciplinary environment and will be supported to develop their scientific career and have an impact in the centrosome/microtubule and cancer fields.

Following the discovery of populations of stem/progenitor cells within the adrenal cortex, the successful applicant will further investigate their biology using in vivo models of genetic lineage tracing and will establish long-lasting 3D structures from isolated stem cells and provide a full functional characterization; these organoid-like structures will eventually be tested as surrogates of the adrenal gland in mouse models of adrenal insufficiency. Responsibilities will include transgenic breeding and genotyping, isolation of stem/progenitor cells, primary cell culture, interpretation of RNAseq and spatial transcriptomic data, immunohistochemistry, xenotransplantation.

Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to undertake research investigations in collaboration with and under the supervision of Dr Özgen Deniz in order to realise the objectives and development of the research programme on the “Epigenetic Regulation of Transposable Elements in Cancer”. The research will be based in the Centre for Haemato-Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

A postdoctoral research position is available to investigate the epigenetic mechanisms operating at the boundary between normal and cancer. This is a collaborative project between cancer epigenetics experts and computational biologists to understand how stress signals rewire the epigenome and cell identities.

We seek an experienced postdoctoral researcher to pursue a novel collaborative project linking hypoxia, PTEN loss, and alternative splicing in prostate cancer using cutting-edge molecular approaches.

Two postdoctoral researchers are required to work with Dr Thomas Haworth. The broad science focus is the impact of star forming environment on planet formation and there are a range of possible topics within this. Dr Haworth’s work is predominantly numerical modelling but includes making observational predictions and working directly with observational data (including proposing new observations with facilities such as ALMA/JWST). There is therefore scope for both theoretical and observational research.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be joining the Centre for Preventive Neurology (CPN) to work on the international Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program (GP2; https://gp2.org/), funded by the Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s initiative and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Specifically, the post holder will join the ‘early/at-risk’ theme of GP2, focused on understanding the genetic basis of prodromal Parkinson’s disease (PD) on a global scale. This includes identifying cohorts of patients with REM sleep behaviour disorder, hyposmia, and carriers of monogenic causes of PD, liaising with the principal investigators and ultimately bringing the data into GP2.

This post is for an enthusiastic and proactive postdoctoral research assistant to join the dementia group at the Centre for Preventive Neurology (CPN). The postholder will work on generating real-world evidence for the diagnostic value of digital biomarkers for dementia. This post is funded for 3 years by a grant from NIHR. The successful candidate will identify, recruit and assess participants, and assist with transfer and curation of data. They will be responsible for taking a lead on the analyses of data. The postholder will have the opportunity to present and publish results from the study.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to develop, drive and deliver their research project, while working with other members of the Ilangovan group and our collaborators on a regular basis. Candidates must have a meticulous approach to data collection, analysis and preparing manuscript for publication. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team, and deliver projects within an agreed timeframe is also essential. Evidence of high-impact publication in structural biology or a related field is desirable.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work with Dr John Viles and his research team on a BBSRC funded project entitled “Amyloids and Oligomers. Curvilinear and annular structures and their interaction with exosomes and whole cells”. The successful candidate will use a range of biophysical approaches to study Alzheimer’s disease by revealing the interaction of amyloid fibrils and oligomers with lipid membranes. You will join a multidisciplinary, diverse, inclusive team with frequent meetings, interactions, and high-quality mentoring.

You will be passionate about science, including defending the cultural value of knowledge for its own sake. You will also possess computational expertise in data mining and / or analysis, ideally including language processing, and be able to work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers. Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to investigate mechanical sensing and mechanical memory in cardiac muscle cells and its involvement in cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular diseases are the major cause of mortality worldwide, yet there is still a lack of effective treatments. Recent research increasingly emphasised that changes to mechanical sensing and signalling critically influences the disease onset and progression. The position will be based at the Iskratsch lab in the Centre of Bioengineering at Queen Mary University of London and is part of a recently funded British Heart Foundation Special Project Grant in collaboration with Prof Sanjay Sinha at the University of Cambridge and Prof Ben Goult at the University of Kent, whereby one PDRA will be embedded in each group and work together towards the collaborative goal to decipher mechanical memory as driver for cardiac disease progression across the scales from single molecule⁵ to tissue level.

Applicants are invited to apply for a 3-year BBSRC funded post-doctoral position to join a team investigating the use of CAR-Tregs for the treatment of people with ALS. The project will test CAR-Tregs made by Reflection Therapeutics for the treatment of people with ALS. The efficacy of CAR-Treg therapy is limited by the immunosuppressive environment. We have shown that the ALS tissue environment is senescence-inducing which causes profound changes to both Treg phenotype and metabolism. This project will extend these findings and investigate the metabolic mechanism of senescence-induction in CAR-Tregs
