(15) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Assistant

The project aims to develop new routes to high efficiency solar energy conversion – both for photovoltaics (PV) and photo electrocatalysis (PEC) – by producing nanocomposite thin films of ferroelectric and photoactive materials. Ferroelectric nanostructures will be developed that demonstrate a bulk photovoltaic effect, which will then be coupled to high efficiency light absorbers, such as photocatalysts or halide perovskites. These nanocomposites will be studied in detail using both experimental and computational techniques in order to understand and thus optimise their interactions and ultimately the device efficiency.

In this position you will be required to produce thin films of ferroelectric materials and nanocomposites using Pulsed Laser Deposition facilities at the University of Cambridge. The rest of the research work will be undertaken at Queen Mary in Mile End, London, so you will need to travel regularly between the two sites. You will characterize the materials at QMUL using a range of techniques including scanning electron microscopy, piezo response force microscopy, and x-ray diffraction. You will also carry out photovoltaic measurements on the materials to identify signatures of the bulk photovoltaic effect.

How to increase Brain Power – Secrets of Brain Unlocked

(20) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant

A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available in the Department of Biological and Experimental Psychology to work with Dr Margherita Malanchini on a project titled: “Understanding the combined impact of behavioural and neurodevelopmental disorders on learning and child development.” The post holder will be an integral part of Dr Malanchini’s Cognition, Development and Education (CoDE) Lab.

Despite sharing several features —their developmental onset, common cognitive and affective profiles, and clinical observations of their co-occurrence— the overlap between neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) and disruptive behaviour disorders (DBD) is critically under-researched. This project seeks to bridge this major gap in our knowledge by investigating the combined impact of NDD and DBD on learning and child development outcomes, considering genetic and environmental risk factors and their interplay. Ultimately, this research aims to address the following question: Do children with a higher risk for NDD and DBD experience different environments that in turn lead them down divergent educational and developmental trajectories? The goal is to pinpoint protective environments that work in interplay with genetic risk as intervention targets aimed at narrowing the educational gap between children with different neurodivergent and behavioural profiles, a gap that is amplified when multiple disorders co-occur.
