You will work within the Swedish Centre for Impacts of Climate Extremes (CLIMES). CLIMES is a collaboration between Uppsala University, Lund University and RISE, and will be inaugurated in 2024. The Centre is at the core of a prolific interdisciplinary scientific community, and seeks to lead a lively series of meetings, international exchanges and training events. The centre also hosts several national and international research projects. All centre activities have a broad focus on impacts of climate extremes: from financial losses to impacts on ecosystems to consequences for society and public health. Positions at the centre come with considerable freedom to develop your own research ideas, generous funding for international stays within the centre’s network, the opportunity to suggest leading foreign experts to be invited to Sweden for research visits and a strong focus on career development. You will be based at the Dept. of Earth Sciences in Uppsala, but will be expected to travel both nationally and internationally.

The research in the project is on developing and evaluating methods for detection and quantification in neuroradiology. An overall goal is to make advanced image processing methods available for treatment follow-up in neuroradiology. The position concerns research in the above-mentioned projects.

• The main duty of the researcher is to conduct research. The research will mainly focus on the material development of lead encapsulants and their application in fabricating stable and efficient perovskite solar cells.
• The researcher is expected to develop, synthesis and characterize potential encapsulant materials and/or fabricate highly efficient perovskite solar cells.
• The researcher is expected to actively collaborate and be part of collaborative work.

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with excellent credentials and strong motivation to identify and solve scientific problems. The employee will work in a project that aims to understand structural and mechanistic aspects of how lncRNA MEG3 regulates cellular signaling pathways to control cell cycle, imprinting in early development, and neurodegeneration, while also analyzing the conservation degree of this lncRNA and its interactants across species. Tasks include general RNA-based molecular biology techniques (in vitro transcription, RT-qPCR, RNA-FISH), RNA-protein interaction studies (pull downs, RNA-immunoprecipitation, cellular and biochemical characterization of ribonucleoprotein complexes), work with mammalian cell culture (including techniques such as transfection, gene editing, gene silencing, and gene reporter assays) and can be further complemented with microscopy techniques. The researcher will co-supervise a doctoral student and work closely with researchers with partly complementary competences, but is expected to run their own project independently. A strong track record with documented laboratory skills, motivation and good collaboration skills is a prerequisite for the position.

The task is mainly to develop and conduct research in African Anthropology as a research of the Forum for Africa Studies. In addition to this, there is teaching corresponding to one course per semester and certain research administrative tasks. Teaching and research administration comprises a maximum of 20 percent of the scope of the employment. The research can be newly started and/or consist of reworking a doctoral dissertation into a monograph published by an international publisher. The successful applicant is expected to actively participate in seminars and other activities in Uppsala, be a resource for the graduate students, and contribute to the development of the research environment of the Forum for Africa Studies.

Duties include conducting research, research administration and teaching one course (or the equivalent) per semester. Teaching and administration are not to exceed 20% of the fulltime position. Research may be newly established and/or may consist of transforming an unpublished doctoral dissertation into a monograph published by a leading international publisher. The successful applicant is expected to participate actively in the program’s seminars and activities, be a resource for Engaging Vulnerability’s graduate students, and contribute to the development of a vibrant research environment, both within the program and at the Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology. Together with the advisory board of the Engaging Vulnerability program, the successful applicant is also to plan for the program’s future activities and focus.

The focus is on electrolyte materials made of ceramics and polymers. Battery components are analyzed in in-operando experiments in the TEM. In addition to research, there may be some involvement in supervising doctoral students and project students, communicating research results through scientific articles and presentations at international conferences, and contributing to teaching and applying for external research funding.

Organs-on-chip is a growing field of research with the ambition to eventually replace traditional animal experiments. A special focus for our research group is to develop droplet microfluidic systems with integrated acoustics, so-called acoustofluidic systems, to handle and study cells as they grow in a 3D environment mimicking body tissue. Today we are approx. 15 people in the group and as we recently received an ERC Consolidator grant focused on the development of microfluidic solutions for the generation of organoids, we are now looking for a postdoctoral researchers who is driven by scientific curiosity and a desire to develop the acoustofluidic technology for new applications.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in stellar astrophysics, funded through a grant from the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA) for participation in the Plato space mission. The position is hosted by the Division of Astronomy and Space Physics. Plato is an ESA mission dedicated to detect and characterise terrestrial exoplanets in the habitable zones of their host stars. The launch is planned for 2026. Science preparation and exploitation is the responsibility of the international Plato Mission Consortium, which includes a considerable part focusing on stellar science.

The project involves establishing longitudinal models based on data from clinical trials and observational studies. Several applications concern data from patients with rare diseases and the project aims to develop powerful and robust methods to assess therapy effects in clinical studies with small patient populations. The investigations will include models and methods in the range between standard analyzes (e.g., mixed models for repeated measurements) to mechanistically based pharmacometric models (typically non-linear mixed effects models). Aspects such as causal inference and definition of estimates will be included in the project. The projects are run in collaboration with medical and statistical research groups in both academia and industry in Europe.

Current research projects involve mechanistic characterization of signal transduction through G-protein-coupled receptors and related computer-aided drug design programs, computational analysis of enzyme evolution and adaptation and software development. The work will involve molecular dynamics, free energy calculations, molecular docking, bioinformatics analysis and modelling of protein structure, as well as contribute to the programming of related computational pipelines. 

This postdoc project is focusing on the latter, namely how the marine carbon cycle responses feed back onto the global carbon cycle and modulate projected climate changes. The specific focus of the postdoc will be to use the coupled earth system model EC-Earth (v3 to begin with, perhaps transitioning to v4) and implement developments achieved in other work packages into the EC-Earth, and to perform global-scale sensitivity and future simulations. The work will be done in close collaboration with teammates from Aarhus University (working with EC-Earth on the terrestial carbon cycle) as well as GreenFeedBack partners at other organisations within the consortium.

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious postdoctoral fellow to join our dynamic team, contributing to the development of screening strategies for context-dependent drug responses in biomimetic hydrogels. This opportunity centers around cutting-edge projects focused on increasing our understanding of how the extracellular matrix influences the diffusion, uptake and effectiveness of chemotherapeutic drugs. These projects involve the development of groundbreaking bioprinting technologies and innovative methods for the automated formulation, dispensing and analysis of high-throughput biomimetic hydrogel systems and downstream assessment of cellular responses. The project is multidisciplinary and involves collaborations with industrial partners. Central to this role is demonstrated expertise in cell culture and method development. The applicant should have a strong background and extensive technical proficiency in cell culture techniques, PCR, immunocytochemistry, advanced microscopy and image analysis.  Moreover, a genuine passion for method development is essential, with a preference for candidates with expertise in bioprinting, additive manufacturing or automation in research. The main duties involved in a postdoctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The main focus of the current research project is modelling of battery materials where we will develop physical models for multi-scale modelling purposes and use a broad spectrum of advanced simulation techniques such as electron structure calculations and molecular dynamics for detailed studies of the transport processes. The research work also involves development and use of data analysis and data handling strategies, such as machine-learning, as well as a close collaboration with experimentalists within ÅABC. 

Research on fundamental models and methods in machine learning and their applications within medicine. The position is part of an ERC Advanced Grant focused on developing decision support for the emergency room. The work will be done in close collaboration with our medical partner Professor Johan Sundström who leads the Anders Wiklöf Institute for Heart Research. We already share offices and our groups have been collaborating for quite some time. The postdoctoral position will intensify our work on developing and analyzing methods in machine learning and their application within medicine. The methodological focus will be on deep learning and its combination with probabilistic models. The medical application involves work on extracting knowledge from large-scale ECG data sets and a possible collaboration with an existing postdoc working on large language models trained on large databases with electronic health records. The aim there is to be able to investigate the use of these models for decision support and the position can also include work on decision algorithms. The work carried out during the employment will form an important contribution towards implementing solutions for evaluating land for its biodiversity value and potential. This is a crucial step towards combatting the global biodiversity crisis, as it enables governments and the industry to make sustainable and long-term biodiversity-positive investments. The aim is to be able to investigate the use of these models for decision support and the position can also include work on decision algorithms. Development of more sustainable lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles has been a common theme of several generations of collaborative projects between the Swedish automotive industry and academia. This particular postdoc-project will focus on fundamental and applied experimental studies to evaluate the battery performance when using the zero-cobalt layered cathode materials. The material stability and ageing mechanisms of zero-Co lithium-ion batteries will be investigated. Both prototype batteries and commercial cells will be used, and the work will take place within the framework of a larger project financed by the Swedish Energy Agency and together with the large industrial company. More specific, the focus of the investigations will be on the assessment of electrochemical performance, sustainability and cost effectiveness of zero-Co cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles. In practice, this means for example to cycle the batteries under specified conditions, and thereafter analyze the cell components with experimental methods. These will rely on electrochemistry, diffraction, and spectroscopy, but also other methods and experiments at synchrotron facilities may be applicable. We will also focus on the development of Co substitutes in the layered cathodes to obtain an understanding of the best usage strategy of the zero-Co layered oxides from the batteries while they are being charged and discharged in electric vehicles. The project will entail characterizing materials, electrode preparation, cell assembly, conducting electrochemical testing and measurements of structures, morphology and interfaces as well as thermal stability. The postdoc is expected to perform high quality research, with the aim of disseminating resulting works through high impact peer-reviewed journals or at national and international conferences. Strong collaboration with colleagues in academia and industry as well as other national and international project partners will be expected.
