PhD position summary/title: PHD FELLOW AT THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY AND SOCIAL WORK.
The position is part of the project “The formation of worker collectivism among migrant workers in Denmark, Germany and the UK”, Which is led by Associate Professor Bjarke Refslund (PI), and which is funded by the Danish Independent Research Council. The project is comparative and examines when and under what conditions and conditions migrant workers in Germany, England and Denmark, respectively, define their interests collectively, and therefore also act collectively when they experience working conditions that they find unsatisfactory. Despite the fact that migrant workers more often experience poorer pay and working conditions, they typically focus less on collective solutions, for example through trade unions. By looking at selected cases and industries, the project will examine what prerequisites are needed when migrant workers choose collective strategies over individual strategies. The project focuses on low-wage work and industries typically characterized by highly unskilled work.

PhD position summary/title: PHD STIPEND IN SAFE MACHINE LEARNING .
We will develop the theory of safety focusing on mathematical characterizations and numerical approximation methods for the associated safety function and safety measure. Specifically, we will identify the set of initial states from which the probability of reaching an unsafe region (before reaching the desired target) is small enough.
We will consider model-driven optimal control based on dynamic programming. We will introduce stochastic barrier certificates in dynamic programming. This work will pave the way for solutions in data-driven optimization methods. We will use these results for safe dynamic programming to equip Reinforcement Learning with a barrier certificate.

PhD position summary/title: ONE OR MORE PHD STIPENDS IN 6G AND OTHER POST-5G COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS.
Our research group considers the following three premises towards 6G systems:
(1) Increase in the number and heterogeneity of connections requires new concepts for sustainable spectrum usage.
(2) The wireless infrastructure will evolve towards disaggregation, with increasing fraction of general- purpose hardware that is configurable in software.
(3) A growing number of industries and services will require reliable, resilient, and predictable wireless connectivity. Methodologically, the research on post-5G wireless systems will deviate from the traditional communication engineering to embrace methods and techniques from sensing, inference, machine learning, positioning, network economics, metamaterials and quantum communication

PhD position summary/title: PHD STIPEND IN ADAPTIVE ULTRASOUND REFLECTOMETRY FOR TRIBOMECHATRONIC SYSTEMS.
The main task in this project is the development of multi-frequency incident wave spectrum estimation algorithms to achieve more robustness of the adaptive ultrasound reflectometry techniques.
Based on the proposed algorithms further analysis of the adaptive ultrasound reflectometry technique applied to tribodynamic state-observation need to be conducted. The project also consists of experimental work to test and validate the developments. As part of the UltrAdapt project the PhD-student will cooperate with other participants on the acquisition of a novel test-setup, which is to be used for validation of the proposed algorithms for tribodynamic state-observation of lubricated interfaces. It is the intention to bring the findings of the PhD-student out of the laboratory to products in real operating conditions. It is therefore planned to perform field-tests in the late stage of the project.

PhD position summary/title: PHD SCHOLARSHIP: DARK DESIGN – SOCIAL EXCLUSION IN URBAN SPACE.
The main project examines the connection between urban space design (for example, sloping benches or residence-preventing artifacts) and criminalization with special regard to the homeless in the city’s public spaces. The project is carried out in close collaboration with NGOs and the City of Copenhagen. The PhD project is based on the main question: How is social exclusion created in urban spaces through the design of urban spaces and urban space furniture? The PhD project includes fieldwork among the project’s partners and in the city’s space among the homeless. The project also includes a review of relevant regulations in relation to urban planning and new construction in order to create an overview of rules that contribute to social exclusion. The project will contribute to the main project’s goal of creating a “dialogue platform” for making dark design visible, as well as public dialogue about the homeless’ problems with social exclusion in urban spaces.
