The Heaney Lab in the Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine invites applications for a postdoctoral position to conduct research on development of novel treatment of neuroendocrine tumors. Dr. Heaney’s research program focuses on disease model establishment and drug screen. Ongoing projects include identification of therapeutic targets of pituitary and other neuroendocrine tumors.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in molecular endocrinology, a strong research background in tumor biology and experience working with primary cultures and mice. The Division of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research, Medicine-Pediatrics Section, Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a Postdoctoral position. This is a one-year and full-time postdoctoral clinical fellowship for a pre-licensed individual seeking advanced training in evidence-based treatment for mental health conditions that commonly present within interdisciplinary community settings (including substance use). The patient populations will consist of adults and adolescent patients/clients within settings that include traditional outpatient therapy settings, an innovative youth drop-in setting, and a substance use residential treatment/intensive outpatient program (IOP). A Ph.D./Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology is required. Individuals who fill this role will rotate through multiple clinic locations to gain the full breadth of therapeutic modalities among a diversity of Los Angeles populations served by UCLA Health and its affiliates. This individual will share patients with primary care physicians by using an interdisciplinary, collaborative treatment model and have the opportunity to accrue postdoctoral hours towards CA licensure through clinical supervision by a UCLA faculty member who is a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in interdisciplinary, collaborative treatment models among adolescent and adult populations. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to also participate in weekly didactics and complete a scholarly/quality improvement project by month 9 of fellowship.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar, Drug Discovery for Glioblastoma and other CNS malignancies

The Brain Tumor Drug Discovery Program within the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, is recruiting for a Postdoctoral Scholar to participate in drug discovery for brain tumors.

Candidates are expected to have extensive experience in drug discovery, in particular in areas of DMPK science, with preferred expertise in drug discovery for CNS applications. The candidate is expected to have significant technical and practical knowledge in DMPK, including the design and/or set up of in vitro assays to measure metabolic stability, metabolite ID, permeability and efflux, CYP450 assays, and hERG interactions. Experience working with in vitro kinase assays are also required. Moreover, the candidate should have considerable expertise in in vivo profiling of blood and tissue pharmacokinetics.

The Brain Tumor Drug Discovery Program at UCLA has established an integrated translational science program, bridging biology, molecular diagnostics, and drug discovery exclusively towards the discovery and development of new therapies for malignant brain tumors. This begins with an internationally recognized team of brain tumor investigators with expertise in biology (Nathanson, Bhaduri), clinical trials (Cloughesy), drug discovery and development (Olivero and Jung), bioinformatics (Graeber) and molecular imaging (Ellingson and Czernin). This team has collectively developed multiple clinical drug candidates, including two that are currently in clinical trials for GBM patients, and designed and executed over 100 clinical trials for brain tumor patients. The program also includes a rich and unique resource of comprehensively characterized preclinical brain tumor models (~200 patient derived xenografts and gliomaspheres), state of the art instrumentation (e.g. Mass spectrometers, PET/CT, MRI) and nearly 4, 000 sq ft of total preclinical work space. Finally, the Program and its interdisciplinary team is well funded through both governmental and non-governmental funding sources, including the UCLA Brain Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE).

We are seeking an experienced Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. for a post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Grace Aldrovandi, M.D., CM. Dr. Aldrovandi is known for her studies of breast milk transmission of HIV-1, the virologic differences in HIV-1 transmitted via breast milk versus in utero transmission, HIV-1 pathogenesis, drug-resistance, and the long-term metabolic and immunologic consequences of HIV-1 infection. While continuing to probe the above areas of HIV-1, Dr. Aldrovandi investigates the microbiome and its influence on infant immune development and on the pathogenesis and transmission of HIV-1 in healthy, HIV-exposed and HIV-infected infants as well pregnant and post-partum women. Furthermore, many of Dr. Aldrovandi’s studies include multi-omic investigations integrating data from the microbiome, proteome, and metabolome.
As a specialist in Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Dr. Aldrovandi also explores new and emerging pediatric pathogens. During the pandemic, her laboratory has focused on investigations of SARS-CoV-2 and became CLIA-certified for these investigations.
