PhD position summary/title:  PhD scholarship in Electrocatalyst Development for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel cells and Electrolyzers – DTU Energy

Do you crave to study electrocatalysis and contribute to developing fuel cells and electrolyzers for a sustainable future? Do you enjoy working in an international dynamic setting and wish to participate in an EU-funded project and have the opportunity to collaborate with partners from nine research institutions across Europe? This PhD position is for you. Hydrogen has emerged as a clean, flexible energy carrier for use as industrial feedstock, in generating power and heat, and in transportation. PhD position summary/title:  PhD scholarship in Characterizing Listener Behaviour in Complex Dynamic Scenes – DTU Health Tech

The current project will explore listener behavior in environments with varying degrees of complexity and dynamics. Specifically, listeners will be monitored continuously using various sensors, such as motion and eye trackers, to record body and head-movement trajectories, as well as eye-gaze throughout the experimental tasks. The underlying hypothesis is that difficulties in analyzing and processing a scene will be reflected in the tracked measures and that comparing behavior across different scenes will help pinpoint which aspects of the scenes pose challenges for the listener. This will help to differentiate listener behavior and performance as a function of a given user’s ‘auditory profile’ and as a function of the scene complexity. Furthermore, this grouping and characterization will support the selection of appropriate ‘scene and profile aware’ compensation strategies tailored to the individual listener and scene.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Scholarship in T Cell Receptor Immunoinformatics – DTU Health Tech

The Section of Bioinformatics, DTU Health Tech is world leading within Immunoinformatics and Machine-Learning. Currently, we are seeking a highly talented and motivated PhD student within the field of T cell receptor Immunoinformatics. T cells form the cornerstone of adaptive immunity. T cell receptors (TCR) scrutinize the surface of cells for foreign peptides (epitope) presented in complex with MHC (Major histocompatibility complex) molecules. Identifying the rules defining the interaction of TCRs with their cognate pMHC target is thus at the foundation for our understanding of adaptive immunity and server as the basics for the development of novel vaccines and immune therapeutics.

PhD position summary/title: PhD Scholarships in Extragalactic Astronomy at the Cosmic Dawn Center – DTU Space

The PhD fellowships will be in observational astrophysics with the focus on galaxy evolution. One of the PhD fellowships will focus on characterising the properties of the most actively star-forming galaxies population in the history of the Universe: starburst galaxies. These dust-rich galaxies form stars 10-100 times faster than the Milky Way, and have (since their discovery in the 1990’s) been difficult for simulation to reproduce. Their exact role in the galaxy evolution models is therefore still unknown. By characterising their physical properties (i.e. sizes, shapes and masses) using multi-wavelengths observations from e-MERLIN, VLA and JWST (radio to near-infrared), this project will provide key information in order to answer one of the big outstanding questions: what drives the star-formation in starburst galaxies.

PhD position summary/title:  PhD scholarship in advanced antibody discovery technologies – DTU Bioengineering

The Center for Antibody Technologies is committed to making a difference in the world by tackling Neglected Tropical Diseases. Each year, 150,000 people lose their lives to snakebite envenoming, while another 400,000 are left with life-changing injuries. Existing treatments based on polyclonal antibodies derived from the blood of immunized animals are scarce and have a number of drawbacks, including high cost and a propensity to elicit adverse reactions due to their immunogenic disposition. Therefore, scientific and technological advancement is highly warranted and may enable the introduction of improved therapies for snakebite victims living in impoverished rural areas worldwide!

PhD position summary/title:  PhD Scholarships in multidomain exposure in the indoor environment – DTU Sustain

The first PhD project aims to advance the knowledge of how human cognitive performance is affected by multisensory activation and whether it improves or reduces performance. In some cases, the combined responses can exacerbate the negative effect on cognitive performance. In other cases, the positive effect of one domain can alleviate the negative effect of other domains, and there is no effect or negative effect. The project will seek the optimum combination of different domains for maximizing the performance of different cognitive tasks, office work, and learning

The second project will investigate the interplay between billing schemes, price, health-related signals, and occupants’ perceptions. Studies have demonstrated that billing schemes (e.g., whether the heating bill is a part of the rent or based on heat meters) strongly affect the indoor environment and associated energy use in residential buildings. Utility companies are investigating the consequences of storing energy in buildings, e.g., by reducing heating set-points in periods with high demand and scarce renewable supply. However, little is known about how residents will respond to this or how information about utility overrides or health-related information will affect residents’ acceptability of indoor environmental conditions. The project will investigate how energy price signals, health-related information, and other contextual factors influence occupants’ perception, acceptability, and comfort.

PhD position summary/title:  PhD scholarship in Intracellular Quantum Sensing – DTU Health Tech

Our research is interdisciplinary, and part of a 7-year research project “Intracellular mechanics and diamond-based sensing” funded by the Danish Research Councils and the Novo Nordisk Foundation. A collaboration between researchers at DTU Health Tech and DTU Physics as well as international partners provides the scientific environment. The overall vision of the project is to develop methods that can monitor intracellular life: We will use the quantum mechanical properties of colour centres inside nanodiamonds to develop sensing protocols that can monitor intracellular processes and ultimately as basis for intracellular NMR. At the same time, we will use the nanodiamonds as probe particles for optical trapping and thereby measure intracellular viscosity and elasticity. Further, we aim to investigate single cells, initially from the immune system, using these nanodiamond sensors.

PhD position summary/title:  PhD scholarship in Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells – DTU Energy

Displacement of fossil fuels by renewable energy (RE) is a global issue with inherent challenges of balancing electricity supply and demand. Solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs) can convert electricity from RE sources into hydrogen, CO or methane and hence contribute to an excess electricity offtake. The produced gas can be converted into liquid hydrocarbon fuels for the transportation sector or chemicals for high value markets, or converted back to electricity at peak demand and hereby reduce carbon footprint. At DTU Energy we have been carrying out R&D in sustainable energy conversion technologies and especially solid oxide electrolysis cells for many years and we are among the world’s leaders in research and development in this area. We have excellent facilities and competences for fabrication, modeling, testing and characterization of devices.
