A significant barrier to reaping the benefits of predictive and generative AI is their unassessed potential for harms. Hence, AI auditing has become imperative, in line with existing and impending regulatory frameworks. Yet, AI auditing has been haphazard, unsystematic, and left solely in the hands of experts. This project investigates how to enable individual and collective participatory auditing of current and future AI technologies so that diverse stakeholders beyond AI experts can be involved in auditing their harms. Our research will systematically investigate stakeholders’ needs for and notions of fairness and harms to create auditing workbenches comprising novel user interfaces, algorithms and privacy-preserving mechanisms that help stakeholders to perform audits whilst guarding against unintended negative effects or abuse by malicious actors.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate in CAR-T Cell Immunometabolism
This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research associate to join our interdisciplinary team to study the role of co-stimulatory domains in the regulation of therapeutic (chimeric antigen receptor) CAR T cells. The aim of this MRC funded project is to improve adoptive cell therapy by specifically modulating the metabolism and therefore function of CAR-T cells.
Cancer immunotherapy using adoptive transfer of CAR T cells lies at the forefront of emerging therapeutic strategies and has achieved unprecedented success in the treatment of relapsed/refractory haematological malignancies. However, only half of the patients currently treated achieve a complete response and unfortunately success has not yet translated to the treatment of solid tumours. Challenges to success include the development of T cell exhaustion.
Building on our findings that metabolic programming is vital for supporting CAR-T cell effector function we will profile CAR-T cell metabolic and functional features in a cohort of patients treated with different CAR-constructs to develop strategies for enhancing CAR T cell efficacy.
We are looking for a highly self-motivated and positive individual, who is enthusiastic about fundamental and translational research and thrives working in a team. You will bring previous experience in cellular immunology, preferably in T cell immunology and a good understanding of cellular metabolic pathways, with some practical experience of techniques to investigate these, which could include metabolic flux analysis, carbon tracing, metabolomics and others. You are enthusiastic about advanced therapies, and thus have acquired insight into CAR-T cell therapies either as part of your previous research or through self-directed learning.
Deadline : 26 August 2024.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Clinical Psychologist
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new Wellcome Trust funded Discovery Award to examine prediction of clinical outcome. A key psychological mechanism that maintains anxiety is the tendency to generate negative interpretations of unclear or ambiguous information (known as interpretation bias). We have developed a novel online intervention using cognitive bias modification of interpretations (CBM-I) to ‘train’ people with anxiety problems to develop a more helpful cognitive bias to generate positive interpretations, which effectively reduces anxiety and depression. This low-intensity intervention is straightforward, accessible and can be offered at scale. In the current project we will use cognitive, genetic, clinical and demographic information to predict clinical outcome at the end of the CBM-I intervention and at follow up. This is something people with lived of anxiety have told us that they would like, to help inform their decisions selecting a treatment option.

About King’s College London, United Kingdom – Official Website
King’s College London (informally King’s or KCL) is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom, and a founding college and member institution of the federal University of London. King’s was established in 1829 by King George IV and Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, when it received its first royal charter (as a university college), and is one of the oldest universities in England. In 1836, King’s became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London. In the late 20th century, King’s grew through a series of mergers, including with Queen Elizabeth College and Chelsea College of Science and Technology (in 1985), the Institute of Psychiatry (in 1997), the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery (in 1998).
King’s has five campuses: its historic Strand Campus in central London, three other Thames-side campuses (Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo) nearby and one in Denmark Hill in south London. It also has a presence in Shrivenham for its professional military education and in Newquay, Cornwall, where its information service centre is based. In 2019/20, King’s had a total income of £964.3 million, of which £200.5 million was from research grants and contracts. It has the fourth largest endowment of any university in the United Kingdom, and the largest of any in London. It is the 12th largest university in the United Kingdom by total enrolment. Its academic activities are organised into nine faculties, which are subdivided into numerous departments, centres, and research divisions.
It is a member of academic organisations including the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, and the Russell Group. King’s is home to six Medical Research Council centres and is a founding member of the King’s Health Partners academic health sciences centre, Francis Crick Institute and MedCity. It is the largest European centre for graduate and post-graduate medical teaching and biomedical research, by number of students, and includes the world’s first nursing school, the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery. King’s is at times regarded as part of the “golden triangle” of universities located in the cities of Oxford, Cambridge and London.
