PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Security for multi-agent learning.

In this project we aim at developing an understanding of the vulnerabilities of multi-agent networked systems and their impact, through addressing fundamental problems related to finding equilibria and equilibrium performance under adversarial behavior. We will develop models of the interaction between adversarial and benign autonomous nodes, and will develop computationally tractable game theoretical models for analyzing various learning algorithms and the emergence of equilibria in the presence of adversarial behavior. Finally, we will use the developed models for the design of topologies and learning algorithms that are resilient to adversarial behavior and allow to reach good equilibrium performance.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Fluid mechanics applied in climate modelling

The role of the wind turning over the turbulent atmospheric boundary layer results from a combination of the Earth’s rotation and boundary-layer characteristics and is not fully understood neither theoretically nor from observations. Whenever the flow is curved, this turning angle results in large scale vertical motions, known as Ekman pumping, that allows the effects of turbulence to act at scales many orders of magnitude larger than the boundary-layer depth. In this work, observations, theory, simple turbulence models and Large-Eddy simulations will be combined to further the understanding of the wind turning with the aim to improve weather and climate models.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in life cycle analysis for stationary battery systems

Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) in stationary energy storage systems (SESS) are a core solution to support the grid in response to the increasing trends for electrification, decentralization and integration of renewables. SESS can be seen as a near-term enabler of the climate agenda in Sweden, and globally. However, the environmental impact resulting from the use of LIB in SESS has not been broadly studied, and there is a lack of common methodologies and standards for applying replicable life-cycle analyses (LCA) for the specific SESS applications, leading to inconsistent and unreliable results or conclusions. The aim of this PhD project is to develop, verify and assess a new cradle-to-grave LCA methodology tailored for environmental impact assessment of SESS, including steps tailored to the specific SESS use-stages and end-of-life alternatives (e.g. recycling).

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in modeling of distributed energy resources

This project aims to develop a new standard for dimensioning and operating electrical grids with regards to a high integration of these distributed energy resources in the system. For this, load flow analysis will be conducted at different voltage levels of the network in order to quantify the effect that charging strategies, user demand and interactions have on the coincident load factors of the network. About KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden – Official Website

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, abbreviated KTH, is a public research university in Stockholm, Sweden. KTH conducts research and education within engineering and technology, and is Sweden’s largest technical university. Currently, KTH consists of five schools with four campuses in and around Stockholm.

KTH was established in 1827 as Teknologiska Institutet (Institute of Technology), and had its roots in Mekaniska skolan (School of Mechanics) that was established in 1798 in Stockholm. But the origin of KTH dates back to the predecessor to Mekaniska skolan, the Laboratorium Mechanicum, which was established in 1697 by Swedish scientist and innovator Christopher Polhem. Laboratorium Mechanicum combined education technology, a laboratory and an exhibition space for innovations. In 1877 KTH received its current name, Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (KTH Royal Institute of Technology). The King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf is the High Protector of KTH.

KTH is the highest ranked technical university in Sweden. It is ranked top 100 in the world among all universities in the 2020 QS World University Rankings.
