Postdoctoral Research Associate in inorganic chemistry working on the EPSRC funded project entitled ‘The development of multi-metallic low oxidation state main-group compounds’ in the group of Dr Clare Bakewell, Department of Chemistry, King’s College London. Multi-metallic low oxidation state compounds have the potential to transform main-group chemistry, elevating stoichiometric reactivity to catalytic processes that rival transition metal systems. This project pursues this aim through the systematic development of new multi-metallic complexes and detailed understanding of their structure and reactivity. This will involve developing new multi-metallic low oxidation state main-group compounds, with unprecedented structure and bonding. These innovative compounds will lead to novel reactivity benefitting from the synergistic and cooperative behaviour of multi-metallic complexes, building towards the creation of catalytic redox reactivity that exploits the abundance, cost effectiveness and the environmental impact of main-group elements. Research in the Bakewell group is centred around the synthesis and reactivity of main-group organometallic compounds in unusual oxidation states, therefore a strong back ground in synthetic inorganic chemistry is essential – applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry, in an area related to the themes described above (or be very close to completion at time of application).

The King’s Sanctuary Hub is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to shape and develop its research on forced migration and Higher Education. This is a research post aiming to assist Professor So in the design and expediting of his research projects for publication of academic papers and securing of grants. The purpose of this post is to develop and expedite projects aimed at characterizing DDR response, replication stress and epigenetic networks in leukemia using newly developed disease models in the lab.  Transcription factors and their associated epigenetic modifying enzymes are frequently deregulated or even mutated in human acute myeloid leukemia (Zeisig et al., 2012, Cancer Cell).  Over the years, our lab has focused on characterization of key transcriptional/epigenetic networks and their emerging crosstalk with DNA damage repair (DDR) mechanisms critical for leukemia development (Kwok et al., 2006, Cancer Cell; Zeisig et al., 2007, Cancer Cell; Cheung et al., 2007, Nat Cell Biology; Arteaga et al., 2013, Cancer Cell; Esposito et al., 2015, Nature Medicine; Cheung et al., 2016, Cancer Cell; Luo et al., 2019, Cancer Cell; Zeisig et al., 2021 Science Translational Medicine, Luo et al., 2022, Molecular Cell). The candidate will lead projects aiming to characterize novel crosstalk between DDR, replication stress, transcription-replication conflicts, and epigenetic mechanisms in establishment and treatment of leukemia.  The initial contract is for 3 years but is renewable subject to the progress of the projects.  Candidates are expected to have strong background and relevant publications in areas of DDR, DNA replication, epigenetic gene regulation and/or cancer biology.

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to join the Kostadinov Laboratory (https://www.dkneurolab.com/) in the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology at King’s College London, a leading research centre located in the heart of London that is dedicated to studying the development and function of the nervous system. The post offers an exciting opportunity to gain new insights into how the cerebellum collaborates with the forebrain in the execution of both sensorimotor and cognitive behaviours. The successful applicant should have a PhD in Neuroscience or a related subject (candidates close to completing their PhD are also encouraged to apply). They will lead a research program aiming to map the organizational logic of connections between the cerebellum and motor regions of the neocortex and basal ganglia, uncover shared activity patterns in these long-range circuits, and define causal contributions of the cerebellar activity patterns and wiring to computations in partner regions and to behaviour. Expertise in rodent behavioural training, electrophysiology or calcium imaging, optogenetics, and analysis of neurophysiological data are desirable.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain and develop research skills. The successful candidate will play a key role in innovative studies investigating new approaches to understanding and treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. They will join Prof Oliver Howes’ research group. This is based at the Institute of Psychiatry and Institute of Medical Sciences, two of the leading clinical research centres in the world, but also involves travel to other sites. The studies involve subject recruitment and collection of clinical, multimodal neuroimaging and other data in patients. The projects include a clinical trial of novel treatment approaches for treatment resistance, and its mechanisms, and investigating the synaptic and glutamate hypotheses of schizophrenia and the role of oxidative stress in mental disorders (supervised by Dr Katie Beck). The post-holder will have opportunities to get involved in data acquisition and analysis and develop their research interests within the projects. Training in research methods will be provided, and the post-holder will develop skills in using gold-standard diagnostic and clinical ratings, which will be useful for future research and clinical practice.  Working closely with the Lead Investigators, the successful candidate will ensure the successful conduct and completion of the research programme. He/she will contribute to the collection and analysis of data and play a key role in the assessment and monitoring of patients, which will constitute clinical sessions and may count towards training. He/she will also work closely with other research staff in the project and foster effective collaborative working relationships with the local early intervention services for psychosis. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge research in computational pathology and biomedical image analysis. We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and collaborative biologist to join Dr Witney’s Group in the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King’s College London. You will join a dynamic and successful molecular imaging Team with access to both cutting-edge instrumentation for preclinical imaging and world-renowned expertise. Together, we are developing next-generation whole-body imaging tools for cancer diagnosis, monitoring of therapeutic response, and detection of drug resistance (see www.witneylab.com for more details).  Working in collaboration with medicinal chemists and radiochemists, the successful candidate will use radionuclide-based molecular imaging and radionuclide therapy for the detection and treatment of drug-resistant cancer (‘theranostics’). We have successfully developed a library of theranostic agents that selectively target biomarkers of treatment failure. You will lead the biological evaluation for one of our theranostics programmes using a range of advanced mouse models of cancer (syngeneic, genetically engineered and patient-derived). The project will use molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and enzyme assays to further characterise these agents and understand their mechanism of action. You will further optimise radionuclide therapy scheduling to exploit the vulnerabilities of drug-resistant cancer. This exciting role is based with the world-renowned Genes & Health research programme, investigating health and disease in British Bangladeshis and Pakistanis. You will perform research in a prestigious award from the Medical Research Council, designating us a Longitudinal Population Study, in which KCL is leading on mental health and cognition assessments of >25,000 participants. This project needs a motivated, ambitious researcher to work on an exciting body of research to study the inter-relationships between diet, lifestyle and menopause (funded by the British Menopuase Society). You will be joining the Department of Nutritional Sciences at King’s College London, working in collaboration with ZOE Ltd.  You will first analyse data collected from the ZOE PREDICT cohorts (n=100,000) and ZOE Health Studies (n~450,000) to answer research questions relating to diet and menopause. You will also build on this first phase of data analysis research to design and implement a remote app-based diet-lifestyle-symptom trial.  Strong quantitative research skills and experience in statistical analysis of large datasets using R Studio will be essential. You will need good communication skills and a drive to apply your knowledge and skills to nutrition and health research.  You will have a PhD in nutrition, medical or bioinformatics, epidemiology, public health or data sciences, ideally with a focus on utilising large health datasets and / or nutrition. The menopausal transition is associated with higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk factors, as well as bothersome symptoms including alterations in mood, sleep, diet and other lifestyle factors. However, whether the reported changes associated with menopause are due to hormonal alterations, psychological changes associated with the transition, natural aging, social and behavioural factors of midlife, genetic vulnerability or poor diet has been understudied and warrants further exploration. The ZOE studies, including the ZOE PREDICT cohorts as well as the ZOE Health Study (with almost 5 million individuals based in the UK and the US), provide a unique opportunity to study menopause in association with diet and lifestyle factors at an unprecedented depth, breadth and scale.

King’s Earth Observation and Wildfire Research Group undertake cutting edge research that includes the study of global landscape fire and its role and impact on Earths’ environment and on human health (https://wildfire.geog.kcl.ac.uk/). King’s College London is seeking a quantitative social or behavioural science post-doctoral researcher for their XCEPT project. The qualified applicant will hold a PhD and have extensive experience in inferential statistics in social or behavioural science research. The candidate will ideally have experience in mixed methods behavioural research. They will be expected to take the lead on inferential statistical analyses on large-scale longitudinal psychometric surveys and randomised control trial studies. Demonstrated skills in structural equation modelling, factor analysis, multiple regressions, cluster analysis, mixed effect models, multi-level models, latent class models, and other relevant analyses are required. The researcher will also be heavily involved in project management. They must be London-based or be willing to relocate to London. XCEPT is a FCDO funded multi-partner research project that examines issues related to conflict in fragile and conflict affected states (FCAS). TITAN aims to conduct unique and highly transformative research on the interfaces of classic communication network elements to achieve the seamless, open and fully integrated network of networks. TITAN brings together 17 universities that individually lead research in crucial segments of communication networks and engages with industry to translate research into future products and provide crucial input for the development of new policies. Within TITAN, you will be part of the Optical Wireless Networks Integration lighthouse project. This lighthouse project focuses on optical wireless communication networks across multiple environments and all architectural elements while exploiting the sensing capabilities of optical signals.

Applications are invited from highly motivated candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our ESRC Centre for Society and Mental Health (CSMH,  www.kcl.ac.uk/csmh). The Centre brings together a unique mix of disciplines. Its ethos is to ensure that the social context is recognised as central to how we think about, understand, and respond to mental ill-health. The post will contribute to the successful conduct and completion of the ‘Social Change, Transitions and Young Peoples Mental Health’ programme (co-led by Prof. Craig Morgan & Prof. Helen Fisher) which focuses on investigating trajectories of mental health during the transition from adolescence to adulthood, with a particular focus on coordinating data collection and analysing data from the existing REACH cohort (Resilience, Ethnicity and AdolesCent mental health;  www.thereachstudy.com) which is embedded in the programme.

The post holder will be involved in a multi-site project funded under the EU HORIZON program (via the UKRI guarantee), HAPPYMUMS, which aims to understand, predict, and treat depression in pregnancy to improve mother and offspring mental health outcomes. You will be involved in Concept 3 of this project, to determine the neurobiological mechanisms and peripheral biomarkers by using preclinical models of prenatal stress, specifically in work packages 6 and 7. This will involve the identification of neuroanatomical alterations in relation to the behavioural phenotypes in the offspring exposed to the depressive-like conditions prenatally. All the analyses will be performed in separate groups of male and female animals stratified into vulnerable & resilient to the prenatal manipulations. Structural MRI and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) will be acquired ex vivo from pregnant dams and subsets of vulnerable and resilient offspring, from each rodent model. The models will be generated at consortium partners sites (University of Zurich, University of Milan) and tissue samples will be shipped to KCL for ex vivo MRI in collaboration with the BRAIN centre.

This is an exciting opportunity for a data scientist with experience in cardiovascular signal processing and interests in music to play a key role developing computational techniques to optimise music expressivity to achieve specific cardiovascular aims. The objectives will be to design and implement computational techniques to infer causal relationships between expressive music parameters and surface or intracardiac measurements; and, to re-model the music parameters to achieve targeted physiological responses. The remodelled musical expressions will be rendered through a reproducing piano. The postdoctoral researcher will be working on an EPSRC-funded project investigating the biomechanics of mastication and food item breakdown in malnourished individuals and individuals with eating disorders. Working with a team of psychologists, physiotherapists, and AI specialists, and working with end-users, you will help design and manufacture a device and system to aid malnourished individuals’ build-up their chewing muscles, enabling them to chew and process foods more efficiently during their road to recovery. King’s Earth Observation and Wildfire Research Group (https://wildfire.geog.kcl.ac.uk/), who are based in King’s School of Global Affairs (SGA) wishes to appoint a researcher with expertise in Earth observation to work on the UK Earth Observation Climate Information Service (EOCIS) related to biomass burning and atmospheric emission. There are opportunities to collaborate with researchers within the Earth Observation group in Kings and other researchers of the UK EOCIS. Also, opportunities to be involved with public engagement and science communication as well as themes related to EDI. The researcher will work with multiple sources of remote sensing data from polar-orbiting and geostationary and satellites such as Active Fire, Fire Radiative Power, burned area, trace gas and landcover in order to develop and answer scientific questions about anthropogenic and naturally occurring biomass burning globally. The role will involve blending satellite data, identifying interesting scientific questions, and carrying out analysis of fire-related remote sensing datasets to answer these questions. Experience in large scale datasets analysis (preferably using Python) is essential for this position as well as proven writing skill with record of high-quality peer-review publication.
