The Binghui Shen laboratory has been focusing on DNA replication/repair pathway components, cancer genetics and epigenetics, and cancer etiological and therapeutics modeling. The Nath lab is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in computational cancer biology. Our lab aims to enhance cancer treatment outcomes through two main research areas:

• Investigating the biological mechanisms underlying tumor progression: We use single-cell and bulk multiomic techniques to profile tumor samples, focusing on resistance mechanisms in breast cancer, glioblastomas, colon cancer, and lung cancer.
• Advancing precision oncology through machine-learning models: We integrate multimodal patient data, including multiomic data and health record information, to develop predictive models for drug response. The laboratory of Dr. Heather McGee, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Immuno-Oncology, is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow with experience in immunology, tumor immunology and/or innate immunity. Dr. McGee leads an exciting and dynamic research group at the forefront of studies on the immune response to radiation.

The focus of the lab is to understand how radiation activates tissue resident immune cells in various tumor microenvironments. Their goals are to identify key molecular and immunologic pathways activated by radiation that can be targeted to enhance anti-tumor immunity and/or minimize normal tissue toxicity for gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies. In addition, we have discovered a novel immune-mediated mechanism that contributes to the development of early-onset colorectal cancer and are investigating the epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of this pathway.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the laboratory of Dr. Srividya Swaminathan in the Department of Systems Biology at City of Hope. We study processes within lymphocytes and those outside (in the immune microenvironment) that drive the development of lymphoid malignancies including B- and T- cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and lymphomas. We apply this to develop therapies that specifically target malignant lymphocytes. Research in our lab spans Hematology, Oncology, and Immuno-Oncology. The Postdoctoral Fellow who joins the team will lead a project focused on specifically targeting diseased immune subsets in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and indolent lymphomas. The Fellow will perform experiments using transgenic and transplantation mouse models of lymphoproliferative diseases, primary cells from patients, humanized mice, gene editing, classical molecular, cell biology, and biochemistry, and single cell sequencing approaches. The Fellow will also contribute to other ongoing immuno-oncology projects in the team.

A Postdoctoral Fellowship opportunity is immediately available for the highly motivated individual in the laboratory of Dr. Alberto Pugliese, MD in the AR-DMRI Department of Diabetes Immunology. The research is highly translational and primarily focused on human type 1 diabetes.

The major ongoing projects are investigating miRNA biomarkers, pancreas pathology, and novel therapeutics, also in the context of the analysis of live pancreas tissue from organ donors obtained from the Network for Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD), of which Dr. Pugliese is Executive Co-Director, and in future clinical trials. Upcoming studies are projected to include the analysis of samples from patients with type 1 diabetes participating in clinical trials, with trials expected to start in late 2023 and 2024. Additional studies involve analysis of samples from recipients of pancreas-kidney transplant in the context of recurrent type 1 diabetes.

The John Williams research lab at City of Hope is seeking a Research Associate II. Our research primarily focuses on structural and biophysical methods to identify sources of energy additivity and multivalency in macromolecular complexes and use these properties to develop new tools and novel therapeutics.

This appointment is for a full-time in-person position in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The position is responsible for all protocols specific to the RefleXion linear accelerator. RefleXion is a novel radiation machine that delivers treatment using positron emission tomography (PET) guidance. As it is a new technology and our program is one of the first to have this machine, we expect to have several investigators initiated clinical trials and at least one registry trial on which we will enroll patients.

The role manages an assigned set of multiple research protocols specific to the RefleXion machine to assure efficiency and regulatory compliance of the protocol, attending clinic as needed, with mentorship by experienced staff.  Responsible for compilation, registration and submission of data. Maintains a system for effective data flow associated with research protocols. The position is an in-person appointment, and the expectation is that the clinical research associate would be in the radiation oncology department during general clinic hours to help consent and enroll patients.

Under general supervision of the Principal Investigator, or designee, the Research Associate II (RAII) directs the work of a laboratory or undertakes research projects in collaboration with academic supervisor, making innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory procedures which may not change the course of an investigation but do indicate significant independent contribution beyond the RA I level.

A Research Associate II (RA II) position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Yuman Fong. The Fong laboratory works with Oncolytic viruses. The RA II will directly work on oncolytic virus project, which involves construction of recombinant viruses as well as assessing safety and anti-tumor efficacy of different viral constructs in vitro and in mice. The RA II will perform a variety of research experiments under the guidance of academic supervisor, making innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory procedures. The RA II will typically consult with the academic supervisor on the scope and plan of a research project. The position requires a person to organize and plan techniques and be able to complete assigned experiments in a timely manner.

This position requires experience in both in vitro and in vivo (mouse) models. Commonly used skills in the Fong Laboratory include tissue culture, recombinant virus construction, immune assays, cytotoxic assay, mouse models of cancer, testing safety and anti-tumor efficacy of oncolytic viruses in mouse models.

The Thurmond Lab in the Arthur Riggs Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute, within the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, is looking for a highly motivated and team-science minded Postdoctoral Fellow, to study the molecular mechanisms involved in regulating functional beta cell mass, skeletal muscle insulin action, whole body glucose homeostasis, and healthspan/lifespan. The lab specializes in detailed studies of signaling/trafficking/exocytosis, using primary human and rodent islet cells, skeletal muscle cells and adipocytes.

The position will encompass a variety of techniques, including human islet functional and structural characterizations in vitro and in vivo, biosensors and live-cell imaging, analysis of protein-protein interactions, CRISPR/small interference RNA, post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation/glycosylation/nitrosylation, as well as use of a variety of inducible tissue-specific transgenic and knockout animal models. The trainee will benefit from a close interaction with world-class clinical and basic science faculty and staff, and gain experience in state-of-the-art genomics, molecular genetics, cell biology, and animal model manipulations.

As a member of the Department of Diabetes and Cancer Metabolism, Dr. Shuck’s lab is focused on elucidating the mechanisms linking diabetes and cancer. Her lab utilizes a multi-prong approach using human, mouse, and cell models to determine the role of metabolic alterations in this process. They are also interested in characterizing the role of health disparities on these mechanisms.
