Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Quantum Communications
Are you an experienced and ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in quantum communications? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?
Quantum key distribution (QKD) provides unbreakable, future-proof security against the vulnerabilities of most cryptosystems currently in operation. QKD has been implemented mostly over dedicated channels and between two parties. Before current communication vulnerabilities are exploited, it is essential to facilitate the use of QKD technology for any two users at any distance, via a network. This project addresses the theoretical analysis of quantum communications networks, especially those relying on satellite nodes and/or quantum repeaters.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Structural Biology
We are looking for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow to join our interdisciplinary team that is investigating how proteins aggregate into amyloid fibrils, the link between disease-relevant mutations and post-translational modifications and fibril structure, and how these aggregates perturb cells. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Atmospheric Chemistry
As a Research Fellow in Atmospheric Chemistry you will join a 3-year NERC-funded project to develop and deploy a novel field instrument to make long-term measurements of OH reactivity. OH reactivity represents the total loss rate of OH radicals in the atmosphere, and is the inverse of the chemical lifetime of OH. Since most species emitted into the atmosphere react with OH radicals, measurements of OH reactivity in ambient air provide a means to quantify the presence of pollutants in an air mass, and the extent to which they contribute to the production of secondary pollutants such as ozone and secondary organic aerosol (SOA). OH reactivity can thus be considered to represent the total loading of reactive pollutants in an air mass that oxidise to secondary pollutants.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Cell Biology
This post is available to work as a Research Fellow on a Heart Research UK-funded research project, within the School of Biomedical Sciences. The research aims to extend the repertoire of approaches for disease diagnosis to include the active recovery of protein biomarkers from tissues. It will exploit a method that we have developed which biopsies cells without killing them (Smith et al., 2019, Scientific Reports 9(1):16408). This project will use the new technique to collect proteins from cells early in disease progress, to see if they can be used as ‘biomarkers’ to assess when cells have been changed by disease, and track changes as disease develops. The project will use proteomics data already obtained from a mouse model of diabetes mellitus, sampled using our newly-developed method (application of styrene maleic acid). These data will be built on using samples from human tissue and subsequent protemics analysis.
