The Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Evaluation Studies (HOPES) is the community’s partner and Ohio State University’s home for health policy and health services research. We provide evidence for policies and programs that work to improve health equity. We are seeking a post-doctoral scholar with significant experience in mixed-methods research, health services research, programmatic and policy evaluation, health equity and social justice, and community-engaged/-participatory research. A successful candidate must have team science experience with interest in building and enhancing academic-public partnerships for clinical and public health improvement. The Bumgardner lab provides a unique opportunity for researchers interested in engaging in cutting edge translational immunology research. The Kudryashov lab at The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences invites candidates for two (2) openings for NIH-funded Postdoctoral Scholar positions.

We are looking for skilled and highly motivated postdoctoral scholars with expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, biophysics or related areas to conduct cutting-edge research on several projects focused on the role of actin binding proteins (e.g., plastins) and actin-specific bacterial toxins in the pathogenesis of human hereditary and infectious diseases, and cancer. Two examples of the lab’s priority projects are the recent discoveries of actin processive polymerization at the pointed end by Vibrio toxins (Sci. Adv., 2022) and the allosteric regulation of actin bundling proteins plastins (NSMB, 2022). Both, plastin and toxin projects relate to the mechanotransduction/mechanosensing properties of the actin cytoskeleton. Therefore, candidates with interests in mechanobiology are particularly welcomed. The Research Associate 1 position will participate in the planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in the Vilgelm laboratory investigating cancer within the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of laboratory staff to assist in conducting research studies focusing on cancer immunology. This research aims to uncover the mechanisms exploited by tumor cells to evade the immune system and use this information to design therapies boosting anti-tumor immunity. Dr. Vladi Karniychuk’s laboratory at the Department of Veterinary Biosciences, is seeking a highly-motivated and dedicated to the profession postdoctoral scholar to conduct scientific research in virology. Increasing CpG dinucleotide numbers in RNA viral genomes, while preserving the original amino acid composition of encoded proteins, is a cutting-edge approach for live vaccines. CpG-recoded viruses evoke impaired infection which does not cause disease. Beneficially, this impaired infection leads to robust antiviral host immunity. Our lab developed several CpG-enriched Zika virus vaccine candidates and demonstrated safety and protective efficacy in neonatal and adult mouse models and during mouse pregnancy [Trus et al. Methods Mol Biol, 2022; Udenze et al. Frontiers in Immunology, 2022; Trus et al. Frontiers in Immunology, 2020]. In addition to vaccine studies, we were the first to demonstrate the oncolytic potential of CpG-enriched RNA viruses. Specifically, we showed that Zika virus variants with increased genomic CpG content have reduced infection in healthy brain cells but high virulence in glioblastoma stem cells—stem cells that can self-renew and initiate the growth of glioblastoma, the most aggressive type of cancers [Trus et al., Viruses, 2020]. A postdoctoral fellow on the current project will study how the CpG dinucleotide content in viral RNA affects interactions with cellular proteins and immune responses. This will help to develop a better CpG enrichment approach for vaccines and oncolytics, and contribute new fundamental knowledge on viral genome biology. The project employs a range of molecular biological and virology approaches, cell culture, immunoprecipitation, and proteomics. A particularly ambitious and productive postdoctoral scholar will also have an opportunity to contribute to our flavivirus pathogenesis studies. We work on Zika virus and Japanese encephalitis virus pathogenesis in the pregnant host, and our pathogenesis studies were published in well-recognized journals [PLOS Pathogens, PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, Emerging Microbes and Infections, Virulence, EBioMedicine]. The candidate will be expected to conduct research, provide technical assistance to the PI, and help with student training. Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills are expected.

We are seeking a post doctoral scholar with significant experience in bioinformatics with demonstrated machine learning and predictive modeling expertise. Additionally, a successful candidate must have an interest in academic administration, leadership, undergraduate education, and/or trainee recruitment and retention. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a strong interest and commitment to participating in diversity, equity, and inclusion activities within academia. This is a full-time, 2-year position with possibilities for extension. The successful candidate will be working (at least 75% of the time) with the Insect-Microbial Symbiosis Lab (IMSL) in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology at The Ohio State University. IMSL is interested in using machine learning and predictive modeling to identify microbial features (i.e., species, functions, and products) that are essential for normal animal growth and development and then testing these predictions in a live, germ-free/gnotobiotic model invertebrate.

Two postdoctoral positions are available in Dr. Jian-Qiu Wu’s laboratory at Department of Molecular Genetics, The Ohio State University (OSU). The positions are funded by National Institutes of Health. The Wu lab studies molecular mechanisms of cytokinesis and related cellular processes in the fission yeast S. pombe using complementary molecular, cellular, biochemical, genetic, microscopic (confocal, super-resolution, and electron microscopy), and computational approaches. Multiple postdoctoral positions are available.  We seek highly motivated and productive individuals with experience in production, handling, and characterization of nucleic acids or proteins.  An interest in learning native mass spectrometry, or past experience with native mass spectrometry, general mass spectrometry, or mass spectrometry instrument development, is desired. A candidate should have excellent communication and writing skills and be highly interested in working on their own project, yet also be able to multitask to work with graduate students on multiple projects and to develop advanced methods for native mass spectrometry. The Wysocki group works as a team and the group dynamics are excellent. In the posted role, the postdoc will carry out comprehensive laboratory experiments, including biochemical sample preparation methods and diverse native mass spectrometry and related measurements, as well as have the potential for applying computational and theoretical methods for data interpretation and predictive experimental design. The postdoc will be responsible for collecting data, operating and/or adapting the mass spectrometers, interpretation of data, and writing up results. It is the expectation that the postdoc will publish at least one to two papers annually as first author. In summary, the postdoc will prepare research results for publication in reports, papers, journals, books, and other media, and prepare and deliver seminars, talks or lectures for dissemination of knowledge, particularly the results of research undertaken.
