New Post Doctoral Scholar position is available in the Division of Medical Oncology at the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center to examine cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurocognitive injury related to cancer therapeutics including radiation and drugs. Dietary factors (e.g. alcohol and phytochemicals) or pharmaceuticals that can be used to prevent neurodegenerative injury will be studied in vitro and in rodent models. Efforts focus on the brain microenvironment, the role of communication among cell types, including the role of extracellular vesicles in modulation of inflammation, microglia activation, neurodegeneration and myelination /demyelination in health and disease models. The primary focus is on targeting glia pathogenic mechanisms including identification of microglia activation status and phenotypes, evaluating oligodendrocyte lineage cell function (proliferation, differentiation, and cell death/apoptosis). Demonstrates an ability read and interpret the scientific literature; works well on team science, takes initiative to develop new experimental plans, develops and implements new laboratory methods.   Analyzes data for submission of reports/abstracts/publications, assists with grant preparations as needed; prepares data to discuss in lab meetings and scientific conferences. A Post Doctoral Scholar position is available in the Kroetz laboratory to study the molecular mechanisms of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The fellow is expected to design and execute studies and analyze data, with guidance from the PI. The studies involve the use of an induced pluripotent stem cell derived model of sensory neurotoxicity, high content imaging, and molecular and biochemical assays of gene and protein function. Required Education: Candidate must have a PhD in pharmacology, neuroscience or a related field. Post-Doctoral Scholar – The Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James (OSUCCC-James) is seeking outstanding applicants for the Post-Doctoral Scholar positions. Under the mentorship of Dr. Qin Ma, the Post-Doctoral Scholar will join the Immuno-Oncology Informatics Group (IOIG) of PIIO and implement bioinformatics and AI analyses for various immuno-oncology studies, by closely collaborating with researchers in PIIO and the OSUCCC-James. Our laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scholar to pursue postgraduate training under the guidance of Dr. Regan Memmott, MD, PhD, a physician-scientist and thoracic oncologist, and member of the Translational Therapeutics Program within the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University. Dr. Memmott leads a translational research program that identifies mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for lung cancer and develops therapeutic strategies to overcome these mechanisms. Our laboratory incorporates basic and translational techniques using cell culture and mouse models of lung cancer, as well as clinical sample analysis. Preclinical studies conducted by our group have led to the development of an investigator-initiated trial in patients evaluating a novel drug combination for the treatment of EGFR-mutant lung cancer. We are also investigating the molecular mechanisms that promote an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) in lung cancers driven by certain driver mutations, and how to target these mechanisms to improve the immunocompetency of the TME. Candidates are encouraged to pursue their interests related to the development of drugs that target cellular signaling pathways and immuno-oncology under the mentorship of Dr. Memmott. Opportunities to be involved in the development of clinical trial protocols and correlative studies are also available. 

The Postdoctoral Scholar will conduct research on the interactions between plants, pollinators, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. This work includes field and laboratory research. The scholar is responsible for planning research, data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation. A full-time Postdoctoral Researcher will be hired to dedicate 12 months each year (100% effort) to the Crane Center. A full time research assistant (1.0 FTE) position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Herson, Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery. The research of the laboratory investigates the mechanisms of neuronal injury and repair following cerebral ischemia. This research assistant position will provide support for ongoing research. The applicant will be responsible for on-boarding and developmental training of new staff with the utilization of performing small animal surgery on a daily basis, performing experimental stroke and CA/CPR studies for independent projects as well as producing experimental animals for ongoing research. The position will be responsible for design, execution and management of research project as well as assist in the preparation of research manuscript and preparation of presentations at national and international conference/workshops. Specific ongoing projects the applicant will participate in include the effects of age and gender on brain injury following experimental stroke and the role of novel therapeutic interventions to enhance functional recovery. The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Neuroscience or related field and experience with animal handling and surgeries is desirable, but not essential. The position will work in a collaborative team environment, while being expected to be a self-motivated investigator who can manage their time efficiently.  The position will assume some management roles within the laboratory, in particular management of mouse colony, ordering and oversight of undergraduate researchers.

The Emerging Infectious Disease Ecology Laboratory seeks an experienced and motivated Research Associate 1 to work in the Department of Plant Pathology at The Ohio State University. The lab uses multiple model systems and aims to uncover properties that allow complex biological processes to occur reproducibly. The Research Associate will perform standard laboratory techniques using plant, bacterial and fungal material. The successful candidate will have significant experience with molecular biology and biochemical techniques like DNA, RNA, and protein extraction, agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning, etc. This position also requires the propagation of plant seed stocks, preparation of essential research reagents/material, maintenance of lab equipment, maintenance of the lab environment and daily lab operations including cleanup and organization, coordination of undergraduate and graduate student schedules, attends lab meetings, microscopy training and ensures laboratory safety compliance is required and other miscellaneous duties.
