Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Scholar

The Computational Epidemiology Lab in the College of Public Health, The Ohio State University aims to connect data analytics tools and models to action for public health impact. We help communities develop tools and models that reflect their values. This means placing communities at the center of the modeling and analytics enterprise. The focal public health issues that we address are birth and infant outcomes, addiction, food insecurity, and, more recently, the COVID-19 pandemic. Common to these outcomes is the role of social determinants of health, the need for multiple stakeholder engagement, and breaking down discipline and data silos to come up with holistic and sustainable interventions. The Computational Epidemiology Lab seeks a candidate who will lead a community-engagement project to achieve the following purpose: Muslim students and the community at large have equitable access to religiously tailored, culturally relevant, and evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies, providers, and resources on mental health and related outcomes.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Senior Associate

The Research Senior Associate position will support the laboratory of Deliang Guo, PhD, Director of the Center of Cancer Metabolism with the Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University. Dr. Guo’s laboratory focuses on cancer metabolism, signal transduction, autophagy, and miRNA across multiple cancer types, including brain tumors, lung cancer, liver cancer, sarcoma, pancreatic cancer, etc. The research also expands to immune metabolism and collaborates with world-leader in the immune-oncology field. His lab was the first to identify EGFR/PI3K signaling upregulates SREBP-1, a membrane-bound transcription factor with a central role in lipid metabolism to control tumor growth (Guo, et al, PNAS, Science Signaling, 2009, Cancer Discovery 2011, Current Pharma Design 2014). Most recently, his lab further unraveled the underlying molecular mechanism linking EGFR/PI3K signaling and glucose to SREBP-1-regulated lipid metabolism. They found that glucose acting as an indispensable activator promotes SREBP signaling pathway via N-glycosylation modification on SCAP protein (Cheng et al., Cancer Cell, 2015). Moreover, they found lipid droplets and miRNA are actively involved in SREBPs regulation and lipid metabolism in malignancies (Geng, et al., Clinical Cancer Research 2016, and Peng et al., Cell Reports 2016, Xiang, et al., Cell Metabolism 2020).

About The Ohio State University, United States – Official Website

The Ohio State University, commonly Ohio State or OSU, is a public land-grant research university in Columbus, Ohio. The flagship of the University System of Ohio, it is considered a Public Ivy, and has been ranked by major institutional rankings as among the best public universities in the United States. Founded in 1870 as the state’s land-grant university and the ninth university in Ohio with the Morrill Act of 1862, Ohio State was originally known as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College and focused on various agricultural and mechanical disciplines but it developed into a comprehensive university under the direction of then-Governor and later U.S. president Rutherford B. Hayes, and in 1878 the Ohio General Assembly passed a law changing the name to “the Ohio State University” and broadening the scope of the university. Admission standards greatly tightened and became more selective throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

Ohio State’s political science department and faculty have greatly contributed to the construction and development of the constructivist and realist schools of international relations; a 2004 LSE study ranked the program as 1st among a public institution and 4th overall in the world. A member of the Association of American Universities, Ohio State is a leading producer of Fulbright Scholars, and is the only school in North America that offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate degree in welding engineering. The university’s endowment of $5.29 billion in 2020 is among the most in the world. Past and present alumni and faculty include 5 Nobel Prize laureates, 9 Rhodes Scholars, 7 Churchill Scholars, 1 Fields Medalist, 7 Pulitzer Prize winners, 64 Goldwater scholars, 6 U.S. Senators, 15 U.S. Representatives, and 104 Olympic medalists. It is classified among “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity”. As of 2021, Ohio State has the most number of students in the United States who are in the 95th percentile or above on standardized testing of any public university.
