(01) PhD Degree – Fully Funded

PhD position summary/title: Research Associate on Plant Molecular Biology (PhD candidate) § 28 Subsection 1 HmbHG

The position will be filled to work on a PhD research project on membraneless compartments in plant cells that form upon abiotic stress or in plant immunity. Such compartments may contain RNAs and proteins with intrinsic properties (such as prion-like domains) that make them prone to form condensates in a process called liquid liquid phase separation (LLPS). The focus will be on proteins, whose localisation to condensates under certain stress conditions has already been established. By combining methods from biochemistry and molecular genetics with cell-biological techniques such as confocal live cell imaging microscopy and electron microscopy the structure, function, biomolecular interactions and dynamics of these proteins in the context of LLPS will be studied in plant cells. The goal of this project is to uncover novel aspects on formation, dissolution and function of condensates for plant performance and stress response.
