Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Fellow

A postdoctoral fellow position is available immediately at the Tulane University School of Medicine, Department of Medicine – Section of Cardiology to conduct research in skeletal muscle biology. The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Tadashi Yoshida and Dr. Patrice Delafontaine.  The project involves, but is not limited to, studying the changes in skeletal muscle molecular signaling pathways, physiology and function in multiple chronic disease models including cardiovascular disease and cancer.  The position involves both in vitro and in vivo studies.  Experience in both basic molecular biology and in handling rodents is highly desirable. We seek a highly motivated, proactive and collaborative individual. This job involves designing and conducting research projects, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, presenting at national/international conferences and writing manuscripts. The Pl will closely work with the successful candidate for training in all of these aspects, and the candidate will be encouraged to apply for independent postdoctoral fellowship grants within 2 years.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD and/or MD graduate to work in the Cardiovascular research lab in the Tulane University Department of Medicine (New Orleans). The successful candidate will join a NIH-funded project (Pl, Dr. Patrick Delafontaine) to investigate the role of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-1) in atherosclerosis in mice and in a large (porcine) animal model.  The project studies the relation between IGF-1, cell senescence and atherosclerotic disease and will use a loss-of-function murine model, atherosclerotic pigs and explore mechanisms using in vitro studies. The experience in basic molecular biology and in handling rodents are highly desirable. Basic knowledge of vascular biology and recent lab experience are required. The job involves designing and conducting research projects, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, presenting at national/international conferences, and writing manuscripts.  The Pl and research team will closely work with the successful candidate for training in all these aspects, and the candidate will be encouraged to apply for independent postdoctoral fellowship grants.

Multiple postdoctoral positions are available at the Brain Institute of Tulane University to work on the newly funded NIH Project Program Grant (P01) “Estrogens, Cardiometabolic Health, and Female Cognitive Aging”. The grant supports three Cores and four synergistic research Projects across the Tulane Schools of Science & Engineering and Medicine. The broad goal of the research is to determine the impact of cardiometabolic status on the ability of exogenously administered estrogens to benefit the brain and cognition in an aging female rodent model. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow Tropical Medicine

A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is immediately available to join Scaraffia research group in the Department of Tropical Medicine at Tulane University. Scaraffia´s lab performs metabolic studies in mosquitoes. Her laboratory is particularly interested in unraveling the physiological, biochemical and molecular bases underlying the regulation of nitrogen and carbon metabolism in mosquitoes, as well as in discovering new metabolic targets that can be used for the design of better mosquito-control strategies. The successful candidate will apply traditional and modern biochemical approaches, to investigate Aedes aegypti nitrogen and carbon metabolism. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, chemistry, or a related discipline with a strong background in metabolic studies. The position requires documented experience in biochemical techniques including enzymatic assays, western blotting, and immunoprecipitation. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team are also required. TUBRI houses the Royal D. Suttkus Fish Collection and specializes in biodiversity discovery (primarily involving fishes) and biodiversity informatics research. The postdoctoral research position is supported by a NSF Harnessing the Data Revolution Institute grant project entitled, Imageomics: A New Frontier of Biological Information Powered by Knowledge-Guided Machine Learning.  This collaborative, multi-investigator project involves biologists and computer scientists who are applying machine-learning methods to extract phenotypic trait data from images of a variety of types of biological specimens. The learning is aided by structured biological knowledge such as, annotated traits, an anatomy ontology and phylogenetic trees. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to ongoing efforts to extract trait data from images of fish specimens under the mentorship of Henry L. Bart Jr., Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and TUBRI Director, and Dr. Yasin Bakış, TUBRI’s Senior Manager of Biodiversity Informatics and Data Engineering.  The TUBRI postdoc will have opportunities to interact with other biologists, computer scientists, postdocs, and students from the ten other universities and research centers involved in the Imageomics Institute.
