PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Computer Science within WASP Graduate School

As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

You will carry out research supervised by Jendrik Seipp, Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence at LiU.

The research for the advertised position will be within the WASP NEST project ”AI for Attack Identification, Response and Recovery (AIR²)”, where we use AI to enhance cybersecurity. The PhD project will focus on  the subtopic “Learning Interpretable Models for Identifying Attacks and Countermeasures”. Here, we will develop a network hardening loop that learns symbolic AI planning models from data, uses them to identify possible attacks, and modifies the network to prevent them from happening.

The project will involve both theoretical and experimental work.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in computational condensed matter physics

The research area deals with computational materials science combined with analytical method  developments. The focus is on understanding and analyzing hard, refractory alloys for potential industrial applications. Static and dynamical (ab initio, DFT) simulations of the materials will allow you to explore high-temperature thermodynamics and elasticity. The theoretical challenge is to develop a machine learned interatomic potential based approach in exploring the vibrational degrees of freedom (phonons). Your research in the Catalysis and Self-Assembly group will focus on developing fundamental principles for more active and selective heterogeneous catalysts.

Questions that may be explored during your PhD include:

  • How can the location and structure of active sites be probed by innovative methods?
  • How can scaling relations in catalysis be broken for more active catalysts?
