Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Two postdoctoral research associate positions are available in the Multiscale Materials and Manufacturing Laboratory (M3L) at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). This is a joint position between UIC and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) seeking fresh PhDs with expertise in computational materials modeling informed machine learning approach development for high-performance computing (HPC) environment. A Ph.D. in appropriate engineering or physical science discipline closely related to this area of research is required. HPC resources at the UIC and ANL will be utilized for massively parallel simulations and training of generative AI models. Physics-informed machine learning approach will be used to predict material evolution under thermomechanical, electro-thermal, and electrochemical conditions. The position will be annually renewable depending on performance with a strong chance for growth, high-impact publications, and opportunities to interact with academia and national labs.

The Tsukasaki Laboratory, Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, is a research laboratory focused on pulmonary immune dynamics supported by an NIH PO1/RO1 grant.

Our lab seeks to understand the molecular/cellular dynamics of neutrophils, vascular endothelial cells and macrophages in lung inflammatory diseases (e.g., acute respiratory distress syndrome) using lung intravital imaging (Immunity 2024 (PMID: 38091995), Nat Commun. 2023 (PMID: 37852964), ACS nano 2022 (PMID: 35230826), Nat Immunol. 2022 (PMID: 32839607), J Clin Invest. 2020 (PMID: 32298238), Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2019 ( PMID: 31363052), Circ Res. 2017 (PMID: 29217714)). We are also developing a stabilized lung intravital imaging method using computer-vision technique (Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol. 2022 (PMID: 34555309)) and applied it to metabolic imaging and oxygen/reactive oxygen imaging methods in lung tissue.

The Department of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine ranks seventh in the United States in funding in the field of pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences. The department has a full range of common equipment including two-photon/confocal imaging, and is actively engaged in high-level research activities.

Our laboratory is currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated postdoctoral researcher with experience of two-photon imaging using mouse model and molecular/cellular biological experiments in lung biology and . Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Research Associate – Coloff Lab

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Coloff in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Coloff Lab studies the unique metabolic phenotypes found in tumors with the goal of identifying new strategies of targeting metabolism for cancer therapy. Current projects include developing methods of targeting serine metabolism in cancer and understanding how nutrients are utilized by cancer cells to promote therapeutic resistance. We are seeking creative, independent scientists with experience in any area of metabolism research, but those with experience in lipid metabolism are especially encouraged to apply.

The candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in biology or a related field. Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply: 1) strong self-motivation, 2) strong record of first author previous publications in cancer, metabolism, or a related field, 3) the ability to independently plan and execute biochemistry and molecular biology experiments, 4) good written and oral communication skills, 5) the ability to work collaboratively with others, 6) experience in lipid metabolism and/or animal models of cancer or other diseases.

(20) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Visiting Research Associate I

Responsible for delivering the PROTECT program (Preventing Recurrent Operations Targeting Early Childhood Caries Treatment), which is an NIH/NIDCR funded clinical trial with participant families, including 10 sessions over a 6 month period after their child has had dental surgery at UIC. The first session (60 minutes) will take place at the College of Dentistry during the surgery. Remaining sessions will take place over phone or zoom and last about 30 minutes each.

Engage participant families and caregivers over the course of the study to collect follow-up data to determine if families who are participating in the six-month parenting program are changing their child’s health habits: toothbrushing and eating/drinking sugar.

Support participating families in reaching study goals (twice-a-day adult-assisted toothbrushing and decreasing sugar consumption). The incumbent will connect families to any additional necessary resources and will also be responsible for documenting the implementation of the program, while collecting data on participants after each session.

Provide important field observations to the research team while simultaneously receiving feedback from the lead psychologist on balancing the needs of the research program while meeting the needs of participant families.

Maintain accurate data according to study requirements through the RedCap system while maintaining IRB protocols and prepare and clean data as necessary.

Ensure data integrity and disseminate collected information to the appropriate research team members.

Attend mandatory, in-person monthly meetings with the internal PROTECT team and regular meetings with the Principal Investigator, research leaders and research staff at the Institute for Health Research and Policy office.
