The Department of Critical Care Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately x months/year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator. 

The Research Associate’s primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator and support the research team by providing semi-skilled or skilled technical procedures. This may include developing study protocols and study materials, submitting ethics applications, recruiting participants to research projects, tracking project progress, convening diverse groups of knowledge users, and coordinating studies, as appropriate.

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate (Nurse). This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 9 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

The Research Associate will play a critical role in the high level leadership of the research group, working closely with the Principal Investigators, other research assistants in Calgary, Calgary Tuberculosis Clinic Management, Provincial Tuberculosis Director, Edmonton Tuberculosis Clinic, research assistant in Edmonton, and the Alberta tuberculosis pharmacy team, to operationalize, recruit, follow, and report to McGill research group as the primary research team of the CAB-V (Canada, Australia, Benin, and Vietnam) research group and the TB Trials Consortium (CDC – Atlanta). 

The Precision Neurodevelopment Lab (www.pn-lab.ca) at the University of Calgary uses trailblazing precision medicine approaches paired with pragmatism to help children and youth with neurodevelopmental disorders and their families live better everyday lives. We have a unique focus on children and youth who have severe behaviours of concern such as aggression and self-injury. We strive to find answers to unresolved questions rooted in the real-life problems faced by these children and youth through inclusive and equitable research, backed by cutting edge techniques and an implementation-focused approach.

We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow with a strong background in Developmental/Behavioural Pediatrics and patient-oriented research. The successful candidate will join the Precision Neurodevelopment Lab and work alongside diverse research staff, students, and partners with lived experience to understand and improve the everyday lives of neurodiverse children with behaviours of concern and their families. Our lab is proudly inclusive. This position offers the unique opportunity to work on projects within a collaborative research lab embedded in a developmental pediatrics subspecialty clinic. The research-to-clinic pathway strongly supports implementation science-focused projects.

Candidates should hold (or be near completion of) a PhD in neuroscience, pediatrics, medical science, psychology, or a related field within the last 5 years. Applicants should be interested in equity-oriented interdisciplinary research and have experience working with individuals with lived experience of neurodiversity. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to communicate scientific findings in writing and through oral presentations, as well as adapt communications for neurodiverse children and their caregivers.

The Indigenous Perinatal Epidemiology & Data Sovereignty Postdoctoral Program is a two-year, community-embedded research fellowship focused on building Indigenous-governed perinatal data systems that support reproductive sovereignty, maternal-child wellness, and cord-intact care across pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early childhood. This position trains emerging scholars in Indigenous-led epidemiology, not as surveillance, but as relational accountability infrastructure that enabling communities, Nations, and families to reclaim authority over how perinatal data are defined, collected, interpreted, stored, and mobilized.

The Associate will work alongside Elders, Knowledge Keepers, midwives, epidemiologists, community researchers, and health system partners to build culturally grounded, technically rigorous, and politically sovereign perinatal data ecosystems. This postdoc centers three intersecting streams: Indigenous Perinatal Epidemiology: Measurement of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, infant and early childhood outcomes with birthing sovereignty, midwifery access, obstetric evacuation, institutional racism. Indigenous Data Sovereignty & Infrastructure including OCAP®, CARE, FAIR, UNDRIP, distinctions-based data systems with community-owned repositories, governance protocols, ethical analytics. Decolonizing Public Health Practice: by reframing epidemiology, surveillance, evaluation and policy analysis through Indigenous governance frameworks through the development of upstream prevention indicators grounded in relational wellbeing.

Seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow with a strong background in Neuroscience, cell and molecular biology, developmental biology to explore the mechanisms underlying brain development, brain aging and neurological disorders to drive projects for the understanding of the role of primary cilia in the brain. The Department of Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Quantitative Medical Imaging in Aging and Neurodegeneration under the supervision of Richard Frayne, PhD. The position is based in the Vascular Imaging Laboratory (VIL) a component of the Seaman Family MR Research Centre and involves significant engagement with the Calgary Image Processing and Analysis Centre (CIPAC). Both centers are located at the Foothills Medical Centre and adjacent to the School of Medicine.

The successful Postdoctoral Scholar will work on a project entitled ¿Novel MR Imaging Biomarkers for Detecting Early Change in Alzheimer¿s Disease and Related Dementias¿ that is funded by the Alzheimer¿s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories (Hope for Tomorrow Research Competition) and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) at the University of Calgary.

The broad research objective of this project is to investigate the use of normalized population curves of quantitative MR (qMR) measures to identify early markers of risk for cognitive decline and dementia in the aging population. The study will use longitudinal data collected in the Calgary Normative Study over the past decade (McCreary et al., BMJ Open 2020; 10: e038120. doi: 10.1136/bmjopen-2020-038120). Additional data, including from individuals with cognitive impairment will be acquired during this project.

We are seeking a highly qualified postdoctoral researcher to join our team in the Graphics, Interaction and Visualization (GIV) group. The successful applicant will bring strong research expertise and technical depth in areas such as big data processing, advanced computer graphics (including 3D visualization), GPU and parallel programming, geospatial cloud-based databases, and geoinformatics, with a particular focus on GeoAI. Experience with computational techniques, sparse matrix methods, and GPU-accelerated implementations is especially valued.

We are seeking a motivated and hard-working post-doctoral scholar to do a mix of independent research and joint projects with University of Calgary faculty. The postdoctoral scholar will work directly with Dr. Blake Shaffer and Dr. Erica Myers, with the opportunity to collaborate with other faculty as well.

The scholar will have the opportunity to participate in joint research involving field experiments on electricity demand flexibility, with a particular focus on electric vehicle charging and smart thermostats. The scholar would be expected to assist in program development and implementation, and post-experiment analysis and writing.

There may be sessional opportunities to teach in the Department of Economics during the postdoctoral scholar’s tenure in the department if this is of interest to the scholar. This would be on an as available basis and at the option of the scholar. Any teaching would be remunerated as a sessional instructor, in addition to postdoctoral salary.

The primary focus will be on implementation science and its application to pharmacogenetic testing in youth mental health. The successful candidate will lead all evaluation components of the implementation trial, guided by implementation models. They will also contribute to educational material development, EMR/EHR integration activities, and conduct interviews with patients and providers to understand implementation barriers and facilitators. Additional opportunities to contribute may be available depending on candidates¿ interest and expertise.  

The Postdoctoral Scholar will carry out research under the direction and supervision of a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics in the Faculty of Science. The minimum initial annual salary for this Postdoctoral Scholar appointment is $49,000. The annual salary will increase to $51,000 on July 1, 2026, and $53,000 on July 1, 2027. Postdoctoral Scholars in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics can earn additional income by contributing to teaching within the Department. The successful applicant for this Postdoctoral appointment will be expected to concurrently apply for the Sessional Teaching positions posted on Job ID 35984. 

Sessional teaching appointments are compensated separately, in accordance Schedule “B” of the Collective Agreement between the University of Calgary and the Faculty Association of the University of Calgary. The current base salary rate for Sessional appointments is $7,044 per half course equivalent. There are normally two Sessional teaching appointments available to each Postdoctoral Scholar each year.

Under her Canada Excellence Research Chair in photonic quantum science and technologies, Dr. Urbasi Sinha is setting up a state-of-the-art quantum optics lab that will work on different aspects of quantum technologies using photons. It will emphasize strong synergy between application-driven research, which addresses immediate needs, and foundational research, which enables the technologies of the future. 

As a part of this initiative, the successful candidate will develop and conduct linear optics-based quantum information and quantum computing experiments using photons. They will receive a $5,000 CAD research and travel allowance to support such requirements, subject to approval by the Principal Investigator. 

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Medical Genetics in the Cumming School of Medicine  at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Medical Genomics/Bioinformatics.

Here, we are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow with a strong background in genomics/bioinformatics/computational biology to drive development of tools for variant calling and interpretation in individual genomic backgrounds from the perspective of identifying genetic factors that contribute to variable expressivity and reduced penetrance of rare genetic disorders (genetic modifiers/genetic interaction identification).
