We are inviting applications for 2 postdoctoral positions in our laboratory at The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, Department of Neurology & Neuroscience Research Institute. Our lab focusses on axon-glia interactions and on how glial metabolism regulates axon integrity and myelination (e.g., Nature Neuroscience, PMID 32807950; Nature Neuroscience, PMID 25195104; PNAS, PMID 28484008). Examples for current projects are in vivo and in vitro mechanistic studies on how metabolic perturbations in oligodendrocytes result in compromised axon integrity, and research on metabolic adaptations in Schwann cells/oligodendrocytes that support the survival of injured axons. The Post Doctoral Researcher will pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor in the Department of Neurology; plan, design and execute experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the assigned research lab; collect and analyzes data for research sponsored by appropriate agencies and Institutions; identify and select problems to be studied; develop and troubleshoot new experimental techniques and protocols; attend research seminars; contribute to manuscript preparation and support technical writing; participate in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding; perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirement The necessary requirement is a true passion for science and discovery. The ideal candidate should also have at least 1 first-authored publication in press, and have experience working with murine models in a laboratory setting. The successful candidate should hold a PhD in biomedical sciences with less than 3 years of prior post-doctoral experience, be highly motivated, and show good communication skills. Strong language and writing skills are important. Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences required; Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

A Postdoctoral Scholar position is available immediately in the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Sciences and the School of Environment and Natural Resources within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at The Ohio State University (OSU). This USDA-funded project seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to contribute to research focused on agricultural water quality and watershed-scale processes. Primary responsibilities include:

1. Field-based sampling and data collection related to water quality

2. Data analysis and hydrological modeling to evaluate environmental outcomes and ecosystem services The Postdoctoral Scholar will coordinate closely with a collaborative, multi-institutional team of researchers at academic and research institutions. Research Associate to join the Polar and Environmental Geochemistry team in the School of Earth Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences to perform basic research in aqueous geochemistry. Duties include analyzing environmental samples, processing data, uploading data files and metadata to appropriate data repositories, maintaining equipment, and assisting PI with preparing manuscripts for publication. Other responsibilities include collaborating with research staff members and overseeing undergraduate student assistants. The position requires a deployment to McMurdo Station, Antarctica for approximately 6-8 weeks each winter.

The Researcher 3 will perform studies of variation in drug response and toxicity. These include studies of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in iPSC-induced sensory neurons, genetic association studies of adverse drug phenotypes, and studies of membrane transporter function and expression. The position is expected to have a significant degree of independence and will work with the PI and collaborators to determine the direction of studies in the laboratory. They will also be responsible for training new laboratory members and for regulatory compliance.

The research laboratory of Dr. Jenny Wei at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Pharmacy is seeking a full-time postdoctoral scholar in pharmacoepidemiology who is interested in the real-world use, effectiveness, and safety of medications among older adults or patients with cancer. This is a one-year position with an immediate start date and can be extended based on performance for up to three years. The scholar will receive an annual salary based on the NIH salary scale, and the salary will be commensurate with experience.

The scholar will lead and execute research projects under the supervision and mentorship of Dr. Wei. The main responsibilities include writing analytical protocols, analyzing large secondary datasets, developing and implementing research statistical methodologies, drafting research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation, coordinating meetings with external collaborators, and assisting in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research. The scholar also has an opportunity to initiate a pharmacoepidemiologic research project and receive training in grant proposal writing.

The Gardiner Lab in the Department of Entomology at The Ohio State University seeks a postdoctoral researcher. Our laboratory examines the ability of urban green spaces to provide habitat for beneficial insects. This position will focus on analyzing and publishing previously collected data, with additional opportunities to publish reviews and meta-analyses utilizing existing long-term data sets. Our existing data were generated with funding from the USDA and NSF. These projects examine the: 1) value of vacant land as insect habitat, 2) non-target impacts of mosquito treatments on pollinators,  and 3) value of greening front yards for urban bee health.

This position will also focus heavily on mentoring 5 highly skilled PhD students and 4 honors undergraduates with their data analysis as well as written and verbal communication skills, with opportunities for co-authorship.

The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Post Doctoral Scholar position in the laboratory of Dr. Shuai Huang at The Ohio State University. The Huang lab of plant systems immunology focuses on the molecular and biochemical mechanisms of phase-separated assemblies in plant health and disease. There are three main directions of research in the lab: 1) systems approach for a detailed understanding of phase separation control of gene expression; 2) molecular, cellular and biochemical characterization of defense signal flow through membrane-less condensates; 3) bioengineering and synthetic approaches of immune condensates to benefit agriculture and human health. The incumbent participates in developing and implementing study goals and objectives, designs and conducts complex laboratory experiments, and performs advanced molecular, cellular, or other specialized techniques in the field of immunology. Responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, and interpreting research data; assisting in the development and refinement of methodologies, experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical approaches; and establishing appropriate controls, criteria, and research standards. The primary study involves implementation of a combined mHealth-telehealth symptom cluster (sleep, worry-anxiety, fatigue, depression) intervention for people with advanced cancer (1R01CA281885-04A1). This study will also examine immune and hormonal biomarkers that affect symptom clustering. The second involves a brief telehealth intervention with people with pancreatic cancer. The Research Senior Associate will assist and support the center for antibody therapeutics (CAT) at the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) under direct supervision of Dr. Zhiwei Hu, Managing Director of the PIIO CAT at the OSUCCC – James. Research Senior Associate will participate in planning, executing, and analyzing translational cancer research with focus on antibodies/proteins, antibody drug conjugates, bispecific antibodies, antibody-based CAR-NK and CAR-T cell immunotherapy using advanced molecular, cellular and antibody-based techniques.

The Blair lab focuses on novel immunotherapeutics for pancreatic adenocarcinoma with a particular interest in innate immunity, STING signaling, synergistic effects of radiation and the plasticity of tumor stroma. We focus on rational combinations of agents that target the tumor microenvironment to increase effector immune cell infiltration and tumor-eradicating function. The lab focuses on preclinical mouse models, but supplements this with in vitro cell work to understand changes in signaling and expression, as well as analysis of treated human tissue from clinical trials leveraging our robust tissue biobank. Long term goals are to expand the clinical trial opportunities at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Our current projects center around leveraging a novel nanoparticle agent that targets the STING pathway to up regulate an otherwise dampened immune response in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
