(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in quantum optomechanics with polaritons
The project aims to reach the quantum regime of optomechanics with polaritons by utilizing GaAs/AlAs-based microcavities with embedded quantum wells with applications in quantum transduction between microwave and optical frequencies. These unconventional optomechanical systems exhibit a unique “magic coincidence” of their phonon and polariton properties allowing for the simultaneous trapping of light and sound within the same high-Q cavity, and resulting in extremely high optomechanical interaction for the polaritons and mechanical modes in GHz range. The project is carried out in close collaboration with our partners providing access to complementary expertise and device know-how.
Deadline : 1.8.2026
(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Contested Waterfront Developments (ConWa)-project
Are you an academically driven researcher who wants to publish high-quality work on how housing and land policy shape social inclision in cities?
We are now looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Research Council of Finland funded Contested Waterfront Developments (ConWa)-project at Aalto University’s Department of Architecture, led by Senior Scientist Johanna Lilius. In this position, you will investigate how social inclusion is negotiated and transformed in European waterfront developments amid the financialization of land and real estate.
Deadline : 3.8.2026
(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researchers in AI-driven atomistic modeling and AI-accelerated cheminformatics
The positions to be filled are part of a new project funded by Business Finland, “Materials AI for accelerated industrial R&D”, carried out in collaboration with leading companies in the chemistry and materials fields, as well as the Finnish national supercomputing center, CSC. In-house collaborations with experimentalists are also included in the project. The project is led by Prof. Miguel Caro (PI), Prof. Antti Karttunen, and Prof. Kari Laasonen, who will supervise the postdoc positions advertised here.
We are seeking candidates with expertise in one or more of these areas:
Machine-learning interatomic potentials;
High-throughput automated workflows for atomistic simulations;
Atomistic modeling of the structure of materials;
Simulation of molecular diffusion and molecular interactions with surfaces and/or nanoporous media;
Atomistic simulation of chemical reactions and/or thin-film growth;
Data-driven cheminformatics for molecular modeling and/or design;
Molecular dynamics simulations.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Social Science
Your primary goal in this position will be to do excellent research at the borderland of behavioral, social, and computer science, both in collaboration with the Aalto team and within your existing professional network. We aim to continue publishing in top international interdisciplinary or social science venues. In addition to research work, persons hired are expected to participate in teaching in accordance with the department’s standard practices.
Deadline : 17.8.2026
(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher in quantum algorithms and optimization for Life Science applications
Your primary task as a postdoctoral researcher is to conduct research in quantum algorithms and quantum information. You are expected to take an active role in advancing the MQS group’s research projects.
Our recent work has focused on the theory and applications of quantum walk algorithms, variational quantum algorithms and their optimization, adiabatic quantum computation, and quantum machine learning. Theoretical and applied research into the capabilities of quantum computing and quantum advantage is a prospective topic across four application domains: bioinformatics, breeding, biomaterial synthesis, and cellulose‑processing enzyme design.
You will develop hybrid quantum‑classical algorithms to tackle domain‑specific, computationally demanding problems. Methods will be designed for near‑term (NISQ‑era) deployment, with models evaluated for expressivity, training stability, scalability, and resource requirements on representative problem sizes, and systematically benchmarked against fully classical baselines. In parallel, medium‑ to long‑term quantum algorithms will be explored to assess quantum readiness and to establish innovative methodologies relevant to each application field. The exact research topics can be tailored to your interests within the scope of our current projects.
Your goal is to produce world‑class research results, in collaboration with other group members in the lively environment of the MQS group, and to publish them in high‑impact journals.
Deadline : 31.8.2026
About Aalto University, Finland –Official Website
Aalto University is a university located in Espoo, Finland. It was established in 2010 as a merger of three major Finnish universities: the Helsinki University of Technology (established 1849), the Helsinki School of Economics (established 1904), and the University of Art and Design Helsinki (established 1871). The close collaboration between the scientific, business and arts communities is intended to foster multi-disciplinary education and research. The Finnish government, in 2010, set out to create a university that fosters innovation, merging the three institutions into one.
The university is composed of six schools with close to 17,500 students and 4,000 staff members, making it Finland’s second largest university. The main campus of Aalto University is located in Otaniemi, Espoo. Aalto University Executive Education operates in the district of Töölö, Helsinki. In addition to the Greater Helsinki area, the university also operates its Bachelor’s Programme in International Business in Mikkeli and the Metsähovi Radio Observatory in Kirkkonummi.
Aalto University’s operations showcase Finland’s experiment in higher education. The Aalto Design Factory, Aalto Ventures Program and Aalto Entrepreneurship Society (Aaltoes), among others, drive the university’s mission for a radical shift towards multidisciplinary learning and have contributed substantially to the emergence of Helsinki as a hotbed for startups.Aaltoes is Europe’s largest and most active student run entrepreneurship community that has founded major concepts such as the Startup Sauna accelerator program and the Slush startup event.
