PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Biology
Biology is the broad subject about all living things. It encompasses everything from processes at the molecular and cellular level to global processes at ecosystem level. The subject is divided into a range of sub-disciplines and specialisations. The PhD programme at the Department of Biology includes many of these specialisations, from molecular biology to applied ecology, from viruses and individual cells to evolutionary biology and global biodiversity. Taking on research studies at the Department of Biology generally means focusing on a delimited part of the research area of biology and may include field studies, experiments, theoretical studies, or a combination of these.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Biology
The PhD candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team at Lund University (7 PIs and 4 new PhD students) who over the next 6 years will collaborate to investigate the sublethal effects of commonly used pesticides in different species of insects. The project is highly interdisciplinary, involving research in fields such as analytical chemistry, genetics, metabolomics, ecology, and physiology, including collaborative laboratory, field and semi-field studies. Chemical insecticides play an integral role in controlling agricultural pests, however, their sublethal consequences for non-target species are often overlooked. Most of these pesticides are neurotoxins, yet how they affect the brain and its function in diverse insect species is poorly understood.

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral student in Transformative innovation – with focus on introganisational business models for sustainable development
Today’s companies work within supply chains and networks to ensure resources, be competitive and dynamic. Some researchers believe that today’s competition does not take place between companies but between supply chains. In business development, however, a lot happens within the established company boundaries, not least when it comes to sustainable development. The concept of business models and the various models and tools, such as Business model canvas, are primarely focused on the individual organization. A recent study on sustainable business development clarified the individual perspective and the fact that business development on the inter-organizational level was non-existent. The companies described their various investments, but they were all within the boundaries of their own company and there was a lack of strategic consensus in the supply chain. New forms of collaboration are necessary to accelerate the transition to sustainable development, a key to this is cooperation and new forms of this, where the business model in the future must be more interorganizational to enable both economic, environmental and social sustainability.

Linking effects on individual behaviour to changes on population and community level metrics for integration into ERAs (CHRONIC). Low-level chronic exposure to emerging pollutants, such as pharmaceuticals, may have profound effects on functional traits like behaviour. Despite their potential influence on population and community dynamics, effects on functional traits are rarely acknowledged in environmental risk assessments despite their potential importance. Using aquatic invertebrates as model organisms and metals and pharmaceuticals as model chemical stressors,

PhD position summary/title: Doctoral students in computer science
At the heart of computational complexity theory is the quest to understand the nature of efficient computation. What makes a problem computationally hard or easy? How can we show that every algorithm that solves a certain problem must necessarily consume a large amount of resources (such as time or memory, say)? The study of the potential and limits of efficient computation is about foundational, mathematical, research, but research results in computational complexity theory have had major impact in other areas of computer science and other scientific disciplines, and have given rise to some of the most important open problems in modern mathematics.

About Lund University, Scania, Sweden – Official Website
Lund University is a prestigious university in Sweden and one of northern Europe’s oldest universities. The university is located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. It traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund. After Sweden won Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the university was officially founded in 1666 on the location of the old studium generale next to Lund Cathedral.
Lund University has nine faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with 40,000 students in 270 different programmes and 1,300 freestanding courses. The university has some 600 partner universities in nearly 70 countries and it belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network. Lund University is consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.
Two major facilities for materials research are in Lund University: MAX IV, a synchrotron radiation laboratory – inaugurated in June 2016, and European Spallation Source (ESS), a new European facility that will provide up to 100 times brighter neutron beams than existing facilities today, to be opened in 2023.
The university centers on the Lundagård park adjacent to the Lund Cathedral, with various departments spread in different locations in town, but mostly concentrated in a belt stretching north from the park connecting to the university hospital area and continuing out to the northeastern periphery of the town, where one finds the large campus of the Faculty of Engineering.
